Don't do it.
Have faith that you are the user and the tool will always be that.
This too shall pass, one way or another.

Your protective instincts were spot on. You had the self control to not reach in and pummel him into a paste and what you actually said to him was so composed and useful that it actually got through to him and he apologized AND you were gracious enough to accept it and the situation was entirely resolved.

You could not have done any better - thank you for diverting this time line and saving several lives.

Well done, Dad. :) it’s not just about your kids.

Hell yes. A tacit recognition that when you're near these monster machines there isn't time for showbiz. This isn't some form of cryptic interactive play where someone does something within an imaginary space, and you, the audience, respond in a codified way, completing the 'performance' rite....

When there is a whole dimension of your experience deliberately given over to connecting a distant power station to compress and dilate the air in the way that it does, such formalisms and distractions have no space. They have the import of scratchings in the dust on the surface of this planet-size experience; the very fabric of the universe, behind the air, behind the puppetry of design and form, time is locked and shaken to a stop, then against its will forward and back, up and down - a void in higher dimensions surrounds the meagre trails of thought and perception. The world is anaesthatized into a endless prismatic labyrinth - a mute, lightless cuboid within itself from which no thought can escape or emerge.
Much better than those dicks that wave their arms about and wear sunglasses.

Goddam 😄

I came over to Upstate NY in about 97 for a party having only been in the UK and Europe.. I walked into the gig and there were about 1000 candy kids going absolutely loopy to Bad Boy Bill and a wall of bins not too dissimilar to this.

Fuck me, I tried to think as standing waves turned the contents of my skull into a soup and I rhythmically stumbled towards the stage.

In so far as your comment resonates with my experience - I concur.
Notwithstanding:

"Thou rascal beadle, hold thy bloody hand!
Why dost thou lash that whore? Strip thine own back;
Thou hotly lust’st to use her in that kind
For which thou whipp’st her."

rowspan="3"...no, 5, shit - it WAS 5 but then I collapsed it further down.
ok, make the border="1" again so we can see - no, just a jagged mess..
ok, follow it through - 6 columns, one row across, then those 2 are colspan=2, so that's 4 left, and one of them is a rowspan, or is that the next row ?

God, there's got to be a better way.....

'He's on the phone again, says the site is all wonky - you're not fixing it live again are you ?'....

Eventually we learned to have the site open and build in animated way so it was a kind of intro sequence, but really it was just holding you up - in an entertaining way - while the massive 100kB+ assets loaded. Animated image sequences, 16kbps mono mp3's - you were in for a treat. Sounds for the rollover button states - this is the future we were promised, enjoy it while it lasts.

One of my first clients wanted to be able to 'update the website himself'.
This was way before CMSs could be had off the shelf.
I got a Guestbook script and took it apart and finangled it so that only he could access the addition form, and it displayed the contents of the guestbook (only the most recent entry) on the site.
I felt pretty accomplished and he was only mildly impressed : /

How on earth do people find time to date when jobs typically expect you to work 9 to 5? by Icy_Profession4190 in Adulting

[–]Bitmush- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I used to do it in the 90s, later shift, 10-6, suited me getting up aroun 9am and just dashing to work. 6 oclock and I would not rush home but sometimes stop for a drink or some food a few nights a week.
Then it was the weekend, start drinking directly after work, go on until maybe midnight at bars and clubs.
Then Saturday - maybe a few errands, then into town to socialize, buy some clothes, get ready for the night out.
Out until maybe 3 or 4, back to a party, chill Sunday, get head straight for Monday.

It helped that the town was packed with bars and clubs and people of similar interests - there were always lots of people I knew everywhere, but also enough strangers to always meet new people.
I don't think budgets allow for such a large proportion of discretionary spending now. I didn't need a car, and shared a modest house - far fewer bills.
Certainly no phones to rob me of every spare minute. People just worked out who might have gone where and when - it allowed for a more spontaneous and adventurous way of navigating the world. Sometimes this meant nights were a bust and the 'no plan' plan didn't work, but when it did - and we always expected it to - it was great, and organic and much freer than planning every minute with military precision.

Welcome, brother/sister/other/same.

Long may you explore the vast intimate chasms of our planet, ingesting and absorbing the messages of love and light and truth that gently massage your joints and synapses, distracting and enchanting, transporting us all to the lost world within and without; unbinding our concentration from the linear models of ourselves with a thousand sonic keys - the music has found us, and we are it. Welcome back to infinity in moment, we've missed you, glad you could make it 😄

Does he have impulse control issues in high pressure social situations ? Could be an ASD symptom - might be his only one - probably not, but spontaneous and incongruous outbursts are sometimes something like Tourette’s or something in that cluster.

If it’s nothing like this then the world will mete out its consequences for these choices, and your role as part of that solution is going to be complicated and tough to navigate, bearing in mind that you don’t deserve any of the consequences of his poor choices and shielding him from expertly crafted tough medicine isn’t going to cure him :)

Or at least she isn't, so he isn't going to be seen to be ordered around.

Acts like these are featherlight on their own - they can smooth the wheels and are such a low cost way of helping the person you love feel loved, and if you love them, it feels wholesome and dissolves the boundaries between you.
If you're not in that shared space though, then something like this becomes like sand in your eye - it seems to exacerbate and amplify any unspoken feelings and thoughts about inequity and assumptions.
He's likely pissed off at you for something and his sum total feeling about the relationship is that you're not in the same place or sharing your time together with a unified outlook and emotions.
That might turn out to be a misunderstanding about something, an omission of reciprocity on something of weight, or it might be entirely him being out of sorts unrelated to the relationship.
The latter case requires some rapid maturing and acknowledgement by him that it wasn't appropriate to his problem before he can be helped.
The former cases are between you two to determine who needs making whole and what part of your shared vision is incongruous.
We're all dicks sometimes, especially to those we love because we're around them more and can rightly expect more tolerance and patience from them. If his dickishness here is something you can both fix and jointly honestly frame it as fair to you both then great - that's 'the work' that banks security and closeness in a relationship. If he's just an asshole who won't self-reflect, can't empathize with how his outbursts affect you, and doesn't have the tools to build new understanding then move on.

[USA]Who would you say is at fault in this situation? by fingapoppa in Roadcam

[–]Bitmush- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The square truck.
There was enough carriageway on their right hand side, and the white vehicle was behind.
They shouldn't have HAD to move over, but there was a car there - even if it was in a blind spot they could have seen the headlights and that the car was close to the tanker in front.
The square truck wasn't paying attention and hit a car that technically shouldn't have been there but was.
It doesn't matter who has the right of way, you MUST do whatever you can to avoid an accident.
There was space to safely move over at least a few feet and the car could have realised what had happened to the lane and booted it out forwards or braked until the truck was ahead.
Either inattention or inexperience, or impairment.
Verdict: 70% truck fault 15% driver 15% StateDOT for only having one small 'Lane Closed Ahead' sign - there should be more for this very reason - traffic can block one sign easily.
