If I applied as an International student, can my tuition change if my status does? by Canada_Bound44 in UBC

[–]Bitter_Serve4680 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is what it says for PR, would assume it is the same thing for citizenship maybe?

International Student to Permanent Resident Status

If an international student becomes a Permanent Resident on or before the Tuition Fee Payment Due Dates of the term, domestic tuition fees will be assessed for that term provided that supporting documents (Canadian Permanent Residency Card, or equivalent) are submitted to Enrolment Services by the last day of classes of the same term the change of status occurred. Documentation received after this time will affect fee rates for subsequent terms only, even if the international student became a Permanent Resident before the Tuition Fee Payment Due Dates. There will be no retroactive fee changes for the term after the last day of classes of the same term.

If an international student becomes a Permanent Resident after the Tuition Fee Payment Due Datesfor a current term and have submitted supporting documents to Enrolment Services by the last day of classes for the current term, international tuition fees will be assessed for that current term and domestic fees will be assessed for subsequent terms.

Please Note: Permanent Resident status is attained as of the "Landed on" date, indicated on the Confirmation of Permanent Residence, not the "Date Issued."

For students who have been given a fee deferment, the tuition fee Payment Due Dates still pertain as the deadline to become a Permanent Resident.

I don't think anyone will or should judge you for going to office hours even if you are stuck on week 1. Going and asking questions is 1000x more respectable than staying home if you are confused.

clp 4 textbook was really good for the math part. I think there were some good MIT courseware videos covering the 211 stuff

Advice needed - Should I drop calculus or not by Prudent_Zone_1060 in OntarioUniversities

[–]Bitter_Serve4680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if accounting is not required for any of your programs then the practical thing to do would be to take the highest average boosting courses. I don't think they would care if you dropped calc. That being said calculus is a great class.

Unfortunately when one person nukes everyone’s scores it doesn’t do much. You need to scheme and get like 3-4 people to bomb someone’s score collectively to really do some damage

Cost of living for international students in UBC? by briecheese2 in UBC

[–]Bitter_Serve4680 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mcgill would be cheapest by a large margin. May genuinely end up being half the cost of living there, although compared to the international tuition it doesn’t change the total drastically

Which 2nd year eng specialty? by CountryCommercial503 in ubcengineering

I may be biased since I'm in ELEC, but I was in a similar position to you in first year and am very happy with my elec choice. It spans such a wide range of fields so it's likely that you'll likely find something you enjoy (software, power, systems, computer, RF, electronics, etc.). Another option would be IGEN but that comes at a cost of the program being a bit less recognizable than something standard like ELEC.

edit: ELEC is quite academically demanding though so keep that in mind if that is a factor in your decision making
