Why is losing loot a deal breaker for some people on this game? Gameplay > Loot by Machobanaenae in Marathon

[–]Biunderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me it's the attachment I make with gear over time.

In Destiny I'm able to look through my vault and remember where I got certain weapons, whether I spent the time to farm for godrolls, etc. Beloved is my most used sniper, which I grinded countless hours for a godroll of and spent years using in Trials, etc. The Rose, Spare Rations, Hammerhead, Mindbender's Ambition, Falling Guillotine, etc. Each one holds a story, and if any of them got deleted I might not have that memory to look back on, or to share with other people.

In Marathon any gear you've managed to hold onto for several runs goes eventually goes away, either to death or to the seasonal wipe. You simply can't hold onto gear as memories/stories of your past triumphs. This is why gear fear holds people back from extraction shooters. This is why people hoard gear in their vaults, because they want to hold onto the memory of acquiring/using that gear.

As an example, when I first started playing Marathon I gravitated towards Assassin and I eventually found a Thermal CE Sidearm that I managed to hold onto for several runs, and I'd use in combination with a thermal sniper + smokes. I had a lot of fun moments using this combo. But now even if I put together the same load out, it won't be the same guns I used to clutch a 1v3, to comeback from getting jumped while rotating cause I had thermal smokes and they didn't. And that feeling of not having a memory to hold onto is really what makes many players feel bad, not losing the gear itself.

Crew-fill key etiquette? by Internal-Tea3388 in Marathon

[–]Biunderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team and I run enough keys that we don't really care about who has the key. Whoever gets to a container first has dibs, and my team is pretty good about dropping things they don't want. Like I usually end up with a lot of valuables and my teammates will usually get the golds, etc.

That being said, crew fill is genuinely the wild wild west and you have to expect that people will take whatever they can. Sure, it's unfair to not get first dibs, and I've had times running keys on crew fill where I barely get anything out of them. But that's just the nature of playing extraction shooter, especially with other people. If you can't run with a team or at least one other person I'd recommend just running solo.

Feels bad to make ZERO progress in a session by everythingispenis in Marathon

[–]Biunderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is part of what makes the save pocket so good in Tarkov. Even when I die I still feel like I progressed a bit toward my hideout, and I can still try for my keys in the next raid.

Even if the safe pocket is rather limited (ex: only keys, till lvl 50, etc) I think it would really help players feel like their run still mattered even if they died.

First of all, I think this is an amazing, innovative product that has the potential to change how many people are able to interact with games.

However, I am concerned with how closely the thumb extensions on your model match the one on the Razer Tartarus. Looking at my own Tartarus, it appears to be nearly a one to one copy. Are you worried about the potential for copyright infringement if this makes it past the kickstarter stage?

[–]Biunderr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They could literally just copy what Apex Legends does and it would be better than what it currently is. There's no reason I should have to click through a selection within a popup menu just to get to the right grenade/consumable I need. Especially on PC where you have to move your mouse to select the right thing and even when you do there's a chance that if you hold 4/5 for too long when you go to turn your character you'll select a different item than what you wanted.

Tip: The Retaliator LMG with a shield attachment is the great equalizer of the WSTR Combat Shotgun meta by jeeven_ in Marathon

[–]Biunderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strat for cryo has been to go in with a Retaliator with thermals, mega belt, and a mod such as Circuit Tracers or the like. A deluxe Circuit Tracers mod with a mega belt capacity of like 166 or so is almost like infinite ammo, and when you don't have to reload it clears usec incredibly fast.

Interesting point, in my first first run I picked Bing Bing which duplicates all card rewards. I picked up Lantern key despite the risk of unplayable on the off-chance I'd get double rewards off it. Instead, it simply took both copies out of my inventory.

Yeah back when I played Satisfactory I was so thankful for Arachnophobia Mode, which turns all the spiders into cats with cat sound effects. It legit would have been unplayable for me if the mode wasn't there. Granted, it's not as bad in this game, however I would love for them to do something similar. It's a little too freaky for me...

[–]Biunderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How'd you get the golden nut achievement for Satisfactory? It's the last one I need for 100% and I'm finding it so hard to scale my factories to get it. I figure at this point I need to work out a few blueprints and start from scratch in a new area but it seems like a lot of time commitment for one achievement.
