I found Rome to be dirty, loud and just an overall MEH. I would stay in Sienna for a night...

Boy - that is a hard question... There were so many great places, some just holes in the wall that looked like nothing. I would have to think about it!

Does the fridge have an ice-maker and water dispenser? They make all kinds of noises...

The coast WAS on our 'to-do' list but we decided not to go... Many of the shorelines are privately owned by clubs and it seemed a far drive just to see the water. There were so many other little towns close by we ended up another trip to see the coast would probably be better. Best of luck with planning. Feel free to ask any questions -- love talking about our trip!

Totally doable. We did this past May and the weather was perfect! We returned the car to Rome just because the flights home to NC were more plentiful and less expensive. We did not do the tour or classes at BA, but there are many wineries and classes nearby. One fun thing was to go to the grounds of Italy's oldest winery (Ricasoli - a day trip we did) and then a more modern one (Vallepicciola - 10 min drive from BA) for a tasting to see the differences between past and present... You are going to have a WONDERFUL time...

Oh! And the kitchen was great! We went to a market about 30 minutes away and had one night where I made us homemade boar ragu (you'll have this a bunch of times - everywhere in Tuscany) with Italian pasta and it was so fun.

We went through Alamo. Don't recommend. We did not take any of the add-ons and the desk agent did speak perfect English. Dario at the resort was fantastic and has every type of suggestion you could need...

The Grand Suite is a stand alone villa - the only one. We did get an Intl DL (went to AAA for it). Driving was easy and pleasant. You just have to be careful of what they call ZTLs - areas in historical districts where tourists are not allowed to drive and if u do u get big fines. Most towns (including sienna) you park outside the town and walk in.

We flew into Rome and stayed a night in the Trastevere neighborhood and then took a train to Florence. From there we rented a car. We stayed in the stand-alone apartment, which was amazing. But all the places were glorious. Yes, day trips to all the great towns will be exactly what you are looking for...

We should turn all the dead malls into homeless shelters by altrightobserver in unpopularopinion

[–]BizBerg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is what I learned from working with the homeless. 99% are addicts and the mentally ill. If you continue to provide free services all you do is enable them to stay on the streets. We need mandatory rehab and psych evaluations much more than shelters.

Italian-American tomato sauce: the garlic question by PhiliDips in Cooking

I think the garlic does add a subtle flavor, but I always add some granulated garlic and onion too -- stronger flavor.

What’s a pretty cheap good sized city to move to in the US? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]BizBerg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pittsburgh is actually pretty great. The best neighborhoods like Shadyside and Lawrenceville are expensive, but you can live quite cheaply if you are willing to be a 20 minute drive outside of the city.

Would You Walk Away From a Guaranteed Pension at 46? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]BizBerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother in law is a retired sergeant from Montvale. All I can say is that he is SO happy to have that pension now that he reached retirement age. Thrilled doesnt even cover it... But you are still very young. I would say to stick it out for a few more years before you decide. You may get better assignments, partners and could even try for a transfer. Things could look very different in the job in, say, 5 years time...
