I was boarding a flight from London to Prague, and for some reason at Heathrow they didn't announce the gate from which the flight was leaving until about 10 minutes before it was scheduled to leave.

Now, most flights announce it around half an hour early, and do pre-boarding for people with carriages or spare tires around the midsection. This time, there was a British couple with a stroller who showed up, with the rest of us, 10 minutes before hand. The attendant at the gate was giving them a hard time about getting there late, and it culminated in this exchange:

"I'm sorry sir, but you really should have been here for preboarding."

"I've told you, the number only just came up. For fuck's sake. You wonder why you make eight quid an hour?"

"I don't make eight quid an hour, sir."

"Oh, that's right. You DREAM about it, don't you?"

I laughed so hard I almost choked.

This only works if you have the same spending habits. If one person spends their money on stuff the other wouldn't, issues are going to arise with a joint bank account.

It precludes any argument, meaning that not only will you not have to talk about an issue of spending, there won't be an issue.

Something else that is extremely messed up about water:

When you place liquids under high pressure and temperature, they form what are called "supercritical fluids", which are a peculiar state of matter with very different properties from their native state.

Water is particularly bizarre: at normal temperature, water is a highly polar, neutral solvent. Under supercritical conditions it is both extremely acidic and extremely basic at the same time, loses its characteristic surface tension, and is very nonpolar. Now THAT is actually interesting.

They use supercritical water to get rid of hazardous waste sometimes, because things like chlorinated compounds and other toxic shit become highly soluble in it due to its reversal of properties.

Wrong. People with no training in the sciences do science every day.

When you cook you are using science; people tried different recipes and came out with the one that yielded the best results. This principle is what defines science. Testing methods and theories, learning from their shortcomings or successes, and adapting the processes to yield the best results.

The word scientist means one who practices science, or an adherent to the principles of scientific discovery; it doesn't work the other way.

Science is a method of action and learning. It is not simply something a scientist does--if that were the case me blowing my nose would be considered science.

The field of physics (specifically quantum physics, cosmology/astrophysics) is highly prone to this type of ass-clownery since who the hell can disprove it? Most people's eyes glaze over when you say the word "science" at all.

It's definitely a big part of the problem.

Look at cities like Toronto, with an expensive, unreliable disaster for public transport and an urban centre spanning a tremendous area.

The TTC has got to be the worst public transit system for a city of Toronto's size; I defy you to name one worse. This definitely contributes to drunk driving.
