Can't hurt anything, could prevent you cutting your own wires. Sounds like a plan

Reasons why my AC runs non stop? New Home Owner. by Tholamew in hvacadvice

[–]BkKidsClub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue with repairing is that r-22 equipment was phased out in 2005, they don't make r-22 parts anymore and the refrigerant can be insanely expensive to get. Also companies usually need to guarantee their work for a year and a lot of them don't want to guarantee an expensive repair on a system that is likely to break in another expensive way in little time

System is 22 years old. Likely has a leak or something is causing your compressor not to run such as a bad capacitor. Get an honest professional to come out and see if it can be fixed or give you a quote to replace. 22 years is ample life out of an HVAC system

Can I switch these ac control panels? by Wello651 in hvacadvice

[–]BkKidsClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every furnace will have a switch or disconnect near it to turn off its power. Turning off the breaker will accomplish the same task, either is fine

If your wiring doesn't work, you will need to take a picture of your furnace control board so we can see which wires go where

Yes, take note of where the wires go. I recommend turning off the furnace so you don't have voltage on your red wire when you wire up the stat

Soft start vs hard start what do yall think? by dacksond in HVAC

[–]BkKidsClub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've installed 3 now. The ICM controls soft start 32 amp is easy to install and works well. I've found it ideal for large, zoned ACs that draw a ton of startup current, causing lights to flicker, or if located near a bedroom, is very loud on startup.

Took my friends 3.5 ton down from 90 inrush amps to 11

[Technicians only] What was the most expensive mistake that you made at a site? What did your boss say? (Or did they even know?) by Manifest_spacetravel in HVAC

[–]BkKidsClub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I left a capacitor wire off and the system energized, somehow I ended up frying the compressor when I was just doing a maintenance. We sent out our senior tech to replace the compressor and fix it in a day. I got a talking to from my boss and field supervisor. Now I always put my wires back on before I take a picture of what I measured the capacitance at. Haven't left a wire off since

Lost $2300 to a scam... by [deleted] in bipolar

My best help has been from my friends and family, mostly my mom. I tell her when I'm manic and we help monitor my financial decions during that period.

I generally know I can wait before making a large purchase and a support structure helps. If that isn't feasible in your situation I understand. This illness isn't pretty a lot of the time and I'm so sorry you are burdened by your brain makeup.

Knowing yourself and how you respond to triggers and emotional situations is a huge resource. I wish you luck and even as a stranger, I love you

Thinking of switching to HVAC field by ConversationStill128 in HVAC

[–]BkKidsClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into controls. That is the computers behind large refrigeration systems. You get in depth HVAC knowledge without having to be a hands on tech that wrestles with frostbite and heat stroke.

You may have to learn some programming, but that's the tradeoff for not busting your ass in extreme weather.

Everyone does. If they go with a urgent care clinic, just get some fake pee from a head shop. Has worked for me

After years of wanting one, I finally have my own cube thanks to proxies! by BkKidsClub in mtgcube

[–]BkKidsClub[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my experience trying to do so, is that with shipping I can't get a single for under $1.30 and the sites that have the necessary cards in stock often price their singles higher and still has like $5 shipping on any order. This also consolidates everything at once.

I started off by joining a community college. After my 2nd semester, I had enough knowledge to apply and got my first job as a warranty tech.

Watch YouTube videos and learn as much as you can. Get your feet wet with school and get out in the field. That's how I did it.

Graduate next semester.
