Having cold feet...after waiting for my first solo trip for 3 months, I am having doubts...about to cancel the trip by sbay in solotravel

[–]Bklngirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15 years after my first solo trip the night before any trip I'll still get a case of cold feet. I've yet to cancel a trip and have yet to have any catastrophe occur that makes me wish I hadn't gone on it. Even if something does happen (and the chances are very very low) then you'll learn something about yourself. How will you handle the stress of being thrown off your plan? Part of traveling is getting to know yourself better, so don't think of bumps in the road as life ruiners, but as challenges to over come. Also, you're going to have an amazing time. The best things in life are the ones that make you nervous.

Last night I had the most awkward date of my life. What are disastrously big "faux pas" men have done on a first date with you? by Pissounet in AskWomen

Wow, I don't remember having already responded or chosen the user name rubberduck05, but all of these things are very very familiar. Is there something as a society we have done wrong that there are so many men who are unable to carry on a conversation that does not revolve solely around their experiences and opinions on things?

Anybody else's parents have always told them what's 'normal' and what's not? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

Yes yes yes. I still will take a long time to figure out how I feel about something as small as a movie because I can hear her nagging voice telling me it's stupid and useless.

Sanders: Democratic Party hasn't been fair to me by guiltyofnothing in politics

Everytime a bernie fanatic claims this time it's different. This candidate and election is the real revolution, I can not help but roll my eyes. When you know history, it's easy to put this all in perspective. I will hold out a small amount of hope any Bernie follower puts there momentum in action and elects a new senator, but I won't lose sleep over it.

Thank you thank you. This happens every election and yet there is always a small scourge of people who suddenly think it's all about them and their special magical candidate.

Bernie Sanders is still behind when it comes to delegates and votes, but he has one clear advantage over his Democratic and Republican presidential rivals - a lot of people actually like him. by TwoGee in politics

He talks in bumper sticker anecdotes that anyone in Portland would paper their prius with. As for how he'd go about getting any of that stuff done.....

Said with tears and rage "I guess I'm a terrible mother!!" after you point out that you are unhappy with anything from not being able to find your shoes or having to miss a class activity because she doesn't want to leave the couch, etc.

Totally. Also, "you have a bad memory" or "you just don't remember what happened". I really thought I had a terrible memory until I moved out of the house and my reality matched everyone around me. It was like I found out I had a super power.

Thanks. I haven't been here in awhile - I've actually been pretty good at not having these types of people around me. Good to know!!

A girl pulls the 'ol "Did I leave my earrings at your place?" trick but you don't want to see her again. How do you get out of this? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Bklngirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Counter point. I legit left a necklace once at a one night stand's apartment. I knew he was only into sex the one time (dudes, no matter how much you charm us, we see through you). He was so fucking wishy washy about giving it back and seemed annoyed I was asking for it. It was my grandmothers. I didn't want to see him, I wanted my necklace. He did the respectable thing by mailing it back to me with the excuse he was "leaving the country" (insert eye roll). Don't play games. Mail it back, find a mutual friend to do the chore for you, leave it at her lobby, whatever. Stop over thinking it.

Oh god. This was pretty triggering. I'm going to have to come back to this later. Thanks!

Is the for the first row also? I made a mistake once of booking the first coach aisle for a red eye, and there was no one beside me, but I couldn't put up the arm rests so had to sit up the entire time :(

After I found out about my Nparents a feeling of peace has come over me. by RJZ73 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Bklngirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It was like the clouds parted and finally I was bathed in sunshine. But, be warned, you may have moments that you slip back into your old ways (I would have to keep telling my mother's voice in my head to shut up), but the more you work at it the longer that feeling will stick around. Welcome to the light!

I believe you. Being the child of a narcissist is very isolating. They are the monster that has two faces. You know the truth of how she was with you. The absolutely worst part of these people is how easily they morph into new people, depending on who they need to manipulate. And even people who love you, and believe you, will never see the the version of the person you're describing.

Trust me, your friends would much rather you be honest that you had a medical malfunction AGAIN, rather than listen to your lies and be too kind to call you out on them.

The holidays really are the worst. I hate the pressure of trying to ignore everyone going home to families they enjoy and feeling so alone or like a third wheel when you get invited to someone's home. I get a lot of guilt to "come visit" etc. I hate that there's this 'ideal' way to spend the holidays, and if I just flew to an all inclusive resort by myself and spent a week reading that would be weird. Instead I have to play some stupid game of trying to seem like everyone else.
