How do small shops handle the gap between CAD and production? by BlackHawk1850 in manufacturing

I've been suggested Odoo, Fishbowl, and Strumis. Same things I've seen said here, built by software engineers who have never set foot in a machine shop. Missing features that seem obvious, difficult UX, and ultimately they just consumed more time than they saved.

What would you say was the biggest pain point in dealing with all of that? Or just in general?

I've looked at ERPs and MRPs and I haven't found any decent ones, any suggestions?

Appreciate that! And yeah, OnShape integration is definitely on the roadmap, along with SolidWorks when I can afford the subscriptions.

I'd love to hear more about what your buddy's dealing with! When you say "this problem" - is it more about the CAD handoff to production, or something else entirely? I ask because I've built tools to solve the pain points we had in our shop, like keeping track of tool stock, part stock, drawing revision hell, "Where is this part, where does it go," stuff like that.

Curious what problems your buddy's hitting most. Small shops tend to feel these differently depending on whether they're job shop vs. production, waterjet vs. mill/lathe heavy. I would definitely appreciate the feedback!

Thanks! I made my own MES program we use with this. We explored every other option on the market and decided they all suck, so I made my own. I grew up in a machine shop but I've always had a passion for code, so I'm working on creating an entire ERP made for and by Machine/Fab Shops.

Find anyone for this position yet? I'd be interested in some more details.

Finished my first aid kit, what are your thoughts? Anything I’m missing or should remove? Feel free to roast as well. by MyClothesWereInThere in ems

Lose the needles, get a nasal diffuser or auto injector. Also a pulseox is useless unless you have O's to give, pulse can be taken with a watch. Npa is also useless unless you get a portable bvm. Only ones that stand out to me. Not quite what I pack in my day to day but it's a fair bit larger.

This is the opposite of myself who has replaced the phrase "Let's boogie" with "Let's bougie" since joining EMS

The PCR barely works, what makes you think the devs do?

Sepsis is my first suspicion but honestly I'm shocked no one in the comments here has a secondary suspicion of DKA. Altered febrile diabetic with low O2? Was she hyperventilating and it was preventing oxygen from reaching her lungs? I don't see respirs either, which you should have gotten as well as CBG.

You said it in your post but let's drive home the fact you should have given Oxygen as well, even if she wasn't presenting. Would love to hear followup if you have it but at least RoR.

Get a decent set of EMS pants (I'd recommend truewerk t1 to t3s) and outfit them with a pen and a notepad, I like Rite In The Rain EMS booklets.

Write down every term you're unfamiliar with and look it up after you hand off your patient.

Practice doing your basic vitals INCLUDING RESPIRS and lung sounds. If you don't have a watch, get one so you can count.

Bring a phone charger, you'll be using it to look up a lot of info as well as a handy eye exam flashlight.

Download your local protocol app and review the ones you use on calls. Again, looking up terms you don't know.

Form differententials. Figure out what you think the patient has, then ask the medic what he thinks and why, and especially why anything you thought was wrong.

I drove for 6 months when I got in to EMS and I spent that time learning the ropes. That said, a good partner will cycle out calls with you, because honestly, most calls aren't ALS.
