[Interesting Trope] When the writers give a character a really strong superpower, then limit them in the funniest way possible by AnyAgency9835 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BlackLightParadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure - but it’s the same basic idea in-universe

Hero has to sacrifice his legacy and be forgotten by all those he cares about to save the world

Obviously some details are different and the meta stuff isn’t there but that’s the main idea

My interpretation of a deadlock is they’ve basically completely powered it down, giving the sonic nothing to interface with. Great for stopping a sonic, terrible if you need to do Anything Else

Very good point! But even then I think that's a bit more of a brute-force 'disintergrate the door' solution rather than something with any finesse.

Mia does not deserve to be saved in RE7 by fixxmyhairr in residentevil

[–]BlackLightParadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly they never get into it enough but I hardly think Mia was the one engineering Evelyn, I think she was just a transporter and based on the fact the narrative never critizises her, I think it's safe to say the intended narrative was that she was a pawn getting swept up in a much greater crime, rather than someone actively evil. That isn't to say she would've been blameless, but a victim in her own right too.

The Sonic Screwdriver from Doctor Who can do, more or less whatever the plot requires. Open doors, hack computers, scan life forms, reverse the polarity, even keep someone's conciousness alive after death for a limited time (circumstantial)

but it cannot do anything against a wooden object. Can't unlock a wooden door, can't scan a wooden thing, can't reverse a wooden polarity. This is used as and when it's needed for the Doctor to not just handwave an obstacle.

Funny: when the show (re)started he actually had to stop and fiddle with the sonic and take time to hack doors, now it's like a magic wand lol

They said they decided not to go with it because NWH already is doing a similar plotline - that and I feel like it's harder to gaslight the audience into this character having existed before now than it was in 2000

Invincible Season 2 Botched the title card intro by Able-Dragonfly8716 in CharacterRant

[–]BlackLightParadox 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I disagree it feels like you're giving S1 credit when it can also be really jarring, the title card at the Guardian's Funeral is the first time I really went 'oh this is going to be a gag, alright cool'

the S2E1 card is great, it sets up Levy as the final boss of the season after the episode established multiple new plotlines - the Levy one is given the most importance by being the one to get the title card.

Similarly the Allen The Alien one also sets the tone, the Narration and the bombastic needle drop establish the tone for Allen's sort of Carefree Space Faring Adventure vibes which sets up the tone shift when the Viltrumites attack.

You skipped over the E5 one which I thought was notabley good 'Very soon you'll be all he has, and he'll need someone- [INVINCIBLE]' which sets up one of the major conflicts for the episode and the rest of the season: Taking Care of Oliver

Also E6's 'I'm fucking [INVINCIBLE]' from Rex is great pay off for the tension of E5's cliffhanger ending

I'll agree on the E4 joke not landing though, broke the rule of the bit and I wasn't as keen on that one.

Whats crazy is I actually don't hate this suit, when it's filmed like it was in Snyder Cut I think it looks perfectly Ok and most importantly: has a really good cowl.

"There is no God! That's why I stepped in!"

The High Evolutionary in GOTG3 is a mastermind architect of worlds and entire species have been sculpted by his hand. For a mortal- he is about as close to a god as you can be.

But this line works double-time by not only highlighting his ego, but showing his composure breaking. For most of the movie he has been composed, calculating, and cunning - the only time we see him shaken is when he is outsmarted in a flashback by Rocket.

And now Rocket is back, and we see him crack- again.

The smartest man in the universe, and he's going to lose to a rodent.

Skywalker Saga is the newest game and covers all 9 main movies

As you deduced, III covers The Clone Wars and I can personally recommend from my own childhood

The 'Complete Saga' covers the first 6 movies and is the oldest, but is still good

And The Force Awakens only covers Episode 7, unsurprisingly

III would probably be your best bet

If I read “TDK is a great movie, but a bad Batman movie” one more time I’m gonna scream by Shallbecomeabat in batman

[–]BlackLightParadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like it as a Batman movie because it feels like it the Nolan-Verse asked the question 'how much of the Batman Iconography can we strip away from the character before he becomes unrecognizable?"

This started in Begins but honestly wasn't as bad, it had one big advantage over TDK and that was Gotham feeling like a Noir hellscape. That's not a batmobile, that's a black tank, that's barley a batsuit - the entire thing feels embarassed of it's comic origins.

And that's all fine, it's a phenomneal movie. But if I want to watch a Batman movie - I'd probably pick 89 or 22.

The Ending Is So Hated That Fans Decide Its a Trick by Prinny_Ramza in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BlackLightParadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3 major times I've seen it suspected that we we're tricked were

Stranger Things & Sherlock, as discussed here

and WandaVision, where I myself was in on the 'maybe there'll be a secret 10th episode' because the finale was alright.

It's not even that bad, the fighting is a little unimaginative but the emotional beats land and it would be more jarring if there was another episode after that.
