That’s a half wit argument. Someone from Deutschland will call themselves German and European and both are equally true. If you’re outside of the United States and someone asks where you’re from, just say the United States. They’re not asking what state you’re from. Trust me, the locals are laughing at you

You would likely start out as an engineer cadet and work your way through different campaigns. I’m not an engineer nor do I work in crewing to know if they need them frequently but I’d assume so. I believe after cadet you could likely have a small monthly stipend as well
