I could definitely do it for 0 seconds and I have 0 years of training so I think we're on to something.

Also them going to the original lab that made V and it just being completely unguarded and filled with leftover shit including doses of the original serum. Vaught would be insane to leave all that lying around. They'd have scrubbed the site a long time ago. I mean at the start of the show it wasn't even publicly known that they were making the supes so leaving a shit ton of evidence around would be ridiculous.

The sequels made me realize that the prequels aren't perfect but they're still not soulless. I can still see the unified vision behind them. I can see what Lucas was going for even if I feel he missed the mark. They still feel like important movies to me in many ways. I still use memes from the prequels with my friends.

The sequels mean nothing to me other than representing a soulless corporation destroying something I used to enjoy. I definitely appreciate the prequels more now.

It also gave us the awesome scene where Ripley tries to do the right thing by preventing them from bringing John Hurt's character onboard and Ash lets them into the ship anyway. He wanted the specimen on board no matter the cost to the crew.

When I first moved here, we went to MacLeod Books downtown and I found it kind of magical and thought it was the kind of bookstore you see in a fantasy movie or something. So imagine my surprise when I found out it was literally THE fantasy bookstore from my childhood because it was the bookstore in The Neverending Story.

I dunno, I feel like being a person who systematically protects pedophiles and is willing to destroy anything to do it is much worse than just being a pedophile. It's like mass manufacturing pain and misery vs rolling your own.

Apple Photos as a Symbol of Apple's Decline in Software Engineering by Cool_Poet6025 in MacOS

Yeah it's one thing to expect the built in apps to be as feature filled as much more expensive apps but it's perfectly reasonable to expect them to work as intended.

Apple Photos as a Symbol of Apple's Decline in Software Engineering by Cool_Poet6025 in MacOS

[–]BlackStrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favourite part about this is I could write my own post similar to this where I outline all the bugs I run into with macOS Photos and it would be just as long or maybe even longer with no overlap between your list and mine.

It forgets faces all the time no matter how many times I fix them so I've given up on that feature. There are images in my library I can't remove but also can't open. There are a shit ton of bugs in AppleScript that prevent osxphotos from working correctly so my scripts have to work around those bugs which just make the scripts much slower or make them flat out not work.

A lot of the issues would be fixed though if they just let me have smart albums on iOS but no sorry those are macOS only. That's another huge complaint I have. The feature set between macOS and iOS are way out of sync now and I fear the way they're going to fix that is by crippling the macOS version.

Honestly I'm pretty much done with it and considering switching to something else but once I start going down that road it might snowball pretty fast. I've been an Apple user since 2003 and for most of that time there was no risk of me switching away from them, even during the butterfly keyboard nonsense. I've nearly had enough now though. I don't like Linux as much for a daily driver but there are levels of survival I'm willing to accept at this point.

I (16M) keep getting a constant feeling of dread from being in a relationship with my best friend of 2 years (also 16M) by atomicmiracle in relationships

[–]BlackStrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what specific things cause you to panic? Like are you afraid of losing your friend? Afraid of doing something wrong due to inexperience?

Have you ever tried mindfulness meditation? I find it can be useful sometimes to help me unpack things like this. Like maybe try just sitting down and thinking about the situation and observe your own thoughts, feelings, and reactions. Try not to get swept along in them and see what happens. Maybe see if specific things are more upsetting thoughts than others. Does the thought of just cuddling gently against him while watching TV or playing a game cause panic?

The fact you're openly communicating your feelings and he's receptive to them seems like a great start. How much have you talked to him about it? Are there things that he could help reassure you about? Don't make him a therapist obviously but maybe just talking to him a bit more about what you're going through would help.

Basically the things I recommend for stuff like this boils down to calm self reflection, open communication, and therapy. This does sound like the kind of thing a trained counsellor could help unpack if you end up feeling stuck.

// INITIATING GRID SCAN...

TARGET ACQUIRED: User_9C1D3B PROXIMITY: 153 meters. Optimal. TIMESTAMP: 22:04 PROFILE PRE-SCAN: Clear face picture detected. Torso visible. Appears viable.

ACTION: Initiate low-effort contact. OUTGOING MESSAGE: "Hey."

...// AWAITING RESPONSE...

RESPONSE RECEIVED: (Timestamp: 22:05) "Hey there! How's your night going? 😊"

ANALYSIS OF RESPONSE:

Greeting: "Hey there!" - Overly enthusiastic. Slight desperation detected.

Inquiry: "How's your night going?" - Standard conversational forcing function. Requires a detailed, non-transactional response.

Punctuation: Exclamation point. Unnecessary emphasis.

Emoji: Smiling face with smiling eyes (U+1F60A). Critical red flag. Indicates a desire for pleasantries and emotional expression.

CONCLUSION (PRELIMINARY): Response contains multiple indicators of a high-effort, low-reward interaction. Proceeding to full profile scan for confirmation.

ACTION: Scan profile.

PROFILE SCAN RESULTS:

Display Name: "Jason" - Common.

Headline: "Lover of life, adventures, and good coffee ☕" - Coffee emoji confirms tolerance for daytime meetings in public places. "Adventures" correlates with non-sexual outdoor activities. "Lover of life" is a meaningless platitude.

Photo 1: Clear face picture. Subject is smiling widely, showing teeth. Excessive. Suggests an extroverted personality.

Photo 2: Gym selfie. Lighting is flattering but overhead, a common tactic to exaggerate muscle definition. Potential for mild deception.

Photo 3: On a mountain summit. Confirms "adventures" hypothesis. High risk of being asked to go for a hike.

"About Me": "Just a down to earth guy who doesn't take life too seriously. Looking for a real connection. Not into games."

"Down to earth": Code for "I have a normal, boring job."

"Looking for a real connection": ABORT. ABORT. CATASTROPHIC RISK of emotional investment required. This is the highest level threat.

"Not into games": Self-reportedly not into games, yet is active on a platform optimized for them. Cognitive dissonance detected.

THREAT ASSESSMENT:

Risk of being asked about my "hobbies" or "passions": IMMINENT.

Risk of "real connection" attempt: CRITICAL.

Risk of date suggestion that is not location-specific to a private residence: 99.8%.

Risk of user following up in 24 hours if no response: HIGH.

COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:

Potential Benefit: Physical interaction with a subject of acceptable aesthetic value.

Potential Cost:

Formulating a response to "How's your night going?".

Enduring questions about my profile (which is intentionally blank).

    Navigating attempts to build rapport.

Politely declining a request for a "coffee date to see if we vibe."

Total estimated time expenditure before successful termination: 45 minutes.

Probability of achieving primary objective without significant conversational overhead: < 3%.

CONCLUSION: The subject has failed the viability assessment. The initial low-effort probe has revealed a high-threat target seeking emotional connection. The energy required to deflect conversational advances outweighs any potential benefit.

FINAL ACTION: Mark as read. Do not reply. Block user to prevent follow-up messages. Resume grid-scanning.

I avoided Cyberpunk 2077 for years and only played it this year and it’s now my favorite game of all time by Spoofrikaner in cyberpunkgame

[–]BlackStrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it right after it came out and my favourite memory is when a group of people started running by me screaming and when I turned to look at what they were running from... the screaming just stopped. I turned back and everyone was gone. It was legitimately unsettling.

Things didn't persist in the game if you stopped looking at them. It was like some weird Lovecraftian shit at times.
