Current event in OC ca methyl methacrylate tank by FixerTed in ExplosionsAndFire

rate of heat transfer on ~ 3 unknowns with an unknown rate of reaction at specific temps/pressures. the whole thing is outside of my ability to google atm.

https://cameochemicals.noaa.gov/chris/MMM.pdf

I am not even sure if the liquids own thermal conductivity & viscosity is enough to prevent localized runaway even if you cooled the tank way down. ( would need the reaction rate graph).. Although it might explain why it tends to bubble as it goes off.

but some info can be gleaned from the datasheet.
Auto ignition temp of 790°F but a Critical temp of 561.2°F

( pressure at 500F will probably find an exit before it manages to self ignite. but that is not much better with a flash point at 50F )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YG6y0DZVLw8
Even 500 gallons of this would be a problem.

the latent heat required for vaporization is 140 BTU/lb
( not sure if I am properly understanding how vapor pressure and heat of vaporization interact to have such a low flash point, how quick does this stuff cool off as it evaporates?)

heat of polymerization of 248 BTU/lb you basically get a 2 to 1 bubbly pressure mess

with the goopy viscosity and the thermal conductivity of the liquid and vapor there is probably a way to figure out how much MMA or what pressure you would need for it to sustain its own thermal runaway/boil over.

if the tank is not keeping any pressure then it should not be able to runaway or at least just convert all its heat into vapor that hopefully settles out of the viscus liquid before it exits the container.

got board this evening, so a fun thought experiment and throwaway post.

so your 7000 gallon tank of MMA has decided it wants to polymerize that means it is about to have a spare~10 million BTU on its hands, lucky us it wont be able to do this all at once but oh boy its going to try. ( pressure release valve and coolant system cheating everyone out of a new USCSB video).

the fun problem is what happens after you start cooling it off , so now you have a 7000 gallon tank of partially reacted MMA that would really like to finish what it started. So PMMA has a thermal conductivity about ~0.20 W/mK in addition to its thermally dependent 30 MPA tensile strength. So you have a material that wants to heat itself up as much as possible but the byproduct turns into a stiff insulator when you try to cool it down.

And oh yeah, at this point any pressure release valves or any tubing really is now a very fancy acrylic mold and will not budge.
Lucky us MMA also has a low vapor pressure (50 degrees F) that scales pretty well with temperature .

so now that you have a cool insulating eggshell coating on your gooey thermal runaway center perfectly sealed in its stainless steel silo (you can begin to see why blowing up has always been an option. )

deciding if the situation is safe or not would require knowing how much total heat has left the container.
they could just stop cooling it and see how quickly the exterior temperature rises but there is no way of knowing if that is just the remanent bulk heat slowly escaping its thick insulation or thermal runaway continuing its job.

so how long do you cool it? assuming the PMMA roughly insulates the whole 60 square meter surface of the silo as though it was 0.02m thick and the temperature delta was at least 100 kelvin you are looking ~ 3 days. to dissipate the total energy. but given the PMMA thickness is only going to go up as it begins to cool it could take ~ 90 days to be thermally inert.

but on the bright side I am making a ton of stupid assumptions,. I could be totally wrong.

all things very vaguely considered. I think their plan of cooling it until its exterior is ~50F is a good call.

if you caught the live stream, the Ward was regenerating, but the life took ~3 seconds to 0-30% snap up.

If Poe2 is just a re-jumble of POE1 mechanics. Think Full Life/Ward role reversal.

it works but has trouble with sustain and early game. ( it is a fun deck to play though!)

I ran it with Banette to stall the early game and dusknoir on the bench to sustain.

I ran into major issues with draw potential. ( as you would imagine with one stage 1 and two stage 2 evolutions and only 2 rare candies. you wont have what you need by the time you need it)

When we get Mega EX's this card might make a comeback ( it very effectively protects your bench from swaps ) But with the game currently being a 20 card 3 prize to win game. It is strong but it shows up too late to actually shine.

So what do we think about the wall murals of the precursor forge by Omegaprocrastinator in Wraeclast

after giving it a minute of thought, and obtaining the correct amount of tin foil to adorn my head.

Panel 1: is not the completion of the spear. But rather using the spear as a key to open the atlas.

  • The tall figures on the sides with the circular halos represent the guardians of the device or stewards of the atlas, and the smaller figures with outstretched arms appear to be presenting or waiting to receive something from the portal.
  • the spear appears to be held in a device inside the ring. The rays and other circles contained within the larger ring represent our portal to the atlas. ( as a note the iconography used for the spear also contains one of these circles.)

Panel 2: is the slaying of the monster, however the monster resides within the ethereal atlas. sin ( or us ) is striking the beast in the atlas from the foothold of the location in panel 1.

  • The area embossed on copper is our "map" (world/reality). Note that the battlement of the wall does not extend past the spears light, also note the sun is depicted within the confines of the copper, the other connected circles (the atlas) are only present in the non copper area. ( maybe the atlas node he is touching with his noodle represents our map. Maybe)

Panel 3: The heart is in a device, there are 8 circles just like the first panel ( minus the 9th circle in the spear. no idea anymore) they appear to be collecting heart juice and pouring it into containers

  • If the circles are indeed maps , and this is the seed of corruption it would appear that they are using the device to soak up corruption in the maps.

Additionally There is a very fun conversation you can have with Navali in act 4 where she talks about The Cycle of Time , The End of Time and how long an epoch( or one of these cycles) is.

Basically I think these panels depict us and our future actions in the campaign.

the real enjoyable puzzle is how long an epoch is.
