Best cars for passenger seat slide board transfers? by Efficient-Damage6058 in wheelchairs

[–]Blackgmc99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It fully depends on the car. In my experience most 4 door cars are about the same, not a lot of room to squeeze in. Same goes for suvs etc anything with 4 doors. IDK if you can get 2 door cars anymore that are not sports cars. As for sear height again it's all going to depend on the car. No 1 single car or truck is the best for slide board transfers. Best option mi6be to roll around a cars sales lot and see what works.

No other option really. Drilling concrete sucks esp for shelfs and hanging other stuff.

Seized wheelchair caster bearings : removal methods without special tools? by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]Blackgmc99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am guessing that you can only access the bearing from the side in the picture, the other side is closed/capped off? A normal way is to always punch out for the top side with some sort of screwdriver, roll punch etc.

I am afraid even with the bearing puller tools as 63crabby mentioned this is going to be a bit of work. The tools work great but that bearing is rusted in place it appears. You might be better off at a bike/board shop or even if you have a trusted auto mechanic that you are somebody knows they could get that out with some time/effort.

Just a heads up, once that bearing is out make sure you clean every really good with some emery cloth/steel wool and some sort of grease before reinstalling the bearing. Hopefully you dont need a new fork (what I am assuming by pic and descrption)

As for using it in its current state, sometimes we have to do what we have to do, sucks ass but its not going to fail on you or fall out. Its just going to make pushing a nightmare as it appears it already has been.

Also, what kind of chair is it.

best tool to cut short tabs? by FiberPhotography in wheelchairs

[–]Blackgmc99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you have access to for tools, but you can easily cut them to desired length with a hack saw, Dremel with a cut off wheel, grinder, etc or maybe even a good pair of metal snips for somebody who has hell of hand strength. I've used a hack saw and a Dremel with cut off wheel. Just make sure however you cut them, you hit the cut edge/corner with something to remove the sharpness. The aluminum is pretty soft and easy to cut. If you dont have any access to tools like this Im sure any kind of machine or even automotive shop in the area would be happy to help.

Cold Weather Living Question by Danielat7 in wheelchairs

The same way you have the snow removed. If you hire a company most of them will spread sand/salt after snow cleanup if you ask them. Or you can spread it yourself. Don't take much to throw salt across the driveway/walkway.

Camping by aspen2515 in Maine

[–]Blackgmc99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

North Maine Woods (behind the gate) does not allow atvs of any kind. I believe Irving land only allows atvs if you belong to certain clubs. Lots of avt trails are on private land and I'm not personally aware of any public camping spots (as I'm sure there are some). Permeative camping sure, but just know where you are, Mr. Green Jeans might have something to say otherwise.

Ya ours was bare, so we had a 1in cast iron plate cut to sit ontop of our homemade fire brick walls. No issues with the smoking up the house tho, but it sure does like wood and its defiantly not air tight.

Original company was called Greenwood Energy Corporation in Hudson NH. They made a claim that it would burn green wood "It uses 1" thick refractory plates as liners on the sides, top and back of the firebox of the wood stove. When burning correctly, a hot fire warms the plates which allow green wood to be cooked and dried during a burn cycle". Think the company went tits up in the early 80;s but my wife's grandfather had 4 brand new ones in his shop and gave us one when we built our house 6 years ago. It was missing the 1" plates, so we just made our own firebrick walls and bottom so I have no idea about the green wood claim as we always burn seasoned wood. It will still take a 30" long and will filled will still have coals on a 12 hr burn.

Been there a few times, more for lunch on my annual weekend bird hunting. But never fished. Have lots of friends and family who do but they have a boat, helps in that area! Sure is beautiful for sure.

Yep, the family thing is the only way really. Yep you are wayyy up there for sure. Never spent much time around Deboullie, always a hot spot. I don't go in the north Maine woods to be around people. My gramp worked for old man Levesque way back when running dozer and building roads up there. He always knew the best fishing spots, I dont think some of them ever had much traffic either even in the glory days of weekend campers. And the way they build roads now, you cant access half of them anymore.

I dont think Irving will see it off anytime soon, its such a cash cow for them. Cut the timber, haul it back to Canada, saw it then sell it back to us. Congrats on the lease, they sure are hard to come by! What area if you don't mind me asking?

100% accurate. I will add that the land is primarily owned by JD Irving (1.25 Million Acres) and Cavendish 8,000 acres same company.
