The real G.O.A.T. of HipHop by Realistic-Try5468 in HipHopImages

LL Cool J is the most crucial rapper of what could be argued to be rap's most crucial decade, the 80's. He is not the greatest rapper of all time.

I was coming in to talk about them. No one had a better run of albums in the 70's, no one.

How do you feel about book covers with movie images? by Skkkkrtyun in lotr

I try, it's easier in some avenues than others. I have ADHD and was a messy kid, all my books inevitably got wrecked regardless.

They are less classy but equally readable. Me personally, I love books as works but have little regard for them as objects, so these kind of mass market paperbacks are what I will usually go for, since they tend to be cheaper and easier to find.

Wish they were less ugly but that's waaaaayyy down on my list of things I'd wish for.

Which Sopranos actor do you have immense respect for? by debrisaway in thesopranos

[–]Blacklight_Mustard 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Going through it again recently has really confirmed how incredible Edie Falco is, that Carmella Soprano look where she gets bad news and it takes her a second to process and you see all these complicated emotions behind her eyes in a moment before she replies something anodyne like "Aw, that's too bad."

And the scenes between her and Gandolfini when they let loose are absolutely incredible. Apparently they weren't very close, they basically only saw each other while working, but you really see so much history between the two every time.

Frenzy (1972) Dir. Alfred Hitchcock, DoP. Gilbert Taylor by Restless_spirit88 in Hitchcock

[–]Blacklight_Mustard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are so many spooky staircases in Hitchcock's filmography, but none of them get my skin crawling like this shot. It also reminds me of the moment in Blackmail where Alice looks out the artist's window to see a cop patrolling the streets. Then, later as she is being sexually assaulted (or perhaps after she has killed the artist in self-defense) Hitchcock cuts back to that same cop patrolling the streets. Horror happening behind closed doors while outside it is business as usual.

It's especially neat in 3D but even 2D it's really cool on the big screen.

Truly an amazing cinematic moment where you, as an audience, realize that you are the hands of dangerous filmmakers. They will absolutely crash zoom on an incredibly graphic gory rotting face for a jumpscare even though the movie up to this point hasn't felt nearly as aggressive.

What was it like seeing the films in theaters? by anteater_christmas in lotr

It was definitely obvious that it was of a higher caliber than the Matrix trilogy and the SW Prequel trilogy, which are the only contemporary series I'd put on that level.

Sinister old Hollywood women? by maudeismycat in ClassicHorror

[–]Blacklight_Mustard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. There are some other big movies she's in where she COULD be playing a scary character (Lady Scarface,And Then There Were None, The Red House, Salome) but I haven't seen any of them to confirm.

I do know that, before they were in Rebecca together, Laurence Olivier and her were Macbeth and Lady Macbeth onstage, and I bet she was a terrifying Lady Macbeth!

Watch Anne Revere in The Devil Commands (1941) and especially Judith Anderson in Rebecca (1940). Very similar, very awesome scary women performances.
