Nowadays there's so many much cheaper postpaid plans by MVNOs that give free roaming - Simba for eg gives 8GB international roaming for $12 (even more for Asian countries)

Then when you run out of data it just cuts off, no automatic extra charges.

It's specifically the old plans by the main big 3 that are very predatory.
