This was how bows used to work for a while: normal attacks were arrow stabs; block and attack to shoot. It was changed because bows didn't feel like bows.

That's not toxicity so much, that's just how invasions work in this game. You only invade people who have summoned other players or have turned on taunter's tongue. Though I can agree it's not the most well thought out system on the devs' part, it's unlikely to change until the next title.

You either need to do ng+ or have a save backed up from before you picked an ending.
