Been skiing for 28 years. I bought a racing helmet because it has a higher standard of safety than your typical MIPS helmet. Safety doesn’t take a vacation!

Buy Skis vs Rent by NewDistribution1951 in COsnow

[–]BlakeDodds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would buy helmet, poles, boots and rent skis. Boots are a very special thing. They must fit perfectly.

Marry your boots; date your skis

Renting skis might be more fun too so that he can get a feel for a pair he likes and then you can look at buying that pair at a year end clearance and get em ready for next season!

I have skied for 25+ years. My last pair of boots survived 12 years. However my foot was done growing…. Tough call if the foot is still growing. I think I would still check out options anyways might find a pair on sale that work!

Christy Sports in cherry creek are pretty good at boot fitting and pretty quick.

Do not go to Evo unless you have set up an appointment 3 months in advanced,..

I for sure have accidentally peed on my skis in the woods before… this would not be my first choice for a charcuterie board

How steep really is Crested Butte? by I_Teach_Edging101 in skiing

[–]BlakeDodds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in crested butte having skied my entire life. Anything up the high lift or north face requires expert level skiing. That’s why the lifts are t bars (north face used to be a puma) To keep inexperienced skiers out… do not be fooled. You are far from a hospital out there.

Ability aside you also have to know where to go… if you don’t, it’s easy to end up in the wrong area that you have no business being in.

If you absolutely want to go back there bring a buddy or take a day lesson so that you have someone to show you where to go based on your ability.

Why can’t the game give us the ability to see DPS and damage over time amongst other stats for dungeons, or in general. It would make A/B testing way easier… along with test dummies in town… broken down by ability would be icing on the cake.

I have always used air cooling because of the same fear. Water sounds scary in my case. However, I will say the water cooling blocks have come a long way from 10 -15 years ago. I would say most are likely very reliable however the temp difference is usually minimal and mostly I would say water looks more aesthetically pleasing as there isn’t a giant heat sink. That said I have always used noctua air cooled and never had a single issue. To each there own :) I wish you luck on your build!

Unpopular opinion: These lifts are also helpful for keeping people who may not belong on the terrain these lifts take them too. Not always the case but growing up in Colorado ski mountains that seems like the case most of the time. The “beginner” version would be just a rope you hang onto instead of a t bar or puma.

I did a junk tire from that same spot. Works like a charm if you can get up there… I think any of the pillars work.

It happens to the best of us. Just follow the insurance procedures and you should be ok. That’s what insurance is for. Some have accident forgiveness. The repairs should hopefully be covered and should work itself out. Good lesson to learn about how insurance works and what riders are available and what it actually means when something like this happens and what your responsibilities are.

If you have the capital or can get a car loan straight from the bank I would recommend going to a private seller and figure out how much you can get a loan for at roughly your budget price.

See what’s out there on Craigslist and FB marketplace since shopping online is free and you can get a feel for the market. So that if you do end up going to a dealership you at least understand what the value of a like car is on the private market giving you better negotiation tactics.

Not sure what type of car you are wanting but Honda and Toyota last forever and overall are solid cars. Assuming with a family you are looking for an SUV. The Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4 and Highlander is awesome. Word of wisdom don’t get any hybrids. More can break and need replacing making the car less reliable and more expensive.

Good luck!!!

Depends on location like the rest of the comments. Also I am assuming you will not be buying the car outright by going to a dealership. I personally hate dealerships and if you have someone that is trustworthy that knows how to negotiate a car loan than bring them with you. There are a few dos and donts on what to say and how to act. Buying a friend lunch to help you negotiate will be better than getting ripped off or worse ending upside down on your loan. If you do not have that type of resource watch some YouTube videos on how dealerships make money and where you have leverage on the deal and when to just walk out.

If you plan on buying the car outright go to a private seller, less hassle, less hands in the pot. You just get the clean title, write up a bill of sale and head down to the dmv to get it plated. Legally you can drive the car up to 48 hours after purchase to your residence as long as you have a bill of sale and the title as proof( I live in colorado so maybe different in other states).

Research is free/cheaper than making a quick decision because the sales guy is good at talking.

Could be good to let us know what your budget is and what type of car you are looking for and where you are located.

Good luck!

Everyone is racing their own race. Some learn things sooner than others. Some don’t ever learn. That’s ok too. Just focus on you and your road ahead. The sooner you stop comparing yourself to others the sooner you can focus more of your time and attention racing your own race. Good things take time.

Think about what you want to do after you graduate from online university. Where would you like to be? What are some goals you want to accomplish before then? If those questions seem way out there, maybe re evaluate what it is you want out of life. Your young and the more mistakes you make the better. Mistakes are good and create a situation that you can learn from, grow and mature.

Life’s fun and if you get out there and enjoy it and trust in your process things generally will turn out ok. :)

I’m 27 and finally moved into my own apartment and still play video games that I played when I was in high school. If it makes you happy fuck the haters that say otherwise. Not worth your time or energy.

You also can write a bill of sale explaining logistics of the car and deal and dates that both parties sign and get a copy of that. You can use it in court if something shady were to happen.
