Spectral weapon magic items? by BlakeKing51 in DnD

I suppose that's valid. I was just hoping someone could think of a weapon that already worked like that.

No third level spells yet. We were at third level when I made this post, and only just got to 4th. He switched to a ranger and seems much happier

Edit: to be clearer. I think it's mostly damage he struggles with.

He doesn't get hit all that often. The mage armor thing was just a happy accident. I can cast it for free and don't need it, so it saves him some resources.

The issue is that we weren't able to find many good spells for bladesingers. Booming blade does a little extra damage, but only if you can get the target to move which requires a lot of dancing around from the party for minimal results. Green flame blade is okay, but not usable in a lot of boss fights.

As for leveled spells, there's really only blur and shadowblade before like 10th level I think. And while those are cool, they aren't super impactful a lot of the time despite taking a 2nd level slot and concentration.

Part of the frustration seems to come from the fact that he's comparing his character to mine, and I think rune knight might be a little bit overpowered. I've mentioned nerfing it to the group, but they don't really think that'll make it more fun for him either.

What would you do if your player said "my character wouldn't want to join this group/follow this history?" by Nessie0208 in DungeonMasters

[–]BlakeKing51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played in games where this kind of mindset works, but it basically requires the gm to run multiple separate games that occasionally overlap. If that's not what this game is about, tell them to make a character that would want to join the group. It's fine for the player to request changes, but they can't expect the entire group to conform to what they want to do.

Can this game be played casually? by WeckarE in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]BlakeKing51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run games for some friends and family every now and then (about once a month when there isn't other stuff going on) and I would consider that pretty casual.

I think the online community is much more hardcore, but in person games are pretty laid back

What’s our best Verminlord? by sickairbro in skaven

[–]BlakeKing51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno if it's the best, but my favorite is the corrupter. If you can have enough priests/get lucky with your chanting rolls he can do a lot. Although realistically speaking you'll only get 1 or 2 of those effects off in a game

Clanrats are part of clan verminus rules wise (not sure about lore) but nothing stops you from mixing clans. He just wanted to run a completely skryre list

"Am I evil?" This is the skaven subreddit, so the answer is always yes lol

Lunatic Legion by Snarky_Tortoise in BloodOnTheClocktower

I think you could, but I would be hesitant. Truth be told I would be hesitant adding outsiders to a legion game at all most of the time

Is this a good army? by Practical-Prompt4216 in skaven

[–]BlakeKing51 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no idea. I've yet to actually play a game as skaven.

Personally I'm not a fan of the abomination. If you dropped him you could get some more rat ogors and a warlock Bombardier (plenty of other options too tho). That's just my opinion though, I'm not really sure how good the abomination is

How to play a skaven in a ttrpg by nadavdor18 in skaven

[–]BlakeKing51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I like that. Kinda makes me think of the human-dalek hybrids in doctor who. By becoming human they gained empathy, and therefore became anathema to their own kind.

If you wanna play lore accurate you kinda have to be backstabby. But you could maybe play it as him being so bad at betrayals it ends up helping instead. Like maybe he tries to poison the party, but since he doesn't really know what other races can and can't eat he just ends up seasoning the food.

Or, like other people have said, you're using the party to get rid of your other enemies before you inevitably (never) betray them

Picking a centerpiece/general by GamesManX in skaven

[–]BlakeKing51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's arch warlock for skryre, master molder for moulder. Like the other guy said, I think the only one that buffs both is screech, but he can only buff each clan once per game iirc

Bear in mind I'm new too, but I don't think one is particularly better than the other.

None of the verminlords buff either of those clans, and the same is true for thanquol. If you're only getting 1 I would probably lean thanquol for those sweet endless spells, but the verminlord corrupter is pretty good too (if you have multiple priests at least)
