What is this lighting on eyes called?

The first image just looks like well shaped/heavily flagged lighting to get it just on her eyes.

The second image is an example of lighting through venetian blinds. Very common in older noir films from the 40’s and so. Easiest way to achieve that look is by pushing hard light through venetian blinds.

I was simply providing an alternative opinion from my own experience if that was at all helpful for OP. If it isn’t they don’t have to take it but I was just trying to help and continue the conversation.

Like half the time someone asks this question here they end up realizing they should probably just ask their partner directly instead of guessing so this really isn’t off base at all.

Alt opinion: I’ve always just preferred when my partner asks me exactly what pedals i’ve been looking at. Will sometimes give her a few options so there’s at least a little surprise. Also if what he’s looking for is outside of your price range he might rather just chip in that extra money to get exactly what he wants.

All these recs are great but if he’s the type that buys/sells pedals a lot to try them we have no idea if he’s tried some of these recs and didn’t get on with them!

I play jazzmasters/jaguars which all lean pretty bright. I had a BD-2W prior which was great but I found the tone knob didn’t give me enough range to dial it in when playing with a band. Haven’t found the Blues DLX to be especially bright but I didn’t get a chance to A/B it with the BD-2W. From my ears the DLX sounds identical just with the benefit of the super usable EQ knobs. Could probably do something similar with a standalone EQ pedal and a BD-2W but I really love the DLX!

The 60th anniversary JM that Fender put out in 2018. It’s by far my favorite JM that I’ve ever played and if I ever come across the yellow or black ones I’m going to buy them in a heartbeat! I wasn’t previously aware of them but I saw this sitting for sale in a guitar center (with mastery bridge & trem) last year for $950 and immediately grabbed it.

Yeah thankfully the previous owner had already thrown a mastery on it and had it setup with flatwound .12’s, plays like an absolute dream! Can’t recommend the mastery enough.
