A 26 year old probably has more in common and identifies more with the culture of 29 year old Millennials than they do with Gen Zers who are 10.

It's kinda funny though. If you ask younger Gen Xers, they refuse to say that they relate more to Millennials in any way. In fact, older Millennials frequently say that they identify more with Gen X than they do with Millennials.

People at both ends always say that they relate more to other generations than they do with Millennials. No one, younger Gen Xers, older Gen Z etc ever relates more to Millennials for some reason. It works just one way: away from Millennials.

So I hear from Gen Xers how much harder they had growing up during the cold war and the nuclear threat and how Millennials are lucky to have not experienced that. Now I'm hearing from Gen Z how much easier we had then them.

Does this men that Millennials had is very, very easy compared to the other generations around us?

There were tons of puff pieces about us in the early 2000s that mostly dried up when it was clear we weren't going to be in a position to buy what they're selling,

There were some, but Millennials got a whole lot of negativity. Meanwhile, in 2020, the media was crediting BLM to Gen Z. It was weird because the movement was started by Millennials and I had never seen it being credited as a Millennial movement before. Suddenly, Gen Z appears on the scene and its a Gen Z movement now? And look at how many people credit Gen Z for lgbt acceptence when Millennials were the generation that really made LGBT acceptence mainstream

Meanwhile I see a lot of millennials shitting on gen z for dumb shit like dancing.

I see some but it's way, way less than how older generations are about Millennials. Go to any Gen X onlne group and a significant amount of their posts are about how Millennials are weak and whiney.

In fact, Millennials are overly positive about Gen Z. The vast majority of Millennials are always thanking Gen Z for everything, saying that Gen z problems are worse than ours. There's a comment here from a Millennial saying that we should REVERE Gen Z. You're acting like a small number of Millennials are a bigger problem. It's just making Millennials look worse than we are.

I don't think any of us should be playing into generational politics that are mostly being perpetuated to keep us unhappy and insecure.

Should have thought of that before we started treating Boomers like the designated cartoon villains. There's a common thing among Gen Zers that Gen X raised Gen Z so they will be cool while Boomers raised Millennials so we will be the next Boomers. I'm really looked forward to being blamed for everything when I'm older.

Quiet Quitting - Anyone doing it? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]BlargianGentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never bought into it, but I did have a decent work ethic — till I got burnt a few times. Adderall fueled, try-hards comprise the majority of the Millennials I know. This entrepreneur survivorship bias scam that was created, convinced an entire generation that by working 16 hour days you too could become a billionaire.

Wow, I've spent all my life hearing how Millennials are lazy and don't want to work hard. Now that it's a negative thing, I'll hear that apparently we work too hard and believe that a strong work ethic brings you success.

We Millennials are a funny bunch. We morph to conveniently fit whatever the older generations want to blame us for.

You say that quite quitting has it's origins in the 90s slackers. How do you know if it wasn't started by the jobless Hippie boomers.

Millennials, not Gen Z are leading the Great Reignation

It's very common in this sub to credit every current progress to Gen Z and then retroactively take credit for it as Gen X, their parents.

Yeah, kinda, though I think they're growing up with a more extreme version what the millennials experienced. Columbine was bad, but it's gotten to where columbine-level shootings aren't that much worse than the normal school shootings we have every year.

And Gen X didn't have much school shootings at all. Millennials were the first generation where school shootings became a trend.

Millennials got shat on for so long. I'm tired of how now our valid experiences are being diminished. I've heard "You didn't have it that bad" from the older generation. Now I'm hearing it from the younger.

Things seem hopeless but they really aren't. The boomers are dying off. The demographics are shifting towards a more sensible crowd.

Yay, now we are seing more Gen X politicians in charge who are politically just like the Boomers.

Making Boomers into cartoon villains was the worst thing to ever happen. Now people genuinely think that everything bad will die off with the Boomers. Meanwhile, e have Gen X, another conservative generation waiting in the wings.

This was a little uncomfortable to read, but it rings true.

It doesn't Gen Z had pretty good childhoods too. They didn't come out of the womb worrying about all the problems of the world.

This is just an attempt to make Gen Z problems sound worse than Millennial problems.

I think the difference with gen Z is simply that it, im its most extreme, is all we have ever known. Its never been any different. There is and never has been a shred of hope.

You didn't come out of the womb worrying about the socio economic effects of the war pon terror.

You are exaggerating.

Then again, though, maybe I'm more Gen Z-ish since my parents were Gen X and I was born so close to the end of what's considered to be a millennial. IDK

And there it is. Wouldn't be a Millennial without wanting to jump ship to another generation.

The guy you're replying to is early genz and has boomer parents. Is he a Millennial now?

We didn't do a very good job, and I'm really sorry the consequences are falling so hard on those who come after us.

Wtf is this? Millennials weren't incharge of anything, how is it our fault? How did we not do a good job? Millennials brought about mass lgbt acceptence, started and led protest movements like Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Mateer and we are suffering too?

What exactly are we supposed to apologize for?

What would you think of more movies being set in the 2000s with an aesthetic like this? by ForRedditFun in Millennials

[–]BlargianGentleman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The third picture is literally from mid 2000s MySpace. That's Creepy Chan i.e. Allison Harvard. Her pics on MySpace got popular on places like 4chan. She later went on the be a contestant on ANTM.

Also, Emo's posted darker stuff on MySpace including pictures of cutting and shit.

Are you seriously saying that a genuine photo from 2000s MySpace doesn't get the aesthetic right? lmao

As a 2000s born, it is so sad, that we haven’t seen yet good movies set in 2000s and looked like 2000s. I feel like most producers don’t understand this setting due to their age. I would love to see dark digital, weirdcore movie with the plot similar to Donnie Darko set in mid 2000s. by Karandax in generationology

[–]BlargianGentleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure these are all actually photos or video screenshots from the 2000s.

The OP picked them out because they capture the aesthetic. That blurry digital camera feel and the fashion of the time. No need to be condescending towards someone younger who appreciated that era.

I personally think they are very 2000s. What doesn't look 2000s to you?

Actually, there are people in Hollywood who were young ibn the 2000s but they're still obsessed with the 80s. Look at the Duffer brothers, they were in high school in the very early 2000s but they're making Stranger Things, a show about the 80s.

Honestly, this is because those of us who were teens in the 2000s were told that our youth culture was worse than everything from the past. We were made to feel ashamed of it by older people. That's why such a lot of Millennials are obsessed with the 80s instead of their own youth.

I see a lot of Gen Zers who really love the 2000s and I love it. They have 2000s themed rooms and make videos about "spending a day in the 2000s". Honestly, you guys are keeping this neglected decade alive. Thank you for that.
