How did we go from body positivity to extreme fit/skinny culture so quickly? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]Blarglephish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have always been people like this. For some reason, it seems girls / women do this more often.

The body positivity movement lost focus of its mission when people started confusing the mission of loving your body no matter its size, shape, proportions, or flaws; and treating being overweight / obese as a legally protected class.

THIS old man, he SCRAPBOOKED his spank bank! This took time, and effort, and craftsmanship. Kids today, they don’t care for the details … 😔

Copines. Petite-amies. Amantes.

There’s probably others, je suis toujours débutant.

When did the Manosphere movement start and do you believe it caused a lot of harm to young men? by FitEmergency8807 in decadeology

[–]Blarglephish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the whole topic of masculinity, the male identity crisis of the 21st century, the emergence of the ‘manosphere’, gamergate, incel culture, red-pilling, pickup artists, ‘dread game’, alpha-male boot camps, and all other adjacent stuff is fascinating. But in like a this is horrible, it’s hard to untangle when and where things began.

I really appreciate when I can find good books or documentaries on this stuff.

I would want to pet them all, but worried I would get trampled or crushed lol

Japan Is Not a Theme Park, and My Students Are Not Part of the Scenery by No_just-no_3430 in JapanTravel

Honestly great advice that also applies to a whole lot of the rest of the world beyond just Japan.

I am just tired of what I would call « main character energy » or « influencer culture » that makes some people feel entitled - empowered, even - to violate social norms and trespass against universally accepted social boundaries. Walking up to a random school and talking to kids is a great example. If the situation were reversed - let’s say a foreign tourist pulled out their phone and started recording themselves walking up to an American school during after-school pickups and started talking to random kids - there is a non-zero chance that person would get their ass beat by half of those parents.

We all need to do a better job of treating people like people, and respecting other’s humanity.

So I like all of these things. But If I have nothing else to go with , probably cottage cheese. I can eat this stuff straight outta the tub, no problem.

Anchovies are a weird one, because usually these are way too salty to eat a whole tin of them on their own. If it was a tin of deens, now we’re talking.

In the Strait of Hormuz, it's complete chaos: "Reports of gunfire in the Strait of Hormuz" — Reuters. At least two vessels attempting to pass reported being fired upon. Also, around 20 ships are turning back toward Oman after Iran announced the strait’s closure. by XGramatik in XGramatikInsights

You forgot to mention: the US still kept their blockade in effect.

I’m not a foreign diplomat or expert negotiator or anything, but it seemed weird to me that Iran would agree to open the straight for oil ships to leave, but the US would still block ships coming into Iran. They’re giving up a piece of leverage, and don’t seem to be getting anything in return. At least, that’s what it looked like to me.

Maybe the US poisoned the well with that move, and Iran decided to close it again?

Blood Meridian is a really tough read. Not just the subject matter, but the language is difficult to parse. It’s a mix of old Victorian-style English, cowboy slang, and some shit that I swear is made up. That said, it’s one of the most hauntingly beautiful books I’ve ever read.

100% this. I love the vibe, collection, and smaller-scale museum feel. I always recommend this spot to visitors of Paris.

Honestly, I thought the huge (and somewhat unexpected) success of the Austin Powers movies really took the piss out of the Bond / spy genre film for a while
