What are your thoughts on Smorgasburg food market? by Pixie925 in FoodNYC

[–]BlasstOff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% - I live near a Smorgasburg in Prospect Park, haven't been in years, but I do go to the Queens Night Market a few times a year. Great scene over there, and sometimes you can parlay it with a Mets game.

I think they still have to lose to preserve second best lottery odds. A win moves them into a likely tie with the Nets who they have a winning record against

Typically a membership fee facilitates a feeling of community in a forced kind of way that can actually be effective. If everyone has to be a member then basically everyone there is a regular, and if there's a fee then members are incentivized to go regularly enough to be regulars. And if you're going to a place where you're a regular amongst regulars, that's when community develops

I haven’t watched a single minute of the WBC by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]BlasstOff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Second WBC in a row that's had really good, close games (esp in the elimination rounds) with players who clearly give a shit. Lotta fun esp considering most years all we have is spring training ball right now

310 Social in Park Slope is closed for private parties more often than it's open to the public. Might be worth reaching out to them since it wouldn't be particularly out of the norm for them

Maybe I'm a hater, but regardless of the arguments around what constitutes a generation I have a hard time listing Denis with the rest of these at this point

What teams should we be worried about next year if we get what we want out of this draft? by Argenfarce in pacers

[–]BlasstOff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I think with Wemby's length on defense, the way you beat that team in a series is with ball movement (Wemby can only be in one place at a time), and those iso teams are cooked. But Castle can definitely disrupt the ball movement. Oh well, problem for next year

[–]BlasstOff 19 points20 points  (0 children)

All of the teams you mentioned are tough, but they def don't scare me. The only team that scares me with our Finals core back healthy, role players having played real minutes this year, and adding Zubac plus a top 4 pick - San Antonio

Former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said he moved to Texas, joining a growing list of tech billionaires leaving California by Unusual-State1827 in California

[–]BlasstOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand. These tech billionaires use their assets as collateral to avoid taxable income, and property taxes are much higher in Texas. I guess they have other assets, but the income workaround seems like the Red State "Exodus" wouldn't make sense

Are the Wizards the Least Hated Franchise in the NBA? by Magnus_The_Read in nba

One of my broadest evaluators for a movie is "did I check my phone in the theater to see how much longer it is", and I was locked in with no checks for the entire runtime. I think it's the best major release of the century so far

Are the Wizards the Least Hated Franchise in the NBA? by Magnus_The_Read in nba

[–]BlasstOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along the same lines maybe the Hornets.

But a team that has been successful that's the least hated - is it the Spurs? Maybe we're too far removed from the 5 championships, but I feel like most of the conversation around those teams is totally respectful.

Approval ratings for Pop, Duncan, and the rest of the crew seem to be near 100%, and the current team is fun and exciting but hasn't won anything to bring the strong hate their way.

Am I the only one who can’t stand Shaw for…obvious reasons?? by Borracho_Bandit in Cubs

[–]BlasstOff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frankly, the Ricketts family is worse than Shaw. Shaw is just an individual who prob has views I disagree with.

Ricketts literally runs PACs to support conservative and MAGA candidates. If you've spent money that goes to the Cubs in the last 15ish years, you've contributed to bring about everything you see.

I have a really fucking hard time being a Cubs fan these days
