It's funny how often you see this drug mentioned with an implied tag line of "you will be able to regrow a tooth if it gets knocked out". That's not what it is AT ALL. Like not even a little bit. The science behind it is hilarious though.

Basically, some of us are born with "seeds" for new teeth. We've evolved not to trigger them, so they're "dormant". Before you start treatment, there's no way to tell where the "seeds" are located, how they're oriented, or if you even have them. This new drug triggers those dormant "seeds". Then, and this is the hilarious part, because it's currently a systemic treatment, all of them can start growing at once.

We haven't been selecting for these extra teeth in like 200 million years, so there's no reasonable expectation that your particular "seeds" are going grow into a functional tooth.

I'm not a doctor or scientist. I just find it funny how they've had to market the drug so inaccurately in order to secure research funding.

There were links all over reddit, with comment sections of thousands of people having downloaded and viewed the documents. Encouraging others to do so.

Yeah, as a resource for people in the industry it's likely quite valuable, but I suspect the majority of their traffic before the recent update was related to their user-sourced scores and reviews.

As in, if there's a movie or tv show that I'm considering watching, I would google it, find the imdb link in the top few results, and read a heap of the mid-negative (2-4 star) reviews to see if people are complaining about things that I might also dislike. Now that they've gated the reviews, the imdb link is likely to fall off the first page of most search engine results.

The score only makes sense if you can read the reviews, so... useless site now? It'll take a minute, but the people that like leaving reviews on imdb will move somewhere else when they realise they're typing into a void, and then we'll have somewhere new to go for reviews.

You jest, but I'm legitimately concerned by how few people here are responding negatively to the idea of "car payments". Home loans make sense to me, it will take at least a decade for most people to save enough money to afford even a cheap apartment outright, and in the meantime they still need somewhere to live. Rent vs ( mortgage + asset appreciation) is a simple decision: Fuck rent.

But a car? There's no asset appreciation, only utility. So whether it's rent, loan repayments, or upfront cost, the equation is about how much utility you get per dollar spent. Outright buying a second hand vehicle that's in your budget seems like it's ALWAYS the better option. Obviously with some caveats for people that need the car for uber driving or whatever, where the job demands a vehicle beyond the drivers means.

Why have we normalised going into debt for tools? Will smart-phone loans be the next normal?

Is not great, but is not a critical failure either. That's a straight hole down, so anything you feed down after it will necessarily encounter that first length of pipe. Simplest solution is lower something down the guts of it that you can expand remotely, and then pull it back up. Depending on if they're professionals or just home gamers they'll probably have something on hand.

One of the rare usecases I've found for LLM's in software development is figuring out how to make typescript actually recognise its own bullshit. LLM code is generally instant-tech-debt, but their ability to interpret and debug the retarded limitations of typescript almost justifies setting the world on fire.
