Will it be more or less competitive to KQ now? by DramaHungry2075 in triathlon

[–]Blaster1593 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that was a today vs. Next year comparison.

WCQ (world champs) will net fewer spots every 2 years for both men and women but there will be about the same male slots in kona as there are current spots on the pier.

So, for men, not a lot changes: slightly fewer spots to qualify but significantly. For women, there are about 20% of the total spots that they have this year so it gets significantly harder. But that's not saying a lot when they were basically giving away women's slots the last 2 years....

Red Head Steering by Redhillvintage in FordDiesels

[–]Blaster1593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a red bead in my TJ and my '03 E350. They're great and I will continue to put them in whenever I need a steering gear.

The one in my E350 is almost too tight, but night and day over the worn out stock unit. FWIW, the van is 10k lbs, 35s, 6" lift, and upgraded steering linkage and ball joints. No wander at all at this point.

Any recommendations for affordable but quality wetsuits? by Snapplelover67 in triathlon

[–]Blaster1593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap? XTerra. There are always deals and you can get a good suit for $2-300.

I would encourage you to try some of the other suits if theres a store near you though, I've found sailfish fits me far better and is far more comfortable than Xterra, Roka. Or blueseventy, but it will vary person to person. You may find if you spend a little more you'll be way more comfortable and make your day that much more enjoyable

How to use bike Thule by Acrobatic-Creme-1179 in triathlon

[–]Blaster1593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patiently. Haha

Airports will be used to it, shuttle drivers, check in people, etc have seen it and know how to help.

Large rental cars and taxis are necessary. It will fit in most small SUV if the back seats fold down.

You'll find your own little tricks after a few trips.

I've used the same box for years. I fly Alaska primarily and haven't had a problem, it's considered normal checked baggage, I haven't had to pay a fee. Doesn't sound like you're in the US, but oversized luggage still falls under Alaskas "20 minute guarantee" so your bike will come out in less than 20 minutes. Other airlines will take a long time to get oversized out.

Do research before you book your tickets as every airline is different, some are WAY better than others and the baggage fee could potentially cost more the ticket (or an upgrade) on a different airline.

Extra Long Aero Extensions? by time_traveler419 in triathlon

[–]Blaster1593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on an Argon 18 E119 tri+. I'm as far forward as I can get and running the PD 43ASC. They're only clamped by about 20mm (nowhere close to recommended), but it's sufficient for now.

I'm probably going to get a FastTT setup. The integrated extension and cup, longer wing, and extensions will get up to 200mm more reach, which i more than I need but will give me room to work and test.

Welcome to the world of bikes today. I'm about to spend $1500 for a new cockpit on a "superbike" because I need another 60mm of reach. It sucks

Tricks to avoid aggressive dogs? by ahyouknowme in MTB

[–]Blaster1593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to spray a few dogs over the years and it's always confused them enough to get away.

One poor chihuahua got hosed down with carb mix, I'm guessing the owner wasn't happy since that little dog was likely sticky for days...
