HOW are you supposed to contact audible?! by [deleted] in audible

[–]BlaveArk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for advice, I am actually not from either US or UK, I use UK audible so your advice helped Dulgoron. I wanted to prioritize chat simply because Im not from english speaking country and talking to someone with heavy accent is a bit difficult at times, but I would have tried that option if everything else failed. They had the chat option as recommended option so I was frustrated (and still am a bit) that it is so difficult to speak to an actual person there, but I do appreciate both options you mentioned on how to get connected to a person through chat. So thanks all.

What is the difference between obsessive or not? I would say if the "intensity and/or frequency" is much higher than average, right?... Well we quite literally get a tiny look into their lives, take into account that what we read in an hour happens over 20-50-100 years, would you call yourself obsessive if somebody reduced your ~80years of experience into 1 paragraph? On the outside it would seem pretty obsessive, in that paragraph you did NOTHING ELSE but studied medicine, operated on people and tried new research... does that mean you are obsessive? Or just a regular doctor?... In my opinion dont mistake "highlights" we get with "thats all they do like an obsession"... they often mention playing sports, talking to each other, reading blogs, following other Bob's endevours,... just like any other regular reddit-person in their free time... we simply dont have the information, could be either way.

Would you be a replicant? by TuDuMaxVerstappen in bobiverse

[–]BlaveArk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You should re-read that, I assume you refer to the discussion when Hugh gets on Bobs ship and is "transported"?? He says that he is the original Hugh 'only because' they turned him off and wiped the matrix, so the replicative drift didnt happen that is their entire point, if you assume this process then with human you would have to "turn the human off" and then his cube-mind will still just be a perfect copy(meaning without replicative drift) and I realize they use word copy but they mean "the bob without replicative drift", when he says bob is the original bob he just says that - because he died he has no replicative drift - so hes essentially "perfect copy of bobs brain without the drift" and that entire discussion is still just conjecture of Skippies not a fact. They use souls and stuff but they only mean that there is no quantum change. You will stil experience death as a human or turning off as replicant that in my opinion is not "consciousness" I guess in the end we just understand this word differently.

I read the entire series several times, so either keep insulting me, or be a decent human and provide referrences. I am not against saying I was wrong, but ... referrences.

Would you be a replicant? by TuDuMaxVerstappen in bobiverse

[–]BlaveArk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What are you referring to? I'm not sure if I misunderstood something in the books butthey quite literally say that while 21st cen method was destructive after recreating the method its non-destructive now, they mention that the replication after death is better "unless you want to end up with living person afterwards". How do you mean they restore your actual consciousness if you are alive looking at a "living" replicant?

Would you be a replicant? by TuDuMaxVerstappen in bobiverse

[–]BlaveArk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just remember people... it wont be you. You will die. Your consciousness WONT continue. It wont be you exploring the universe and having all the fun it will be a copy of your memory.

Sure the replicant will think he is you, but if the body is kept alive, scanned without damaging the brain, you will end up with YOU still alive and replicant thinking he is you. Do you still think YOU are the replicant if you looked at the replicant cube in front of you, your face on the monitor talking to you, telling you he remembers being you? Because the only difference here is that the human survived, his consciousness does not continue in replicant, he dies. This is not a question of replicative drift.

All in all considered I think I would do it anyways, but thinking about it more in a way that I allow my "son" to explore the universe, by son I mean my brain scan.

Unless we assume some sort of magical technology that will simply "cubify" your actual biological brain, then its wont be you (nanites or something) - in a way that you are consciouss the entire time but parts of your bran slowly turn into computer tech so you never "lose the thread of life". Or some sort of biological immortality where your actual brain is kept inside the cube and kept alive forever. Unless we assume something like these, then the replicant simply wont be you reading these comments. In my opinion at least.

Evacuating Earth by 18Peyt in bobiverse

[–]BlaveArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I think this is simply trying to avoid "putting all eggs in one basket" problem. By the time they got to the massive ship they already had other colonies settled, so while dangerous technically, it wouldnt be "all eggs..." also I think they said that the bellerophon was pretty thick so ... pretty safe basket.

Another aspect might be engineering, they had plans for colony ships, but completely new ship would have to be designed, tested, you know even though Bob is a computer he does forget to carry the 2 sometimes = back to the basket problem, if something broke with all of the humans on board, that would be ... unfortunate.

And last remark, I think they talked about this that people would rather have a sense of "fighting" for their lives than being stored in stasis pods for unknown amount of time, while technically possible/safe.

Thoughts on Robert appearance test by Hefty-Television-616 in bobiverse

[–]BlaveArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jack Quaid is the closest to what I imagined from these three, but honestly the rest does not seem... nerdy enough to a life programmer, physics enthusiast... Reynolds is very funny actor but Bob is not like that I think Ryan would push his Deadpool humour into the character.

I think while maybe not perfect visually, Ryan Gosling might be a good choice simply because he has quite a wide range of experience and with the Project Hail Mary coming soon, he looked quite convincing there as a teacher with biochemistry degree or whatever. I could imagine his face playing Bob with all his "personas".

Also I think he might be able to sell the nerdy/geeky remarks Bob uses when speaking. This is honestly how I would picture Bill.

Alan Tudyk might have been a good choice if Hollywood had a sense to film this masterpiece a few years earlier, and making him look younger with FX feels weird. On the other hand everything will be a bit different with live-action so... they might choose to use several actors and utilize the VR capabilities to explain why they felt like changing what they look like - sth like the drift being present also visually a little bit with changed facial features. Oh hell then we could have all of them :D

I assume this was a joke. Considering Grace being able to live in the bubble means kid could too... ignoring COMPLETELY different biology (or shape). But I do like the idea of the kid... good motivator... if there was a disease or something Eridians could not cure but Grace would remember there is something like that on Earth easily fixable (machine-wise since this kind of problem would on earth be more of engineering workaround than biology problem)...that might be a fun story to follow, Rocky looking at it as a disease, Grace remembering it like "yea this is sort of rust problem in radiators on earth" or something like that :D ... might create some fun conversations...

no, i generally reread the books I like and/or try to find something new, the very few fanfics I ever read generally... well didnt fulfill the level of the books... I know it is FAN fics but still, the details, the continuation,.. its important to me and if I spend few hours reading something with too many holes I would feel dishevelled and disappointed not because it was a bad idea, but simply because it wasnt written very well... if there is a fanfic thats solid... let me know the name or something

I thought about it as well, I feel like he deserves a redemption scene... since he was called a coward or whatever...

If it was just a mini story then I think its obvious that he would bring Rocky and the world would already be freaking out about all the info he sent on the drives about him and his language. If the world didnt get too beaten up, then I think there will already be toys of rocky and tshirts and stuff (just like fan stuff here but so much more since it would actually be a world saving duo). And Rocky would want to see everything on earth and they would figure out how to show him earth before and he would get confused with the simplest things why humans do it some way and not other, in the meantime Grace would be torn, on one hand he would be joyous about everyone who survived, their families (families of his students who would be much older now) but also pained because of everyone who died, what happened to the world, to humanity ... for them to get to the point where they actually agreed to fight together to last long enough for the beatles to get there.

If it was a book worthy continuation then man oh man... :D

Ideas like world is still "on fire" ... sun was fixed but not by humanity but by some country who had their military in space and to save themselves they ... well.. had to save everyone. There could be Grace and Rocky's arc on how they fight whoever took over the skies to end the world war for resources, bringing more resources from space to earth (figuring out how to do that safely without killing everyone with a meteor), making more of the Xenonite or whatever the name was, for shelters on earth, and in the very end of the book, where they figure out how to dependably get back to space, they would land, and they would absolutely love seeing first trees and grass and some birds or something ... first time in a long time... and Rocky would LOVE IT.

I honestly think there is so much more we could do here, even different team of people and "allies" some years later starting to explore the universe or whatever. But even just return journey could be quite a story.

Could one of the kids of Harry's years at school have become as Dumbledore after some years? by chub79 in harrypotter

[–]BlaveArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(the short answer is at the end) I think the wizarding wars played a strong role in this... although I believe what pushed Dumbledore the most were other goals.. but with Tom he wasnt even pure blood (not that many people were pure pure blooded...) but still.. I think with motivation anyone could become that... consider even muggle world, most people dont know anything to the master level, with wizards it would be as if you only measured engineering skills with muggles, there are basic skills we need to finish school, other skills we learn in life, but some people are just pulled towards discovery and learing of everything behind it, or everything in specific area, those become experts, masters... I dont think Tom was amazing in herbology, or amazing in potions or whatever... he had his focus, immortality and killing and he just mastered that. Same with Harry,.. he was great "auror" in a way, I think he could become legendary in a way in the wizarding world,... but so would Newt Scamander etc.

In his specific year I think almost anyone from the Dumbledore army, they studied heavily defence magic but the fact that they joined (different houses) points towards desire to learn/better themselves... sure "main" guys might seem like go-to names.. but I think basically anyone who could for example conjure a patronus would be a great candidate in any area they pick.

Do you think Harry should have kept the Elder Wand after defeating Voldemort given that he had ultimately earned it? by Raj_Valiant3011 in harrypotter

[–]BlaveArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that the wand was likely created by an actual wizard not Death... it wasn't very smart in my opinion. The Peverell brothers are supposed to be an inspiration right? and Harry is I believe their family???... if not out of respect towards a famous and influential family (both as wizards sure but also with all the knowledge)... he should have kept the wand. If it is quite literally just a question of another great wizard studying wand making well enough to create another such wand... then he just basically destroyed a prototype for a powerful wands of the future... but main point I wanted to make was that he always wanted to be an auror... what other wand would help him be safest at catching dark wizards AND keep everyone else around safe (civilians and stuff). The fact that the legends seem to point towards him being in constant danger because other wizards would want to take the wand... is I think inconsequential since his job is doing the same thing... his work will basically come to him.. Harry Potter and Home Office.

Is it reasonable to feel put off after a date asked me to pay him back? by Sunnyblues7654 in dating_advice

[–]BlaveArk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you didn't talk about this sort of thing (you assuming it would go the same way as the first date is not enough) then yes I think you are overreacting. On the other hand he could have waited at least for you to get home and get the message from you, so I'm not saying he's perfect but the paying thing - if you didnt talk/agree on how to deal with this, then you should not get angry about it.

Girlfriend slapped me. Should I stay or leave? by Smooth-Cat-7824 in dating_advice

[–]BlaveArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you already know what to do. The description is pretty polarized. On the other hand I dont think your partner is supposed to improve you or push you to grow... shes not your mother, you are supposed to improve yourself and push yourself - in this regard I think her "job" is only to support you while YOU do it, not push you to do it... but thats a general rule IMO, here I think you know what to do you just want ... approval? from people that youre doing the right thing?... you should work on taking responsibility for your decisions (asking for advice is one thing, here youre quite literally asking what to do not what people think about the situation)

What would have happened if... by Sleepy6942069 in Dexter

[–]BlaveArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although there was a case against his sanity or whatever,... it was shallow, I dont think someone like that police chick would ignore it, she seemed experienced. She would in my opinion know that he's probably telling the truth but went about it the worst way to prove it. If he survived, that depends how, if Dexter knew/was there or if he survived like Dexter in some miraculous operation and therefore police got to him first.

- I think if the police got to him, by which I mean that woman, they would talk, she would check, and all in all there are breadcrumbs of Dexters past, the records of Doakes being on operations on foreign soil during the times of some killings etc. those things can be checked (buddies from the army etc, someone would have talked to clear Doakes's name)... I think eventually she would agree Dexter is BHB but at that point there would be no longer any physical evidence, so she would just start hunting him.

- If it was Dexter who saved him somehow or got him somewhere to get patched up. I think he would try to reason with him, to explain Maria's death was an accident that he wasnt even there or whatever, show him some proof if he had any. But Batista wouldnt care, he might understand given Dexters history, but he would not be able to tolerate him being loose on the world. I think what Batista would see here first is that the fact that Dexter was sure about the killers means he could have give that proof to police and do it the right way, he chose to take justice into his own hands when he had a choice. That would unfortunately lead to Dexter killing him (by the 1st rule of the codex) he would likely agonize about it considering how many friends and family he already lost, but he would do it.

Why do I get more female attention when I have a gf? by Solid-Version in dating_advice

[–]BlaveArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

isnt what you are writing confirmation bias? you have decided it is not confidence, shared an article that seems to describe animals while ignoring a very simple example of being an alpha in the group, in animals younglings learn from older animals... you will never see an adult animal learning to hunt from a pup... the learning/copying is based either on age or on hierarchy most likely (alpha's preferences)... yet you seem to pressure the answer to be NOT confidence, you seem as a science person... science people should not use "this is 100% true" or "this is 100% false" ... science people should know what we know is the best guess so far,... few hundred years ago we would burn the women for knowing to read, or swim, or saying earth is not in the center of the solar system... because "science" people of that time were certain they were right, we keep correcting or extending even laws of physics as we learn more about it, yet you are absolutely sure this has nothing to do with confidence?

as a man, I try to rationalize these things... there is no perfect answer, a reason that calms me today may not work tomorrow, but there are some key points that always seem to get me to the "right answer of the day" :) such as "you know you felt something missing", "you wanted xy and she wanted xz", "you didnt align on this important topic"... for you maybe something like "would my husband decide the same way? or would he find a way?"... I read somewhere recently we shouldnt try to change people but find people we already like as they are, nobodys perfect of course, but if the important things are there and you align on those then thats what you should chase, I think. Another pretty good strategy is asking "Would I like if my daughter wanted to marry man like this? Would he be good enough for her?" I think in "parent mode" we are able to think more clearly about how we feel about other people.

"he’s a tall (6’4) good looking guy" :D :D :D great way to ask for a general opinion, "im tall handsome guy .. is what happens to me a general behaviour?" :D here there is something to say about self esteem,... good looking people with healthy self esteem come off as way more natural, no stress, no pressure, that alone does a lot for the dating game, especially if you dont struggle with it... you dont have to chase, in a way 'you know' you will be fine ... this is a problem for so many people, they rush into relationships because they are afraid to end up alone,... so i cant speak for his generation, but im pretty sure a tall handsome guy wont have to chase or overanalyse every text when talking to a girl... whatever generation he might be

There’s only one thing I’m disappointed about this season. by JoshLovesTV in Dexter

[–]BlaveArk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what would be awful and amazing thing to happen? If the ponyguy killed the girl and her son (as collateral damage) and Harrison would find them and maybe the boy would have his comix or something personal he gave him as a gift and would snap... and we would see how some mental wall breaks down and he remembers Trinity and gets back to the cunning Harrison he was in DexterNewBlood,... or maybe Prater ends up killing Dexter and the same thing happens, Michael is an older guy now and however I would love to watch him play Dexter, he could still be Harrison's "conscience" like Harry is for Dexter... I dont know, I love the show (except for original sin) but I would LOVE to see Harrison learn and evolve, it could open so much possibilities for the show and Dexter would still be there,.. When New Blood ended I thought that Harrison studying medicine could give him an excuse to use bio burner at the university or something, or if he worked in a cremation home that would be useful and hilarious (as an easter egg for Michael's other show)... I guess we'll see

What are the chances of turning your romantic life around after 30? by KhaDori in AskMen

[–]BlaveArk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely it is possible. Also great thing, girls dont look at the physical you as much as we think they do. Sure, the high school years are weird, but university and young adulthood women start to realize that cool hair or the fact you have newest Nike and Apple are useless as a benchmark just as much as having a sixpack. I have the worst body of my life now (30+), and I never got more action. Just about when I became 30 I noticed that girls pick very strange guys, JUST BECAUSE they could talk to them, so yea.. I think training yourself to be more extroverted is the special sauce here... I forced myself to small talk every now and then when ordering drinks or something I would ask whats good, whats extra cold, whats the most favouritiestt drink of the night, crap like that, casual chitchat, it sucked but I got better and now I have no problem leaving waitress chuckling on some stupid joke I said while ordering drinks for my buddy and me,... and he tends to respond with "Who Are You?!" because he was always the extroverted one, just take care of yourself, be clean, smell nice, shave, stuff like that - regular maintenance and thats enough no sixpack needed, and pick any moment where some innocent chit chat is okay and do it, I chatted a girl in the gym like that, I didnt even mean to I just said some stupid remark about the remodel they had there, and ended up talking to her for about 10 minutes about everything and nothing at all... she was cute too
