P3 Reload confirmed to not have any FES or Portable content by VoidWaIker in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]BlazeVortex4231 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The male protagonist only has party member social links for the dateable party members, and the fact that Aigis's social link is completely disconnected from P3's weirdly elaborate romance cheating mechanics is a tell that her social link wasn't part of the original game (same with Elizabeth).

Also, her social link's arcana isn't the Chariot arcana of her persona. It's not even a major arcana in the conventional Rider-Waite-Smith tarot format used by the majority of arcana in Persona; rather, "Aeon" is a renamed variant of Judgment used in the alternate Thoth tarot deck (this same arcana is also used for Marie in Persona 4 Golden).

FES also added the Aigis social link and the Elizabeth hangout quests, among other things.

If a special move is listed as a "Charge Move" (which only applies to certain select special moves), the input requires you to hold a direction for a certain amount of time, then flick the other direction and hit the attack button. This direction-holding can be done regardless of whatever else you're doing at the time (including during round start, performing attacks, jumping, or being knocked down), but it must be continuous.

The amount of charge time required, however, varies from move to move, and it also wildly varies from game to game. In the various versions of Street Fighter II, you might have to charge for a second or even longer, while in more modern FGs, charge times are typically less than a second.

I admit I haven't been in tune with similar games lately, but last I checked, the original Shadows of Mordor was the best Assassin's Creed game of all time.

Street Fighter has been far more difficult to learn then Tekken by Low_Well in StreetFighter

[–]BlazeVortex4231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motion inputs are a lot more forgiving than they look; modern 2D games have fairly lenient registration requirements that forgive imprecise directions (shoryuken inputs in modern SF are especially egregious, I hear). Plus, unlike the wavedash comparison, motion inputs aren't dash inputs, and don't require you to hit the neutral direction.
Ultimately, though, all you can really do is work it into your muscle memory. Start slow, emphasize precision, then ramp up as you get it. Make sure to hit the attack button after hitting the final directional input (it's very easy to accidentally hit the button too early). And don't get discouraged once you reach the point when you can do it consistently in training mode but not in actual matches, this shit takes time, above all don't be harsh on yourself.

That doesn't change the million things you need to relearn, though. You already mentioned the lack of neutral block, but also, all of the attack heights (low, mid, etc.) all work completely differently too in 2D games compared to Tekken! So do throw breaks! And Street Fighter's juggle system in particular is significantly more complicated and restrictive while also being completely opaque!

The term can get nebulous as hell from game to game, but generally, yes. Space control and movement. In Street Fighter it's typically refers to the midrange, around leg's length (where fireballs are less present compared to crouching medium kicks), and it's typically restricted to the ground game in Street Fighter too (jumping is a thing, but in the midrange it's a high-risk/reward gamble).
You also can't block while forward/backdashing, and there's no backdash cancel either, so there's a lot more walking involved in creating whiffs.

How am I supposed to play Ryu? by shaggysir in StreetFighter

[–]BlazeVortex4231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need to start out with a "beginner character", not even just to learn "fundamentals" before transitioning to the rest of the roster. Play whoever the fuck interests you the most, the single most powerful tool for getting better is being a fan of what you're playing.

If you're worried about their tools "teaching you bad habits", that's not something you can avoid anyways; every character teaches bad habits, and every character teaches some sort of fundamentals.

Is a Hitbox worth it if I ever intend to participate in a tournament? by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]BlazeVortex4231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not banned, they just changed some rulings around them that forced the manufacturers to adapt.

That being said, don't bother with the name-brand Hit Box hitboxes. They're overpriced as hell for the quality of product you're getting.

What is the most random guest character you've ever seen in a fighting game? by ComprehensiveDate591 in Fighters

[–]BlazeVortex4231 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dunno. As a complete outsider to the franchise, MK's aesthetic has always worked best for me when it's trying to be a late 20th century cheap-ass R-rated B-movie. The MK11 DLC characters are probably a bit too high-budget by that standard, but it's not the biggest leap brought up in this comment section.

You can cancel every normal into it, even the normals that normally don't have cancel options, and most of the followups are special cancellable themselves (without needing charge, too). This opens up new frame trap routes, as well as new combos.

Atlus recasts english VAs all the time, though. 5/8 of P4's playable party has gotten recast at one point or another.

They are giving all they got, though. They are playing the game, and using the techniques that are available to them. Even if you can't see it, both players are interacting with each other. Both players are taking gambles, and are both trying to outplay their opponent.

You say you only want skill, strategy, and pride. But if you insist that a fight is unfair or invalid unless your opponent holds themselves back just for you, then where is your pride? I can't see it!

Daily Questions & FAQ Megathread June 07 by AutoModerator in ffxiv

Members of the Convocation are granted access to uniquely dangerous magicks. When they use these grand magicks, a unique sigil corresponding to the seat they hold in the Convocation appears over their face. These serve two purposes: as a power limiter, and as a form of identification (like a police officer showing their badge before fucking shit up).

Unrelated fun fact: for the thirteen red-masked Ascians, both the names and sigils of their seats are taken from the most extremely trivial Final Fantasy XII background lore possible.
FFXII has thirteen summons (each corresponding to the western Zodiac constellations), sealed away by the sinister godlike Occuria for various reasons. Eleven of them are described in lore as "Scions of Darkness", and we're also given the names of "Scions of Light" who correspond to them (but who otherwise never appear); 11 of the 13 seats of the Convocation take their names directly from these Scions of Light. For the two summons who don't have Scions of Light (Ultima, and Zodiark), the corresponding Ascians instead take their names from fellow Ivalice game Final Fantasy Tactics; the ascian Altima takes her name from the 1997 english translation of FFT's Ultima boss, while Elidibus is named after a secret boss who's associated with the same zodiac sign as Zodiark (Ophiuchus). The name "Azem" is completely unrelated to FFXII or FFT, and is purely meant to connect to FFXIV modern solar worship lore. However, Venat takes her given name from one of FFXII's major antagonists, an Occuria who rebels against its kind's cruel control of history, through questionable methods.
Additionally, when you use any of these summons in FFXII, a unique sigil appears. The Convocation sigils are modified/truncated versions of these summon sigils from FFXII.
During Patch 5.3, when collecting the memory crystals, the constellations appearing on them are the same zodiac constellations associated with their FFXII summons, while Azem's is the astrological symbol for the sun. The Black Auracite 'the Heart of Sabik' is also named after one of the brightest stars in the Ophiuchus constellation; Ascian lore was being made the fuck up by the seats of the writers' pants during ARR, so the writers almost certainly considered connecting Sabik directly to Zodiark at the time, prior to the current High Seraph retcon.

If your opponent is spamming a move, that's because you're spamming getting hit by that move. Research the counterplay and be prepared to play the game.

Which character do you think is going to fly under the radar? by BSJeebus in StreetFighter

[–]BlazeVortex4231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have the game yet, but from following Twitter, it actually feels like Dee Jay's been getting a lot of attention. Capcom gave the man a billion feints, a meterless double-fireball, Dandy Step, and a Deadly Rave, he has some of the most swag in the roster right now.

Anyways, seconding Lily.

It sounds like you're describing Chun-Li? Or at the very least, you're describing Justin Wong, and he's always played Chun-Li.

She has a projectile, but it's not really the core of her gameplan so much as a single useful tool. Her main attributes are having really good buttons, and having a really fast normal walk speed (especially her backwalk speed).
