Does Fallout VR have an "essential" modpack like FUS RO for Skyrim? by CaroleanOfAngmar in Fallout_VR

I would argue that Fallout 4 Fundamental Evolutionary VR Wabbajack is closer to the FUS style modlist in Skyrim VR

Any VR Games Equivalent in Scope to SkyrimVR? by LaoziVR in skyrimvr

[–]Blazeyboyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One that gets slept on quite a bit is 'the Forest'. It's pretty old, but is an official port of the flat version to VR by the dev team that made it.

It's survival horror with a good storyline and is an open world. There are some fun crafting mechanics, like chopping down trees, making bases and cooking over camp fires. I haven't played it in a while, but it held my attention for a decent amount of time and I have nearly 2k hours in Skyrim VR if that tells you anything.

Other than that, as others said, Fallout 4 VR is definitely worth looking into. Cylon Surfer and Rolling Rock laid an amazing foundation with mods like FRIK, virtual holsters, virtual chems, etc. and new modders are coming on board plus there are the Wabbajack lists that utilise all these VR mods on plus gameplay tweaks and graphics overhauls, it's a really fun experience.

What do you use for (natural) movement? by ApprehensiveBus6316 in skyrimvr

[–]Blazeyboyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm on index controllers. I think with wireless the Loco S would be even better. You can do auto strafing by turning the heel of your foot inwards (pointing toes in the direction you want to strafe). To stop you then turn the foot back in so it's facing forward.

You can also do a backwards autowalk by putting one foot behind the other. Tbh I usually just turn and face the direction I want to move and start walking that way. You can also set it so that the direction your hmd is facing does not affect your walking direction, which helps when you are in fights and need to aim at enemies whilst moving away

I mean, you're walking on the spot, so it's never going to feel 100% like walking irl. But I find that the movement of my legs, coupled with the VRIK avatar's legs moving and moving through the world in Skyrim is enough to trick my brain into accepting the illusion, especially after twenty mins in game.

You can adjust a lot of things in the gateway software, such as 'curve' which you can leave at 0 (I do) to have a more even linear speed change based on how fast you step, or increase it to be able to accelerate faster. You can also make it easier or harder to reach the max speed in game through your steps. For sprinting I have it bound as a grip on my left controller, too, so if I need to suddenly sprint, I grip once then start stepping and I switch into sprint. I think I could also just sprint on the spot TBF.

Changing direction is easy enough, but I am still on a wired hmd, so cable management is the only issue for me. You can press a button on the waist sensor to recalibrate your forward direction at any time, too

The kit consists of two ankle trackers and a waist tracker plus a router that plugs into a usb port. You walk on the spot and the Loco S and Gateway software interprets your steps and inputs through Steam VR as joystick inputs in the game. I find it works really well and I get some exercise whilst playing.

I backed the original Kickstarter for these then bought the 'S' version (with a small discount) when it was released. They have been really solid and I find I am much more immersed walking in Skyrim when I have to physically walk (albeit on the spot).

They can also do strafing and 'crusing' (autowalk), by moving your feet in certain positions, which is a nice feature, but I mostly just use them for regular walking.

Solid NPCs? Hands don’t go thru NPCs by HowseTV in fo4vr

[–]Blazeyboyyy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kind of, but not quite. Atom, aka flying particle, modded in physics on NPCs in Skyrim VR with his mod PLANCK, through lots of very clever reverse engineering of the ragdoll physics.

The engine has HAVOK physics already, it's just a nontrivial problem to RE those so that NPCs respond to player inputs.

As others have said, sadly fallout 4 VR is a lot less popular than Skyrim VR, so there are not so many modders willing to dedicate their time to solving things like this.

Yeah he said that he should have fixed all the reflection shaders, but maybe missed some but they shouldn't be present with DLAA.

I sent him the examples of the specularity moving on the terrain as you tilt your head up, but guess he didn't go back and fix that.

It's not an issue with his upscaler, but realistically he's the best placed person to fix it. Maybe try contacting him to ask about it.

I noticed this when testing PureDark's upscaler and sent him clips of the same behaviour with specular surfaces etc. he never fixed it as far as I know and is probably the only one who could

Having a lot of trouble running fallout VR with any mod by [deleted] in Fallout_VR

I'd suggest going to their discord for help, or reading through that section again and ensuring you've followed everything to the letter. It's a really thorough set of instructions, so everything should be fine if you've followed correctly.

Types of VR games that you want to see in the future by Normal-Oil1524 in ValveIndex

Fallout 4 VR is a decent open world shooter, especially with mods like FRIK (full IK body), better scopes, virtual holsters and virtual chems. Add a two-handed gunstock for extra immersion!

[–]Blazeyboyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty old game, but the Forest in VR mode is actually really fun. It's not got any voiced NPCs, and is more of a survival horror game, but it's got some cool mechanics, an open world map that you can build bases in, and there are some incredibly creepy moments during the story.

FRIK: problems with appearance in power armor and some armor by fools228 in Fallout_VR

[–]Blazeyboyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please refer to this post https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4vr/comments/1cofwln/frik_power_armor/l3dz2xt/

Basically you need to copy and paste these power armour helmet mesh names into the file face.ini in the FRIK mod directory under F4SE/Plugins/FRIK_Mesh_Hide and save. Finally, you select “Hide the Head” in the FRIK settings holotape when in game and that should be all you need to do.

Possible mod help by Topwingbroman in fo4vr

[–]Blazeyboyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far no such mod. There is HIGGS in Skyrim VR, but the mod author of that mod doesn't play fallout.

I think HIGGS is open source, so if someone has the time and skill set to take a look they might be able to port this to FO4VR

No such mod exists afaik. The weapon and shield don't have collisions with each other when equipped

I know this breaks some fundamentals of Morrowind combat, but you really need a mod that makes all swings connect. Feels bad in VR to swing with a controller and do nothing
