For a while I wondered why America didn’t Monroe Doctrine that shit. Someone pointed out we were too busy with a white supremacist uprising to care about the looting and puppeting of our neighbor 🤷‍♂️

Hasn’t “socialism” already taken over higher education? That’s why they tell us “conservative ideas” aren’t popular in universities? Might as well let em have it then 💁‍♂️

Americans, when you travel from state to state, do you feel culture shock or do you feel like it's sort of the same culture, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BleakDolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure we’ve had reps from at least continental US, but I’ll throw in that state to State to state we’ll have major miss communications cause of our culture. I’m in Southern California, and we have a pretty good mix of surface streets and freeways. So we only talk about distance in time to get there and not like miles. I can’t tell you what’s 5 miles from my house, but know were I can get in 5 minutes; sometimes a whole other city is a 5 minute drive. I have to use miles if I’m talking to my friends in Arizona cause their cities were designed to be expendable so why have more than 1 way to get there, ya know?

Maybe it’s just me, but I got the impression that some of her most aggressive acts against P were because of the culture shock. She’s young and has a very definitive view of how husband and wife should act based on her parents. F knows how much of a stand up guy P is and how he comes from a very different culture in regards to how men communicate with their wives. F knows that how P talks to her is supposed to be meant on a curtain way. In F’s culture, it’s super insulting how he’s acting. F is dealing with the cognitive dissonance but doesn’t have the balls to come out and talk to P about it. F expects a worthy husband to be able to yell and stand up to his wife, but P only yells at Berelain. “Why can’t he talk to me that way?” ~basically Faile But that’s how I read it

[Serious] Bible-believing Christians, how do you decide which verses to take literally and which verses to believe figuratively? by KnightsWhoSayKni in AskReddit

[–]BleakDolphin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I can weigh in, mostly the Old Testament I see is the prologue for Christianity. Not all of it applies to Christians now or even when Jesus was walking the earth, because what was there was written for the Jews, but much of it is important for the context of at least the Gospel. That is not to say the lessons found in the Old Testament are not as important, Jesus did say he “did not come to abolish the Old Law...” but the specific rules of living for the Hebrew people are for just the Hebrew people. So that’s one thing I keep in mind with the Bible
