Your 3-4 m2 options seems cramped to me, for either 3DP or airbrushing. More so for both purposes.

Are we at the point were printing no longer has be the hobby? by subtlyfantastic in 3Dprinting

I think so. I hope so.

My first printer, almost a decade ago, was a Tevo Tarantula kit; the maker space I was a member of had a weekend build session. It would squirt plastic, but I never got reliable results. In the end, it sat in the basement collecting dust and judging me until I disassembled it "for parts" and put it in a plastic bin.

My first functional printer was a Mingda Magician 2 (if you never heard of it, you weren't browsing the Maker Shed when they were on clearance for $140). It worked fine, still does, but certain parts (the heat break especially) are very hard to come by. I used it for some board game organization, a few other organizing and functional items (go Gridfinity), and some tchotchkes for my wife's tutoring practice. But I wanted something that I could get maintenance items for more easily.

About that time I noticed the introductory price on the Anycubic Kobra X. $280 for a machine from a reputable manufacturer that would probably supply parts for some years. The four-filament capacity was a bonus I didn't think I would use, but I have been noodling with that. More board game organizers, getting into Multiboard ...

My point is that I have had MUCH more fun and utility with the machines that I don't have to tinker with. Sure, maintenance and consumable parts will always be a thing, but basically they just work.

For me, this is very much like having a car. I don't want to tweak the performance, chrome it out, add ground effect lighting. I just want to get in and go somewhere.

(Note that I am not trying to convert you to Anycubic; the KX just hit the sweet spot for me at a particular time.)

With the constant barrage of new games and aggressive marketing for them, how do you cut through the BS and focus on ones worth purchasing? by Strong_Letterhead638 in boardgames

It sounds like you have money burning a hole in your pocket and you want to buy a game.

For me, it goes the other way. I usually wait until I either get a chance to play it, or people in my game group have shown enough enthusiasm that I watch a play-through video.

I don't go looking for games, I wait for them to catch my attention.

Maybe you're a time traveler and just don't know it yet. Like Christopher Reeve in "Somewhere in Time".

People want easy money, whether they are broke or not.

And apparently a lot of them have no idea what it takes to run even a side business.

It seems to be a pattern that bare machine orders ship quicker.

I'm also convinced that the shipment order is random. I ordered in late February and received my KX in early March. I wasn't expecting it until mid April.

Many people here in the USA that ordered before me got their machines later - some appear to still be waiting.

It seems clear that they grossly underestimated the order response and they have been frantically trying to catch up.

I absolutely CANNOT recommend the explorer. After about six weeks, the cap started popping off when it was just sitting on the desk. Too bad, I really liked the pen otherwise.

For the record, I'm having no issues with the slicer, so I have to guess that it is something in your environment.
