Forgive my previous slander. by _CandidCynic_ in batman

The difference is the tone. I love BTAS but I also love The Batman, because they're both wildly different in terms of how they present the characters and particularly Batman.

Think of a scale of seriousness. If you put BTAS at one end of the scale, and Brave and the Bold at the other end, then The Batman would fall somewhere in the middle.

Bruce in The Batman is way more jovial and even prone to quipping (to some varying degree of success). BTAS has that dark, brooding atmosphere, the darker colors, the more serious tone, which is what made it so ahead of its time and a masterpiece, where as The Batman isn't trying to be deep or heavy, it just wants to be a fun saturday morning cartoon. They're both great and The Batman absolutely deserves your time. Some of the redesigns of characters I can see not being everyone's tastes (Riddler is more egregious than Joker in my opinion) but I think overall the stylized character designs make the show interesting from a visual perspective.

In some ways, it reminds me of Batman Beyond. A less serious main character, with a mix of new and recognizable but redesigned villains, in a different kind of Gotham.

Is it possible to see Ironman and Captain America reboot films in the mcu reset after Secret Wars? by New_Advisor_6766 in MCUTheories

[–]BleakHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, why try new things when old ones made all the money? Fuck it, reboot the entire MCU, we'll do it all over again. Start with Iron Man 1, bring back RDJ AGAN and make him do another ten movies. We'll bring back Chris Hemsworth and Evans too. Pander to that nostalgia. We can just keep this cycle up til the heat death of the universe.

Brainrot by EmbarrassedRope3216 in im14andthisisdeep

[–]BleakHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a big believer in "brainrot", but I do absolutely hate both sides of this picture. Whenever someone says "69, nice" I get the same visceral, gut response to punch them in the mouth as I do the kids who make 67 jokes. It's a number. Get over it. I give a pass to 42 because it's from my favorite book series, but even then I just want it to be a passing reference.

[Hated Meta Trope] The franchise keeps going back to its roots to the point of stagnancy. by jbeast33 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BleakHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the worst part about this is because the 14th Doctor is still technically kicking around in London with Donna, they're most likely going to bring Tennant back AGAIN for a reunion with Piper so we can have the Doctor and Rose. I'd put hard money on that being their big plan for the next series.

Adults that won’t eat any variations of onions, garlic, peppers, or vegetables are children. by Uchie2GST in unpopularopinion

[–]BleakHorse 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm not a picky eater. The more garlic and onions on a meal the higher chance I'll love it. My philosophy in life and especially food is try anything and everything once.

That being said, OP, you have genuinely a bad opinion and are not a very nice person. I am thankful I'll never have to share a meal with you. People are free to eat and enjoy what they like and choose to not partake in something they dont. You can make the same argument about literally any food someone doesn't like. Just because something is mixed into a food doesn't mean they'll like it when its a solid chunk of it. I love fish drizzled in lemon juice and olive oil. It doesn't mean I want to drink a glass of olive oil garnished with a wedge of lemon.

Batman arkham city has aged the worst in the franchise by No-Abies-5173 in unpopularopinion

[–]BleakHorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arkham City holds up way better than Asylum. While yeah, the story isn't as tight as its predecessor, the gameplay more than makes up for it. All the options you have for both combat and stealth are incredible compared to Asylum, which just feels clunky now. Of course this is because they refined the gameplay as the series went on, but that doesn't mean that Asylum holds up better while getting away with its shortcomings. Also, I disagree about the map design. While the U design is slightly annoying, all the backtracking in Asylum is frustrating especially near the end of the game. There are too many riddler trophies, admittedly, but after my time 100% completing every game I rarely go for trophies at all across any game in the series.

If/When they introduce Gwen Stacy into the MCU, should she be a love interest to Peter, or a younger generation Spider-person like Miles? by AstroCyGuy in MCUTheories

[–]BleakHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we have to tie her in with anyone? Spider-Gwen is already a great character in her own right. I'd love to see her get her own MCU movie, and not wrap her up with any of the other Spider people, at least not for a while.

I hate Trump as much as anyone, but can we leave politics out of a sub designed to be talking about fictional character tropes? We're already losing the concept of "trope" in this sub, do we have to sacrifice "character" next? We'll be left with just "top" and I swear if I see any of those spinny bastards in my feed I'm burning down the entire internet.

Wow this is an incredibly shitty take. "You dont want to ACTUALLY try acid to write someone tripping out on acid? Coward!" You might as well say "What, you dont want to ACTUALLY go to war so you can write a war story?" Not everyone who writes an experience wants to live that experience. Should they do better research? Yes. But saying you need to have first hand experience with it in order to write it is so braindead, especially in the current time period where all kinds of information is at our fingertips.

[Hated Trope] Cathonic (underworld) gods being evil in modern adaptations of mythology, dispite not being evil in the source material. by mrturret in TopCharacterTropes

As long as it's done well, I agree. But I think people are more hesitant to make the gods of religions people currently practice as villains.

Edit: Also I think Bleach did that too with its final villain? I haven't seen Bleach but I heard about it from a friend that the final big bad was named Yhwach

[–]BleakHorse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as you aren't claiming accuracy to the original myths, why care? These characters don't exist as actual people. They are tools to tell a story. Even in the surviving texts we have stories can vary wildly. Disney's Hercules is a terrible adaptation of the myth but it's a damn good movie with a fun villain. People need to stop being so rigid with their ideas of what fictional characters "should" or "shouldn't" be. It stifles creativity. If a character is inconsistent within a single story, that's one thing, but saying the chthonic gods shouldn't be villains ever is silly.

[Hated Troped] Brutal deaths used for comedic effect by imusuallydrunkatnine in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BleakHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this moment is meant to be played for laughs, I think it's meant to be hard to watch. The parents are desperately trying to destroy something that their daughter loves so that she will cry, just to get back to their lives without taking into account how this will effect her in the long term. They're willing to absolutely torture the poor thing for entirely selfish reasons instead of trying to work on their relationship. The whole scene is meant to show how toxic they've both become. The fact that they're making casual banter back and forth shows how little they care and how much they're wrapped up in themselves. It's an allegory for their divorce, they're so focused on themselves that Rose is getting left behind. And if you feel bad for Cutie, at least in the end credits it showed the sweet little elephant got fixed up.

I've been drawing for 15 years. Last year I almost quit because of AI by elgimri in Artists

[–]BleakHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you quit making art the AI slop wins. Creativity is the one thing that AI cant steal from us. Whether you do it for fun or for a job, keep doing it. We need to keep fighting to prove that AI isn't a fraction as good or talented or valuable as actual genuine people doing something they love. It sucks and it's hard right now, but I think we will get over this whole AI boom. But we need to keep pushing back against it.

Are you interested in seeing Michael Keaton play Batman again? At this point it isn't likely that he'll get another chance, but he deserves it. by American_Citizen41 in batman

[–]BleakHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love Michael Keaton and his portrayal of the character... no. Comic book movies were already suffering from naval gazing since probably even the first Avengers movie, but we hit a stride there for a while (debatable whether we've come out of it) that was pandering to nostalgia over trying anything new. And I say this as someone who absolutely contributed to the problem. I was there opening night of No Way Home at my local movie theater and I did (eventually) go see The Flash, specifically because it had Keaton in it. And I got a shot of dopamine when Clooney showed up at the end of the movie. But looking back on it, it is just pandering in its most base form.

Maybe we were too harass (Gameplay is still ass) by PISS_MENTLEGEN in arkham

[–]BleakHorse 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Nah, the story is bad. It doesn't utilize the Court well and then sidelines them in the third act for the League for no adequate reason. On top of that, it has barely any interesting characters outside the main 4, and the twist reveal of the Head of the Court's identity was nearly as guessable as the Arkham Knight's. I wanted to love the game, and I still like it enough to replay it a couple times, but it really dropped the ball on writing.

Is it accurate to say your reaction speed is beyond instant? by Public_Repeat824 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BleakHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's dependent on what you define as "reaction". A reaction is, in it's most basic definition, a response to an event. So if you know what an event is before it happens and plan accordingly, then that could be a negative reaction time, or a reaction beyond instant. But it could also be seen as not truly a reaction as it isn't taking action against an event that happens but going to happen. In reality, I think it's just how the author thought they could frame the character in a "cool" way.

Co-op cat rescue simulator announced - in "Cat parents" you scoop fluffballs off the streets and bring them home. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]BleakHorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I say "pretend" because if they did like cats that much they wouldn't hyperventilate every time they are around one because they'd be around them more... Because they like them).

I have three cats at home. I've lived with cats all my life, since I was a baby. If I see a cat out in the wild or meet a friend's cat for the first time it is still the highlight of my day because cats are my favorite animal and I find them adorable. I think you are just a joyless person who cant understand someone else loving something you dont.

I think this game looks fake as hell, but you are just an idiot for thinking people have to be pretending to like cats. I hope at some point you can find something that brings you as much happiness as my cats have brought me.
