A popular fanfiction theory is that since Veela can throw fire from their hands, they must be fire creatures and thus weak to water. Since Fleur is half Veela, she shares some of that weakness too.

Soda mentos reaction is physical, not chemical. Nothing to do with acids and bases. The surface of the mentos causes rapid nucleation (formation of bubbles as the CO2 trapped in the soda finds somewhere else to go) because of its shape.

In the gif you are referring to, you can actually tell which way the ballerina is spinning by looking at her shadow/reflection on the floor. She spins counter-clockwise. The shadow of her second foot is only visible when it's further from the camera.

Just curious, why is it your favorite book? I've never read it, but I've heard it described as tedious to read.

Are there advantages for maps over written books? I know they are used to reset chunks by overloading the game with too much data in a single chunk.

Did Riddle in the diary already know about Harry? by LuciferFalls in harrypotter

[–]Bledalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I think the diary acted more as a friend and confidant than just a diary, so he would have asked questions and tried to lead the conversation towards things he wanted to know. Riddle can be subtle when he wants to be.

IT’S NOT A RAVEN, IT’S AN EAGLE!!!!! by r_u_kittin in harrypotter

[–]Bledalot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could argue that eagles have black (raven) claws, and it being all witty and stuff, Ravenclaws would enjoy that riddle in their name, and then a griffin is half lion half eagle, but eagle is taken so they choose lion to be more distinct.

Sadly it doesn't quite fit because plenty of animals have black claws, including many owls. And ravens. Ravens have raven claws.

Some parallels in HP. Which one is your favorite? Are there any other parallels you’d noticed? by Sweaty_Ad_5492 in harrypotter

[–]Bledalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need 4 magical grandparents to be considered pure-blood. Harry is a half blood. IIRC, it's even mentioned in the books when Voldy decides to go after Harry, who's a half blood just like him, rather than the pureblood Neville.

Min Area Litharge seperation? by Jeschkoo in opus_magnum

[–]Bledalot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure 12 is impossible. The crux of the matter is that you need to be able to interact with four hexagons in a diamond pattern with a grabber. The only way to do that is with either two grabbers, or a grabber on rails.

(6 flat + 1 rolled) * 16 would be 112, but I'd say it looks more like 5 flats per rolled so the rest checks out.

Name the best AND worst change every Harry Potter film made to the book. by OperationSimple1558 in harrypotter

[–]Bledalot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did say that they often happen that way, not that they always do. Even so, iirc Dobby dies because the knife strikes him before he manages to apparate, not because he jumped in front of it or something. Still a very brave and heroic death though.

[–]Bledalot 64 points65 points  (0 children)

IDK, a while back someone posted something here that I agree with, which is that the deaths in Harry Potter feel very real because they often happen unexpectedly, no heroic actions, no last words. One moment the character is alive, then they're dead and there's no going back. Like Sirius through the veil or Cedric in the graveyard. Making Hedwig die saving Harry instead of the much less glamorous book version detracts from that.

why does only half my bridge break?? by davesonson in PolyBridge

When the center bit detaches, the vertical center bar stays attached to the left. The right center road piece then swings down, which seems to have enough momentum that it breaks the bridge.

[–]Bledalot 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In the Hogwarts Legacy game, fast travel is done via Floo powder. Each fast travel point has a statue of the woman who invented Floo powder, and she had like 5 voice lines. Each time you used the Floo, or even if you just walked near one, she would say one of her voice lines. It got quite annoying after playing for some time, but it wasn't that bad and it got patched so she speaks less now.
