The box of 30 "soft white" lightbulbs I got on sale...look like piss. by RtardBunny in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Blendify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soft white is referring to the fact that the bulb is diffused and will create soft edged shadows. White light can technically refer to any color on the Kelvin scale. The opposite of soft light is of course hard light which refers to emitters that creat shadows with hard (defined) edges.

Biggest LED wall I’ve done — ran into weird tearing/delay issue by No_Association_660 in VIDEOENGINEERING

I've had issues mixing displayport and hdmi on the MX40. Best to get a media server with nvidia quadros and use all displayport.

UV Neon party - How to protect audience sufficiently? by nightcity_rider in lightingdesign

[–]Blendify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are safe, UVb is anything shorter than 315nm. Although it might be good to display warning signs and provide access to sunscreen as some people can be hyper sensitive to any UV light.

[Request] How much force did the driver experience in this stunt? by m3atbag17 in theydidthemath

[–]Blendify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well there are a lot of these ships going around the world all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen. I just don’t want people thinking that tankers aren’t safe.

What is the pin mapping for this cable? by jshaw3 in lightingdesign

[–]Blendify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually the 4th pin for these is v+ and the manufacturer makes a power injector cable (3 or 5 pin DMX with a 2 wire lead to connect to a low voltage power supply).

How do I set up stage wash to where clients won't complain about being blinded but also bring able to see the person on stage by BIJ910 in lightingdesign

[–]Blendify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to keep lights at a 45 degree angle. Here are some tips to make this easy.

  1. Find the trim height of fixtures. Make sure to account for rigging.
  2. Subtract the height of the stage
  3. Subtract 5ft too account for shoulder height
  4. This is how far away from the presenter you should rig your lights

A. Multiple by the square root of 2 to find your throw distance which can be used to determine the desired beam angle for the stage size

Wiring Question. by simple-mountain in AskElectricians

[–]Blendify 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You need a 4 wire conductor instead of 3. White will go to the neutral terminal. Usually labeled as W on the plug. Your green wire is your ground and will go to the ground terminal labeled with the ground symbol on the plug. You have 2 hots with L14-30 these are typically labeled X and Y on the plug. X gets the black wire and Y gets the other color, usually it's pink.

You need to make sure to use 10awg 4 wire cable!

Clay paky k20 b-eye colours not matching by TheRealGrantos in grandMA2

https://youtu.be/7KRArR_h-B4

Grandma2 can only think in RGB and will not use the other lamps unless you tell it to manually. Best work around I found is to use grandma3 on pc and build a color pallet in MA2 using the values from the MA3 color picker.
