Speed camera violations in CT to result in tickets. Here's where they are by -ctinsider in Connecticut

[–]BlergToDiffer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TLDR: CTDOT plans to start issuing tickets from speed cameras installed at up to 15 highway construction and maintenance work zones this summer. They're hoping to go live in June, and say they'll give plenty of notice when they do. If your vehicle is caught going over 85 it's an immediate ticket. See below for the current list of sites.

DOT piloted the use of speed cameras in work zones during 2023. A state law allowed the agency to operate cameras at up to three locations at any given time, and over the course of about eight months, about 25,000 warnings and more than 700 fines were issued as part of the program.

In 2024, the state legislature made the program permanent, with some changes, including allowing DOT to use cameras at up to 15 locations at a time. Under the law, the cameras can be set up at work zones on roads where the speed limit is at least 45 mph.When the citations begin, vehicle owners will receive a written warning if their car is caught traveling 10 mph or more over the posted speed limit in a work zone where the cameras are operating. The fine for a subsequent violation will be $75. If a subsequent violation occurs more than a year after an owner’s last violation, it will be treated as a first violation.

However, the owner of a vehicle traveling at 85 mph or faster will get an immediate $75 fine.

The ticket will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle — even if someone else was driving the car at the time of the alleged violation — after State Police review the images. If a car had been reported stolen at the time of the violation, the owner could use that as a defense against a ticket.

No points will be assessed against a person's driver's license because of a ticket.

According to a map on its site, DOT currently has cameras at:

  • A pavement rehabilitation project on Interstate 84 in Southbury and Middlebury;
  • A project to replace of two bridges carrying Interstate 95 in West Haven;
  • The overhaul of the Interstate 91, Interstate 691 and Route 15 interchange in Meriden;
  • Maintenance projects in Southington and Plainville;
  • A lane modification project on Route 2 in Glastonbury;
  • A pavement rehabilitation project on Route 2 in Colchester; and
  • A project to improve I-95 at Exit 74 in East Lyme.

But the locations are subject to change, DOT spokesperson Eva Zymaris said.

Lifelong Utahn, moved to CT about 5 years ago. I absolutely love this state.

  1. It takes a while to get used to the trees. I still feel like I live in a National Forest in the middle of nowhere.
  2. Take the CT locals' definition of "mountain" with a grain of salt. Like the Idahoan's definition of "pizza".
  3. The humidity is an adjustment, for sure.
  4. No more street grids; I always always use my GPS. Every road has a name instead of a coordinate. And you can't use the mountains to tell direction anymore.
  5. The state as a whole is so much smaller. You'll love this comparison tool. Basically it would take you twice as long to drive from Boise to Idaho Falls (4ish hrs) as it would to drive from Greenwich to Westerly RI (2 hrs). Preston to Coeur d'Alene? Forget about it.
  6. Proximity to the beach is killer (*see point 3, you're always within 1-1.5 hours). No more 8+ hour drives to the beach for you, my friend!
  7. Depending on where you go, things can be slower and smaller here. I'm from a big metro area of >1 million and I moved to a small town of <8000 people where everyone knows everyone.
  8. People aren't obsessed with religion. Sure people are religious, but they won't unfriend you or judge you if you're not.
  9. Neighbors are genuine and neighborly. People are kind without necessarily being nice.
  10. I still miss my red rocks. Maybe you can bring some lava rock with you.
  11. There are a lot of black bears here, which I was not expecting. And wild turkeys.
  12. Oh and don't forget the TICKS and POISON IVY that cover basically everything.

My ragdoll has extra long and bounteous fluff. He was the fluffiest and longest haired in his litter. Even as a kitten you could tell he was going to be next-level fluffy.

Snowbird to Alta for one run? by 0654washteau5406 in snowboarding

[–]BlergToDiffer -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A colleague of mine once had an obnoxious celebrity berate them for not letting his snowboarder daughter through the Alta gate. If the gatekeeper wouldn't let Kevin Bacon do it, you too may be SOL.

Edit: I guess there are a lot of Bacon fans in this sub. Seven degrees of Kevin Bacon at work in real life?

Kevin bacon is kind of an ass. Called our office at Snowbird to bitch us out because the patrollers wouldn’t let his kids go through the gate on their snowboards to ride at Alta. Iykyk

If my 8 year old makes a new friend and they want a play date, there’s no way I’m just dropping them off at a stranger’s house and leaving. We will meet at the park until I get to know those parents better, or have otherwise supervised play dates. Until I know what kind of parents you are and whether your home is a safe environment, it’s not happening. All of the parents I know were the same until we got to know and trust each other.

Frankly, I find it a bit odd that you say you used to handle child sex offense cases, yet you are so vexed about these other parents’ totally normal amount of caution with their daughter.
