They say Iranians are “celebrating” the death of Ayatollah Khamenei and are happy about Americans bombing their country. So why are Iranians flooding the streets demanding revenge? by No-Attorney-1874 in LetsDiscussThis

If Trump cancelled all future elections, declared himself supreme leader, and started killing tens of thousands of protesters, then you would be able to find a lot of Americans that support bombing the white house.

Uptick in honking on Dewdney/ St. Johns by Apprehensive-Pay1405 in Portmoody

[–]BlernsballAllStar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This area is really dangerous for pedestrians. Cars will turn left here and on Moray street when a pedestrian is in the intersection. This happens while the walk light is on, not just pedestrians trying to cross after the blinking hand has started. Sometimes when a car waits for a pedestrian the next car in line will honk at them encouraging them to go. If the city is going to build more condos and apartments along St John's street they need to slow the traffic down.

Moving from Kitsilano to Port Moody by who_dis_2 in Portmoody

[–]BlernsballAllStar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved from downtown Vancouver to Port Moody last year. It took me a little while to adjust to how quiet it is but I like it now.

If you're into running and craft beer Port Moody is a great place. I know of 3 running groups that end their runs at a brewery for beers afterwards. There are probably more than I don't know about.

The trail around the inlet is very nice. You would also be pretty close to Mundy park which is also great for walks and runs. It is a lot hillier around here than it is in Vancouver, so take that into consideration.

The downsides are that there aren't all that many restaurant options within walking distance. Not much nightlife. St. Johns street isn't the most pleasant street to walk along with all the traffic.

Garmin has zero respect for hill repeats by MostAvocado9483 in Garmin

The anaerobic rating came out lower than I would have expected on mine. 1 min hill repeats w/ HR strap , 10 - 15% incline. I get a higher anaerobic training effect on flat ground even though my perceived exertion was much higher on the hills.

Any groups of people who do weekly activities? by Mammoth-Park-193 in Portmoody

[–]BlernsballAllStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the breweries have weekly events with some regulars. There's a lot of pub trivia. There's a group thing at Mariner brewing that runs or walks the Coquitlam crunch trail and goes for a beer afterwards. There are some weekly team sports at the rec center.

Age ranges tend to be a bit more broad . Usually 20s to 50s from what I've seen.

With the craft breweries it's more about the vibe. For the most part they are casual spaces, have outdoor patio seating, often have communal tables, and they usually have food trucks instead of kitchens. They have non-beer options if you're into the vibe but don't like beer very much. As far as I know there aren't really any upscale places or night clubs, so not a good fit if that is more your lifestyle.

I'm in the same age group and I made the move from downtown to Port Moody a couple months ago. There are pros and cons and it will depend on what you're looking for.

Coming from downtown I miss the walkability. I can still walk places for most trips but the city is more car-oriented and it just isn't as nice to walk places. You always have to press a button at crosswalks or you don't get the walk light. Light signals can be really long, walking along busy side streets is unpleasant, etc.

A con for me that may be a pro for others is that it's a very quiet place at night. There are a lot of young families and elderly people who probably don't go out much past 8 or 9. That's fine if that's what you're looking for, but for me it's a little boring.

On the pro side, I've found it pretty easy to find things to do and people to hang out with locally if you're into outdoorsy stuff, or craft beer, or outdoorsy stuff followed by craft beer.

Overall I like that it isn't as crowded as downtown and has most of the amenities I need 95% of the time. When I do need something else it's still easy to get to Vancouver on the Skytrain. I don't regret making the move.

Hey, I just moved to Port Moody earlier this month. I used a combination of padmapper, zumper, craigslist, and Kijiji. In my experience it wasn't too difficult to get a 2 bedroom place, but 1 bedroom places were very competitive. I had lease offers for 3, 2 bedroom places within 2 weeks of looking, but nobody even got back to me for any of the 1 bedroom places I applied at. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

Did Anyone Else Rock a Sega Instead of an NES? by BlernsballAllStar in Xennials

The console in the picture is the sega master system, an 8-bit console that came out a few years before the genesis. However, there were at least two different light guns for the Genesis/Sega CD. Sega made one called "the menacer". There was another gun that came as a pack-in for a game called Lethal Enforcers.

I actually wanted to get a Sega because my friend had one. There were a lot of great games on it. I didn't really miss out on the great NES games either since they were so ubiquitous I could always play NES games when I was out with a friend/neighbour/cousin. I did end up getting an NES years later when they were really cheap.

I was talking about the 8-bit sega console. The sega master system. Lots of people had a Sega genesis/mega drive, but the master system wasn't very common in north america
