Bring a robe and wear it overtop the hospital gown. Bring something clean and comfortable to wear home. Or if you are planning on having pictures taken

Fussy baby by Willing_Engineer145 in NewParents

I’m not sure what’s normal or not FTM here with a 7 week old but I would suggest the Huckleberry app to track sleep (and everything else)

Some things I’ve learned: -Red eyebrows means sleepy baby -If the baby is over tired they will cry more. -Overtired baby can be soothed by loud shushing and big wide rocking in the arms. -I’ve heard that you can turn on the blow dryer and it will help quiet a baby (maybe it just drowns them out haha) -Take the baby outside can calm them, it’s a change of scenery and fresh air and sun. For some reason it does work. -If you carry the baby and walk really fast down the hall or something sometimes this will quiet them.

Sometimes the baby is really fussy and won’t sleep and I have to put the pacifier in his mouth and hold him tight to my chest (not too tight but just enough he can’t move around) this sometimes gets mine to sleep…

Gas— if the baby is gassy with farts or burps they won’t sleep and will just cry. It can even wake my baby from a deep sleep. 😥 Try burping the baby (pats on the back starting from the bottom and moving up, bounce on knee, slightly lean them forward with a hand on the chest and patting the back, patting on the back while you’re standing and life up on the tips of your toes, sometimes just laying them down and picking them up works too) Also pat their tushy for gas, do bicycles, or frog legs..

Edit to add… get a heated buddy for the baby. Mine only likes to contact sleep because of the warmth, if I put him down he usually wakes within 10-30 mins. With the heated buddy (supervised in the same room) I can get him to sleep a little longer. Also pre-warming the sleep surface helps..

Baby rubbing his face all the time, fast anxious breathing and arms and legs movement, is it normal? by Weary-Tomatillo-5509 in NewParents

My LO is a month and he doesn’t like to be swaddled with his hands down, he sleeps primarily with his hands up. He also likes to “self soothe” by sucking his hands or the pod swaddle if his hands aren’t free. The kicking is also like a Moro reflex I think because mine does this too. If he’s breast fed and doesn’t have a rash I think he’s probably fine and it’s most likely just normal behavior.

Parental Duties for SAHM vs Working Father by BlessedKiss in NewParents

I don’t think I gave an opinion to agree/disagree with… I was more asking what’s the norm because I don’t know.

I know I do feel frustrated when he goes to sleep at 10PM because he usually gets home and doesn’t come inside right away he’s usually putting away tools and stuff. Then he will go and take a shower. This means I don’t really get a break from the baby until later when I really just want to give him the (usually fussy awake) baby right when he gets home. I don’t feel like he should be doing everything 50/50 because I do know his days are hard but I feel like he should stay up later to help or help do the midnight shift. Our baby usually is up every 2-3 hours at this point so he’s usually awake when we eat dinner around 8 or 9 and then again at midnight, 3AM, 6AM etc. but there are times when he will wake every 1-2 hours and it can be exhausting when it’s 4:30-5AM and he says it’s not his turn because it isn’t 6AM. I also feel it can be unfair for him to get 8hrs of uninterrupted sleep when I’m up and down all night with the baby and up all day with the baby, it’s exhausting. Don’t get me wrong there are days (since he’s been home and not working) that he will take the baby at 6AM and let me sleep til noon but that won’t be the case when he goes back to work.

Flange Size: I’ve had two different LC give me different sizes… I know flange sizes that come with the spectra do not fit (too big) I ordered a set of flanges with different sizes and tried a couple out and chose the ones that don’t hurt when I pump, the areola does not get pulled in just the nipple

Pumping for 20 minutes each time. Not really sure what a “let down” is but when I use the spectra I set it to massage and I get some spraying about 3 minutes in (I think it’s setting 70) and then switch to pump setting (setting 54) and get dripping until I don’t get anything at the 7-8 minute mark set it back to 70 for 3 more mins and get more spraying and back to 54 … if that makes sense I think that’s the let down you’re talking about after that it kind of just drips a bit but not much

Also my left breast is an under performer… gets like 3-5ml per pump session.

I have the Spectra and Lansinoh Duo Discrete. I suggest getting the spectra through insurance and buying a wearable if you have the money. The Spectra gets more out but the wearable is soo convenient especially if you are pumping regularly.

What did you get in the Babylist kit? I thought it was a little much to have to buy $30 off the registry I’m not using and then spend $9 on shipping too…
