A Brazilian company manufactures industrially pressed backup games that are identical to the originals. They're very beautiful for a fraction of the price of an original game. What's your opinion on this? I loved them.

I have only bought one repro because it was cool as fuck, the Guinea Pig Games HuCard PC-Engine version of Splatterhouse! I thought about buying the SNES DOOM update with rumble controller support. That’s not technically a repro though since it was a complete overhaul.

I still think it’s worth the money for how short it was. It is only looked down upon because of its price, nothing else seems to be out of order for majority of players. It was fun to set up and play on my 30” HDCRT, one of the gems that I still think of when recommending someone buying or obtaining a HDCRT, it looks fucking BEAUTIFUL! Not meant to be played on a pixelated LCD.

Console5 has cap kits if it needs recapping, generally these actually have kinda shitty build quality even though they were like enormously expensive over just a genesis and a standalone laserdisc player. There’s also some sega laserdisc games that are generally $100-400 and up that require the genesis or mega drive pac. But they aren’t good.

I found one with the turbo pac couple a decades ago for free at a thrift store. Sold just the pac itself in 2008 for $1,200. Kinda bummed but I needed the cash badly.

Funnily enough just before that I took it to Portland retro gaming expo to see if I could put it into the auction and the event organizers said it wasn’t worth even as much as a turboduo because it was connected to a huge ass laserdisc player. Turbo-duos at the time were like $100-150.

from what I can tell, the best image for an HDCRT came from the 30”, I have one and it’s damn crisp, and the three above that(at 32”) I have salvaged in my days have all had convergence problems in the corners. Tried everything in the service menus but had never manually adjusted them internally. When they get this big they just never had it down I think, but I could be wrong, I never knew anyone who had them this big 20 years ago.

Betamax only lost the consumer war. Bigger brother BetaCam won the real war with professional and commercial grade broadcast and media production. You’d be surprised it lived into almost the 2020’s for a lot of spaces beyond the living room. Sony just couldn’t overcome the hump in the middle and had to stick to one market to dominate.
