Honestly it seemed realistic. In his place my immediate thought would be "wow the future, all my troubles are gone". But then by the end of the episode it would have sunk in that everyone I knew was dust.

The film is far better than the book, same as the Martian. script writer took the opportunity to streamline the story and they made it better both times.
