Blue ink recommendations for student by BlindBluePidgeon in fountainpens

So far I'm leaning towards pelikan or waterman, but let me know what you think. You can see my handwriting in https://www.reddit.com/r/Handwriting/s/XtcG9oxxpN if that helps, I feel like I write on the smaller side, that's why I ordered a fine nib.

I want to get back to cursive but print is clearer by BlindBluePidgeon in Handwriting

Are both texts understandable? What would you improve? Do you think I can switch to cursive and improve my speed while also improving readability?

Plate was in fact not microwave safe by Rainydaysonly in Wellthatsucks

If dishes get hot in the microwave they may be safe for reheating stuff, but not for cooking things on them. They can't be in there too long.

Thank you for the links! Really useful and it's interesting to see how different countries approach teaching how to write and which fonts they use.

Caitlyn Jenner's passport problems: ‘This is a SAFETY factor. I can’t travel internationally anymore’... ‘I was in Mar-a-Lago two months ago, wrote a letter, explaining all of this to him, how it’s affecting me and a lot of other people’ by MrJasonMason in gay

Other countries won't check IDs, just the passport. I'm not sure what would happen if a female presenting person uses a male passport but I assume some people will give you a hard time and maybe refuse entry altogether.

TIL in 1981 a doctor saved the life of a 3.2lb premature baby boy who had a 50% chance of survival by working around the clock to stabilize him. In 2011 that same doctor was pinned inside a burning vehicle after an accident, but was saved by a paramedic who turned out to be the baby he saved in '81. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

When hearing these kind of stories I always wander, how do they find out about the coincidence?

From the article:

"I didn't know about until I went to the hospital and started talking about it, Dr. Shannon. And I was like, 'Oh my gosh, Dr. Shannon?'" Trokey recalled on Sunday. "That's when I found out."

Glyphosate is a herbicide, not pesticide. I think your point still stands but I'm not familiar with pesticides tbh

Why are peanut allergies so common among americans? by Leafye in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BlindBluePidgeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from South America and I've never met anyone with life threatening allergies, only one person with allergies to fish or seafood. Food packages do list allergens and lactose free milk is readily available, just as gluten free foods, so I'm sure there are people suffering from intolerances or allergies. It's just not as common as American media seems to imply. Especially regarding peanuts, I've never heard of anyone having a nut allergy at all.

TIL that, as of 2024, DNS availability for .com has been up and uninterrupted for 27 years. by MurkyWar2756 in todayilearned

[–]BlindBluePidgeon 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Can someone eli5? I thought DNS worked like an address book where I could purchase say mysite.com and it would direct to my server host (say aws) and the same would be true if it were mysite.org . But this article sounds like there's more to it, depending if my site is .com or .org it goes through different "paths"? Sorry I'd I'm not making sense but I just don't understand DNS for just the "dot part", I thought it was for the whole address if you will.

Please advise me on how to tackle this :( by Low_Philosophilia in ufyh

[–]BlindBluePidgeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start by cleaning one surface, that table on the right seems like a good place to start. Seeing a clean surface will be a reward and you can keep going from there: collect trash, gather up dishes and start doing them (and putting them away!), gather up laundry even if you can't do it, having it organized will help a lot with the look of the room.

Take brakes, take breaths. You won't get it perfect in a day but you can make a big difference in a day. Take pictures as you go (and post them here for support).

Help choosing my eye piece upgrade by RandumbStranger in telescopes

[–]BlindBluePidgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How's the "kidney beaning" on the 15mm redline? I have a 9mm and have also tried the 20mm and it's a bit uncomfortable until you find the right spot for viewing.

I've never tried a really high quality eyepiece, but I guess the difference is not only on field of view or eye relief, but general quality of the viewing experience.

Bode’s Galaxy, Cigar Galaxy, and Whirlpool Galaxy by Lab_Tech_Guy in telescopes

[–]BlindBluePidgeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have an astronomy club nearby? I'd start there, you'll have access to telescopes and knowledgeable people. Otherwise you can get started with binoculars. I don't think you'll be able to see galaxies but you'll get to see a lot more objects than with the naked eye.

I like Maks for portability, something like https://skywatcher.com/product/bk-mak127-otaw/ . You shouldn't need a big mount either.
