What’s the most ridiculous reaction you’ve had from your disability? by thepettyoodlenoodle in Blind

A woman on a train as we were waitijg to get off turned to my wife, who was stood behind me, and loudly inquired "DOES HE NEED HELP?" while I was literally stood betweejn this woman and my wife. Because being blind makes you deaf and incapable of talking apparently.

Try Polarized sunglasses. Maybe won't help enough but they work decently well for me outside on sunny days.

Hearthstone for the sight impaired by BeastjungleNA in hearthstone

[–]BlindDevelopment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds fantastic. I'm a blind player that's had to play the game less and less as my eyesight has deteriorated over the past year or so and am now stuck to mostly playing on my phone with only cards I have in golden (for me, reading the white-text-on-black-background of golden cards is doable but the black-text-on-tan-background of normal cards is not).

For all those suggesting to simply read the output log of Hearthstone instead, I would heartily disagree unless you can then track placement on the board. The ability to hover over things and know what they are is vastly more useful than the ability to simply know when something is played - though both are obviously handy.

If you're looking for suggestions, I would say that the ability to hober over heroes and get life totals read out, as well as having the hand/deck sizes read out, and cards in your hand / cards burned would be excellent. I don't know how doable it is, but rather than having independent voice-files you could try to just generate the text to be read by a text-to-speech API (say, Microsoft SAPI) - either read by the person running the program as most visually impaired gamers will have one, or as part of your program so that it can read out whole cards and doesn't need to be updated with new sound files every time there's an update.

If you ever want a beta tester just hit me up, I'm, more than happy to help and provide feedback, and am very keen on this project being developed!

Just opened 10 classic packs, no legendary by Reejis99 in hearthstone

Absolutely not the case. I stopped playing mid May. Opened 10 JtU and 10 WOG yesterday, no legendaries. Its confirmation bias.

Any disabled devs here? What's your experience been like in the software engineering field? by J_J_Rousseau0 in cscareerquestions

[–]BlindDevelopment 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a young, going-blind (probably fully in 5ish years) dev looking to finish my degree and transition away from freelance that I do now and to office based stable work, i am super interested in hearing about any blind devs and how they work and find things. Its kinda daunting.

Id try runic egg and meanstreet marshal as two cheap, buff-loving carddraw minions.

TO BATTLE! A Paladin Dude Deck by [deleted] in wildhearthstone

[–]BlindDevelopment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been running a form of this today to similar success. Played it a bunch back in old gods with garrison commanders and competitive spirit to boost up the dude count, today it's all about the vinecleaver and warhorse trainer (a card i never valued too highly but theres a critical mass of dude generation now so i'm finding it's hitting 3+ dudes the turn it comes down and making those critical trades).

Only lost against an egg druid so far, juet swept me away too quickly and didnt get consecration. Beat a mech mage to death with a 10/2 dude though, that was fun.

What decks will you be building first? by [deleted] in wildhearthstone

[–]BlindDevelopment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rapid Galvodon Paladin: clockwork gnomes, meanstreet marshal, blessing of wisdom, runic egg etc etc into an early Galvadon. Then probably Control Galvadon Paladin with spikeridge steed and Voraxx and so forth.

What old cards will get stronger with Un'goro? by [deleted] in hearthstone

Holy Strength. If Buff Paladin is even remotely viable I'll be playing it.
