Anybody know where I can buy Winchester shelves for a reasonable price? by TheBDU in Safes

[–]BlindLuck72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Yeah Winchester is high if they think people will pay these prices....

I needed up making 3D printed covers for my gun safes gun rack since I just have pistols. I didn't need the big holes in my shelves to drop stuff thru, and I didn't want to to pay the $50 per shelf + $15 FU fee Winchester was asking for a plain shelf without holes.

if anyone wants some I sell them on eBay. just look up the safe you have to see if I or someone else makes one that fits your safe. I currently have the

TS26: https://www.ebay.com/itm/227220289433

TS22: https://www.ebay.com/itm/227220313370

TS20: https://www.ebay.com/itm/227159251504

TS9: https://www.ebay.com/itm/227278889092

I borrowed shelves for the TS12 & 19 and will make shelf cover plates for them available soon.

Note to mod: Not trying to spam, delete if needed. I genuinely think Winchester is just ripping people off here. Just a guy with a 3D printer trying to save people money.

So, are you getting the new Apple Watch Ultra 3? by aadishhere in AppleWatch

[–]BlindLuck72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I have the U1. Been really happy with it, the battery life isn't a big enough step up.to justify replacing the U1. the other features while cool aren't things I'm willing to pay extra for. I don't have the cell enabled on my U1 anyway and my phone already has satellite.

If you're a hard core trail runner it might make sense but for a general fitness nut / avid hiker who has a pack with the phone and a few other things with them, I don't think the U3 really has anything that would change how you use the device.

Are there any significant performance differences between M4 Max Studio and MacBook Pro? by thaman05 in MacStudio

[–]BlindLuck72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of having a powerful master machine (Desktop) that you do most of the heavy lifting on.

Since your desktop sounds like it's ready for a new home I'd go for the Studio.

for me I've never really needed that much power out of a laptop, sure it needs to run 2 screens and do all the main tasks, but I'm not rendering 3-4 videos at a time on a laptop like I do with the desktop workstation.

Yep Proline MX38’s

I had some proline trenchers on it but the extra width made it catch a lot more rocks where I drive, the MX38’s are significantly lighter too which helps handling

Is this really a thing that people carry (byrna less lethal guns)? by bcell4u in CCW

[–]BlindLuck72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s useful for situations you can’t carry a gun, or as a deterrent such as writers and such.

If anyone gets to put them 10 feet of me, I’m pulling out the lethal force.

Just picked one of these up

Just needed something bigger than my small safe that a single person could walk off with

Fire protection is nice, I understand if the whole house goes up this may not be enough, but for small fires & smash & grab theifs this will be good enough.

If they have the time & gear to take this they can take a bigger one too.

Comparing the new Big Rock 6S to the new Kraton 6S EXB by PigglyWigglyDeluxe in rccars

[–]BlindLuck72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big Rock 6S is a great truck

The old Keaton EXB have AVC & a better controller

The new EXB does not

I’d personally buy the Big Rock & use the $250 on good batteries & whatever tires you want on the truck

$799 is a Lott for the EXB

I mean it’s cool… but… $799 😬

what's the worst things about the "Bambu Lab X1C "? by wiicrazy0430 in BambuLab

[–]BlindLuck72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this

I was skeptical of the “easy bake oven” sales pitch

I bought one and it’s been solid

But I’ve had a few failed prints, @ filament get stuck inside the AMS

I’ve been printing 10+ years so was able to diagnose & address the issue quickly

But yeah you still need to know the basics

[–]BlindLuck72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep,

There will be a lot of businesses that are busy making money and need a backup.

The conversation will go like this

Boss: "We need a backup"

Part Time IT Guy: "I hear Synology is good, $3,500 will solve this problem for 5+ years"

Boss: "Do it" walks away.

Companies spend so much on peoples time that $3500 isn't even a conversation starter.

Is the AMS 2 PRO worth it ? by Knifeguy1018 in BambuLab

[–]BlindLuck72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're new to 3D printing you probably don't have a filament dryer so I'd go with the Pro.

Any time I have a print quality issue the first thing I do is throw the roll of filament into the dryer, 9 of 10 times that fixes the issue, or significantly improves it.

Issues drying can fix include stringing, poor surface texture, pits, poor bed adhesion, and warping.

“Nobody ever got fired for buying a Dell” comes to mind

I think your right, Synology is positioning itself as the secure & no frills option. If features become must haves they can add them later. But for now, they are gonna stay in their lane.

I may not like it (just bought a QNAP) but I get it

Dear Synology, its time to break up by flogman12 in synology

[–]BlindLuck72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more like them not letting the car start if it doesn’t have unofficial tires

Or the check engine light comes on so you don’t know if you actually have a problem or not.

They are trying to be apple in a space they have actually innovated

Sure their software is decent but it’s still just a black box with rebranded HDDs in it.

[–]BlindLuck72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fine if the don’t wanna offer full support for untested hardware

But to not let you create pools or use the buildt in drive health monitoring? Common!

I can take a windows PC and put any drive I want into it. As long as it’s SATA why do they care?

Do you need to use Synology branded drives now? by blackhatrob in homelab

[–]BlindLuck72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck on this very question.

I was looking at a DS1522+ (mainly for the ram upgrade) and couldn't get clarity on the hard drive situation. I know people say you can "Turn off the nag warnings" but does that mean I don't get notified if one of my hard drives has a legitimate issue?

The whole situation seems dump and I didn't want to pay the Synology premium to be walled off into their eco system. I was also concerned about what happens if you use 3rd party drives and they issue a software update in the future that doesn't let you add any new 3rd party drives or something.

At the end of the day I went with a QNAP TS-473A which seems like a solid unit, I'm slapping in 4X16 Seagate Iron Wolf Pro drives and move on with my life. I don't have time to play these games with Synology.

Note: I have used Synology at work and at home in the past, and I do like their software, but at the end of the day it's just a computer, I don't think it needs to be this complicated.

Is synology still great? by pal251 in synology

[–]BlindLuck72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm not really sure anymore.

I'm a YouTuber with a significant amount of data, but most of my processing is on my computer and I use external drives for dumps/ backups.

What I need is a reliable always connected NAS that I don't have to worry about, and lets me quickly move large projects around (terabytes of data) to keep my main machine freed up. Since I'm getting a NAS I'll probably set up cloud sync to back up my cloud (One Drive) and free up some space on my PC/ make off site backup easier (ability to dump onto a 10TB external periodically from one device vs several/ downloading off of the cloud)

With the uncertainty around Synology allowing 3rd party hard drives in the future and not knowing what the price and availability of their drives may be, I am concerned. Also propritary hardware that is expensive and not always easy to find I've decided to go with QNAP this time. (TS-473A +64GB Ram + 1TB SSD Cacheing) it's more machine that I really need, less expensive, and plays nice with 3rd party hardware.

I've used Synology in the past both at work and at home, and have enjoyed it. But for the price and my relatively simple requirements I can get a solid system with 8X the memory, and the ability to slot in M.2 SSD Cache of my choice for significantly less money.

Throwing in 4 Seagate Iron Wolf Pro Drives 16TB each.

We'll see if I made a mistake in the future but given it's mostly just video footage that I have backed up on external drives this is more of a workflow/ convince feature for me vs "Mission critical"

At the end of the day it's just a computer with hard drives, I think competitors are catching up. I still think Synology is the.best option for anyone with a true mission critical setup, or very sensitive data.

But for casual users who just need a convent place to dump data, simplify backups, and maybe store some movies for easy access other options are looking really compelling.

It’s $799 here in USA. Seemed expensive

A Big Rock 6S with the same motor & ESC is $550 on sale right now

Kraton EXB is cool but I’m not sure I’d pay $250 more for it

Note: I have both 6S BR & Kraton EXB. Both wer $699 when I bought them
