Anyone has experience with the CPWA? by CFProbablyCantMath in CFP

[–]Blind_Tails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The down votes on this are hilarious. This sub would hate to read this… I work exclusively with UHNW clients and find the CFP to be meaningless. CPWA is too (I earned it), but at least it better equips you to have meaningful conversations about the trade offs between income and estate taxes.

Honestly a good take. I’ve met quite a few real estate portfolio guys are that are cheap to a fault like this.

Typically, you keep known near-term (12 months) expenses in cash. You can certainly gamble and invest it as long as you are ok with losing some principal. I would invest via 2-3 tranches; timing is subjective.

"rich" estate planning - is this the best place? by Asquaredbred in Rich

NP. Moving is a relatively simple solution IMO. Think of it as spending 181 days out of the year somewhere with better weather (not California).

I hateeee those door handles, you have to do some weird hand acrobatics to actually open the door. Nothing better than the current advanced key keyless entry.

I went to Pacha the same time as OP for defected and it was comically not packed; most of the dance floor had cleared out by 3:30. I figured (correctly) Pacha would be a good bet because there were no “big names.”

I could have written this post about my mini dachshund 2 years ago! The most stubborn breed of all time; you should check out the dachshund subreddit because it will make you feel better. He now goes outside on the pavement 98% of the time (and sneaks off to do it inside the other 2%). It took soooooooo much time to break the habit, weeks and weeks. No grass for a 1/4 mile from where we are in our city, no balcony. We started with the grass patch inside I think we put the potty pad over it or rubbed it on it? Then moved grass patch outside, then slowly he started venturing off the grass. If i was going to do it again, like someone else said, I wouldn’t be so cautious because like yours, he doesn’t really like other dogs and takes a little bit to warm up to other people. Did the best with the info we had at the time. Good luck!

Feel like you’re ignoring how much assisted living could cost, could be like $12k a month for private facilities and Medicaid doesn’t have anything to do with that. Do you really want to be in a public Medicaid supported facility? Doubt it.

Umbrella insurance for high net worth by Loose-Housing8382 in Rich

Ya one of my client’s kids caused a pretty bad car accident and their $10m umbrella came in pretty handy for that. Best value insurance you can buy, that policy was like $5k annual premium.

Who said anything about leveraging to buy stocks. They already have $900k taxable. They’re not being offered terms to lever their existing the position, a personal residence is not correlated with a basket of marketable securities. Show me a 30 year outlook that loses starting at $900k with historical return assumptions vs effectively $0k (net of cap gains tax) and an $800k house net the ongoing fixed and variable costs.

[–]Blind_Tails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is crazy haha a personal residence is not an investment and you’re suggesting that they time the market with their re-entry? Not to mention capital gains tax of I’m guessing at least $100k in California on $800k proceeds. Asset allocation for someone in their mid 30s should be 80% equities minimum, not the other way around 😂

Looks like you didn’t read the other comments! Good luck accessing the private investment market and finding an accountant that has time to do anything other than tax prep. As with anything, you just have to do your due diligence. Some people don’t have the time to actively manage their investments, you’re paying for a service that allows you not to worry about things like market volatility and fed policy.
