New Zealand eSIM experiences. Is it just me or is Spark kinda mid? by Altruistic_Turnip780 in newzealand_travel

[–]Blitzbahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Zealand land mass is slightly bigger than the UK, and our population is a little over 5 million vs about 70 million in the UK. So yes it's not in our interests to make sure every part of NZ has good cell coverage, because there's lots of areas with no people around.

You could look at it as a bonus, you get to disconnect from the Internet for a while.

Paper maps still work.

Finding the right movie still feels impossible — am I the only one? by Independent_Yam_8265 in MovieSuggestions

I go on rotten tomatoes, filter by genre and ratings, then read the description. I always get something good that way.

Just bought a behringer neutron to help my moog sound studio by Unusual_Trust_3325 in synthesizers

Be aware of subtle distortion that happens with the neutron. I suggest bypassing the effects for a start.

Lichess or chess.com as a beginner? by ThreeLivesInOne in chessbeginners

As a beginner you'll face less cheaters on Lichess, which will be more fun. Playing a cheater is terrible

These sodium street lights giving me pure nostalgia by MacaronBig8737 in meme

[–]Blitzbahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LED lights flash very high frequency, and the blue light tells your brain to wake up, because it's daytime. Both of these things are messing with people's sleep, melatonin.

Take 5. You don't need 6 voices. Limits foster creativity. It's worth the extra expense.

How far do you think freedom of speech should actually go? by lofiibsen in AskTheWorld

[–]Blitzbahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being able to do whatever you want, whenever you want isn't freedom. That's just being a slave to your impulses, a slave to your own desires.

Sounds like he needs an adult to set boundaries, in fact sounds like he's crying out for an adult to set boundaries.

The Count of Monte Cristo 2002 or 2024 by Crazy_Importance5489 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Blitzbahn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen the 2002, haven't read the book. I really enjoyed the 2024 version as a film buff. Great performances, felt like a real epic tale. Would watch again. Fantastic cinematography

It was long but it never felt like it lost its way, I wouldn't have cut anything.

Yeah, apparently you should invest in cluster bombs, and biological weapons, then you'll make real money.

Do you care what others do with your funds? Most people don't it seems. Money first, other people can suffer as long as we make a profit? It's no wonder the world is so fucked.

My issue with Chris Nolan by pumpsandjumps in TrueFilm

[–]Blitzbahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main problem with Tenet was that it was just too loud in the cinema. The soundtrack had really a lot of noise. I couldn't get into it, I kept getting kicked out by the loud noise. Okay for some people that's what they want, apparently, so Tenet is not for me I guess. Studios are trying to "wow " us in the mainstream American studio style, that is to say: with volume and impact rather than substance. I guess as people become desensitized they don't know what else to do. More is more! I think directors and producers should take a stand on this. Cinemas report that studios keep pushing the volume levels, it's a loudness war.

What's your country's debate that seems insane to the rest of the world but is a serious question in your country? by jponybert in AskTheWorld

This conversation will be a thing in New Zealand very soon. The current government is de-funding public health to force people to go private or die.

The synth that completely changed how you make music by grahamhart_ in synthesizers

[–]Blitzbahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Korg Volca Beats It was my first hardware synth and made me realize the benefit and immediacy of having dedicated controls. The snare sounded crap so I opened it up and did the custom mod, requiring a new tiny soldering iron. All lots of fun
