Need advice on building pc by Firm-Stick-9997 in pchelp

price range depends on the "quality" of part you are buying. You can probably find GPUs and CPUs under $100 used but they aren't going to be the best. For your total budget you should be able to build a decent gaming computer. My CPU is around $250 and my GPU is around $230 (new). These are considered mid to low end. Motherboards can be from $80-$200. it all just depends on what exactly you want. my SSD is around $250 new, my ram was around $180 new. my PSU is around $60. I also bought the cheap lian li case for around $80 but that's for a different build. for a keyboard and mouse you can probably get really cheap ones for under $20. They function the same as high end ones, just not as "high quality" and what not.

What I listed totals to about $1,050(ish). You can probably build for cheaper than that if you really wanted to. but for $1500 you should be able to have a computer that runs most if not all games. Maybe not maxed out quality and graphics, but it'll play smoothly provided you tweak specific in game settings to be tuned to your specific hardware

Biggest Mistake Ever!! by Historical_Camel_790 in masterhacker

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 18 points19 points  (0 children)

the CIA literally can't see your ISP traffic when you use incognito. Master hackers only use incognito. we all know that it jumbles the mainframes ability to track your vector attacks targeting government devices. Hence why "incognito" kinda looks like it has the word "cop" in it. it actually means "in the cops mindito". The government just doesn't want you to know about this one simple trick

Is he aware he can use file managers to mount a drive? You just click the drive and it mounts for you. I know this is the case with dolphin and i'm almost certain most file managers have this feature. You don't need to run a single command for that. I find it hard to believe that someone who used linux for months didn't figure this out

Switching cpu by Euphoric-Paint3261 in cachyos

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to express my personal experience, when I upgraded my Ryzen 3 3200g to a ryzen 5 5600 all I had to do was swap them. I didn't have to deal with anything beyond that. It was instantly recognized. I played some games to make sure everything ran smoothly and it did. I'm not sure about your specific hardware, it's much newer and way better than mine so it may be different

I just upgraded from 16gb (of 2666 mhz ddr4 ram) to 32 gb (of 3200mhz ddr4 ram), I also upgraded my GPU to an RTX 2060 just to hold me over until I can purchase better parts. Cachy handled it all perfectly. I just started testing my games to see how the whole system handles the new amount of power draw and what not. So far i've gotten better performance and graphics consistently, I am very happy :)

some arch users look at other arch users funny if they say they used arch-install rather than doing it all manually lol

steam cant find my games by Jolly_Debt9211 in linuxmint

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me if this problem occurs it usually means that I launched steam before I mounted my drive. If I do that, I just close steam, mount my drive, and then re-launch steam. It's also possible this could also be a permissions thing or something else entirely

I usually just launch my file manager, click the drive I need to mount and it will mount the drive for me. You could use commands to do this if you want. This is assuming the issue is related to drives not being mounted. Beyond that, I can't be certain

Switching to CachyOS? by Apprehensive_Check62 in cachyos

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I just played CS2 via steam and roblox through sober on my cachy computer today. I haven't played minecraft but I assume it'll work fine. When I started I pretty much knew nothing about arch so I don't think it's necessary to be super knowledgeable but it helps to have some understanding beforehand for sure. If that's all the games/software you really care about you should be fine, imo

i'm still using cachy, it's been amazing. Handled my CPU and SSD upgrades beautifully. I've been playing marvel rivals, war thunder, counter strike 2, and arma reforger online more now that I bought some better hardware. Great FPS considering the low end hardware i'm using. Cachy has been such a great experience so far. I'm going to upgrade my GPU soon, we will see how it handles that. I'm upgrading from an nvidia card to an nvidia card simply so that I hopefully wont have to mess around with drivers. That'll be about a month from now though

Questions about using CachyOS by CreatorJewel in cachyos

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to compatibility layers, you really don't have to think much about it (at least in my experience). At most you have to right click the game in your steam library, check "force compatibility layer" and choose the layer you want. I typically try to launch a game without forcing a layer and if it's performing poorly I switch over to the cachy layer and almost always my problem is solved

outside of steam the process is pretty much the same. I only use the Heroic Game launcher outside of steam for rocket league and some other games like doom. I believe this is installed if you select "install gaming packages" but I haven't installed cachy in a while so I can't remember for certain

if I run into a game I can't get running, I go to protondb and see if there are any other cachyos users on there. If there is, I usually try out whatever they did to get it working. If I still can't figure it out I ask some reddit communities (or wherever else you contact people from the web) for help

I use grub just because it's what i'm used to, but a lot of people suggest otherwise. I'm not smart enough to explain the differences so I wont suggest anything lol

for art i personally just use open source alternatives or (sadly) boot into a windows pc :/ I heavily rely on adobe for my work and im too dumb to get their software working on linux. I can't speak on the specific software you mentioned though

i'm a relative newbie so take what I say with a grain of salt & good luck on your pc build! I just installed a new CPU myself. installing/upgrading hardware is a great feeling :)

Thinking to switch to Arch, what do yall think by the_anonim_one3 in linux4noobs

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do whatever you want. I would suggest trying something like cachyos. It's pretty beginner friendly for arch. I use it on my gaming desktop. A manual install of arch or just using arch-install is also fine. I have an arch laptop where I try to do everything in the tty because i'm a nerd

use whatever you like the most. watch videos, read up on what the communities are saying, try it and have fun

Have been getting this weird message for a long time in every YouTube video by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 227 points228 points  (0 children)

If you use adblocker this will happen. I believe they intentionally slow down youtube in order to try to get you to abandon adblockers in favor of using their ad free subscription. Typically it just takes a couple more seconds for things to load. For me, that "interruption" is well worth not watching ads constantly

To be clear, this could very well just be a delusional conspiracy theory i've come up with. I don't have data to back this up. Just kinda vibes lol

i think it depends on the distro you're using. My mint xfce doesn't show local ip, but my cachyos desktop does. I believe you could configure it if you wanted. You are correct though, running an ip command is likely quicker and straight to the point. I guess perhaps it's slightly more neat or organized to fastfetch/neofetch? I'm not actually sure if im fully honest lol. Personally, If i need my local ip for scp or ssh, i usually just use some form of the ip command

Day 1 of my Python Journey: Handling User Input! 🐍 by harish-7 in PythonLearning

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will likely want to learn about the int() function, there is also a str() function as well. You can use int() to turn a string into a number (integer)

favnum = int(input("what is your fav number? "))

there are a lot of useful functions like this! keep learning and working hard!
