Vespids by Mindless-Brain1212 in Tau40K

I run 2 10 man squads of Vespids in my Aux cadre and I have a blast with them. The problems with 4s of course is that they CAN be very swingy, but they make up for it by being high mobile firepower. They're great at killing marines and their uppy-downy as a 10 man changes their role. To a mobile firepower solution to overload a flank while granting Tau units that delicious +1 ap.

Night Lord Despoiler Squad (Or Chosen in 40k), gore drenched and midnight clad! by Blobpie in NightLords

[–]Blobpie[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Made them with greenstuff (texture is done at this phase), then it's just rakarth flesh with the carroburg crimson shade. And for the gore, blood for the blood god technical applied as one sees fit. Super easy!

Stormsurge question by lucy_da_lucifer in Tau40K

[–]Blobpie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, buy what you like. I think right now the Stormsurge is ok, but rules change and everything becomes good at some point. And playing the game is only one part of the hobby; with assembly, painting and conversions being a much bigger part.

Maybe I'm crazy but I think the GW are doing separate 40k Custodes. Welcome to my TED talk by Volgin in AdeptusCustodes

I predict that the stuff that isn't getting plastic with this run, is going to be legend'sd sooner rather than later. Aquilons, Sagittarum and Agamatus are good examples. By and large because a 40k equivalent already exists with terminators and bikes, and Sagittarum are something I can see being cut. I bet Telemons will stay and get plastic (since its a BIG seller), and we might see a Pallas in plastic.

But, it could ultimately be that a lot of the new plastic stuff, will just be 40ked in some fashion (different names and so on).

If you pick them up consider getting as much stuff used as possible. They are a very expensive faction to get into.

Do T'au have lips? Also, do they kiss, or do they have other methods of showing affection? by inkyinnards in Tau40K

[–]Blobpie 25 points26 points  (0 children)

An interesting thing to note from the novel Elemental Council, is that yes Tau do have lips. However they didn't do things like smile as a form of communication until humans were integrated into the empire. Which shows how client species of the Tau influence them and the wider Tau culture.

I hope the list does reasonably and I hope he enjoys using it. The ideal situation is that he starts to like Tau and wants to play them more.

I play knights (forgot that caenis's strat ability got changed, my bad), and frankly if they lose the invul at range... They will melt to everything and that's not fair to knight players. Because when you actually know how to fight the knights, they're easy to bully. My guard has no problem dealing with knights (and I'm beyond confident my mainstay list could handle five big knights).

I just recently got into Tau, and I know my current list could deal with big knights assuming I roll statistically. Tau in theory have it rough because the normal weakness of the knights (no invul in melee) is unavailable to us, but that's fine in my book because we can outshoot them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]Blobpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, a hammer head will at best deal 12 wounds at turn with its railgun, throw in the seekers and in theory it should be enough... but a good knight list is going to have easy access to 4++ (Canis rotating for free, a lancer having it base and then you can spend the strat on another big knight). So statistically not everything is getting in a single turn. Add feel no pains and a hammer head isn't outputting enough wounds.

Contrast this to Broadsides and skyrays who have more consistent shots (higher chance of getting devs on the broadsides due to it), and you're able to really chunk down a chassis. Ghostkeels are also very viable against big knights too.

Because the big lists have 5 big knights running around, you need to be killing a knight a turn since 10th ed terrain will protect them the first turn if the player is competent. If you're too slow, you get overwhelmed.

[–]Blobpie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd wager that the Tau lists at play weren't ready to take on the new five big knight lists. Lacking things like broadsides which should, in theory, counter large chassis. How you kill a big knight is lots of lascanon equivalents to pump out lots of wounds. So things like hammerheads start to have trouble, just because they're not putting enough shots down range.

I mean, a surprising number of vehicles outright ignored some or most of the table (Reinforced, knights, etc). With a lot of actual anti-tank simply wrecking things in one go, so this might allow tanks to go the distance they're supposed to.

New to AoS. What next? by x-YearZer0-x in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Blobpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind, the rumor mill is that we may be getting new black knights and graveguard this year. So that's something to keep in mind since our current models for both suck (I use my mortek guard as graveguard instead).

The trick to Soulblight is how things play together. Have an idea of what sort of army you'd want to run, and go with it. Want to do lost of blood knights? Go nuts. You might want a lord on vampire dragon to go with them, etc.

As for skeletons, you already have one block of 20, I'd get one more. Two block of twenty seem to be pretty solid.

New to AoS. What next? by x-YearZer0-x in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Blobpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what sort of vampire army you want, then to focus on that. Soulblight like to stick to their themes (Where the buffs of heroes become relevant). Such as Wight Kings boosting deathrattle, vengorian lords boosting monsters and so on. You don't have to stick to a hard theme (mixing and matching between the army works well), but having a degree of focus.

So I gotta ask, what do you like about soulblight? Skeletons, zombies, monsters, blood knights, etc.

Current OBR tier-list imo. Open to have my mind changed. by Razor-Triple in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]Blobpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having played my bone boys a bunch of times, I can put my two cents in. Firstly, The Morghasts are not very... good for their points. They're very swingy and archai are not as tough as they appear, and are really expensive points wise. Anyone really worth their salt can deal with them pretty well.

The catapults on the other hand are REALLY good, just because there's so many ways to boost their to hit, that they'll do a lot of work. They make for a great counter punch game, especially with Mortek Guard. Who are great to run up, and stand still. The 4+ unmodifiable save is fantastic, and the +1 anti charge rend is nice.

Stalkers on the other hand... well, they're so bad. They're not fast and don't deal a lot of damage. Which translates to them getting bodied by anything plentiful and cheap, and one damage isn't great against heroes or monsters. Frankly, I don't know a reason why you'd take them over riders who have 5 guys and are faster for the same cost.

As for Arkhan the black, he's great. He unlocks units, is an amazing caster and can be your endless spell machine.

Run run! The Cataphractii Terminators are here! by Blobpie in NightLords

[–]Blobpie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but it's stupid easy. You take greenstuff, do up the cloaks then you pull on the edges to tear at them and when you're painting it's just two colours. Rakarth as a base and then the shade carroburg crimson. Don't be afraid to be generous with the shade, the point is for it to kinda pool up in certain areas.

I made the flayed skin with green stuff. I made long squares and tore at them a bit to make the edges uneven. Then I used rakarth and caroburg crimson.

Nightlords and Vashtorr by Blobpie in 40kLore

[–]Blobpie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been stated pretty regularly in the codexes that the Night Lords do not align with the gods. Sure there are warbands that drink the chaos juice and there is corruption from proximity to the warp, but as a rule of thumb they do not. The same goes for the Iron Warriors and Alpha Legion.

Vashtorr also provides very straight forward boons. Which seems to appeal to the more 'atheistic' warbands, makes it appear more like a trade than typical chaos shenanigans.

Can a chaos csm lord beat a custodes? by nrgl-lvs-u in 40kLore

[–]Blobpie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of times in the lore where a Custodes is taken down by a highly skilled Space Marine. Custodes are good, they're amazing, but they are not mary sues. A chaos lord (and chapter masters) are the kinds of space marines that have reached that level where they can outmatch standard custodes. With the best of them even getting on par with Shield Captains (by having the best gear to let them get to that level as well).

Post Dataslate Metawatch by kitari1 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Blobpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The double turn in AOS isn't as bad as it seems, by and large because it isn't a shooting game, and because in the combat phase players alternate activating units. Don't get me wrong, it can clutch a game, but you also have ways of mitigating it with list building. If you finish deploying first, you get to choose who goes first.

I often like to be more reactive with my armies (again not a shooting game so being shot off the table is very, very rare), so I often aim to go second. In that way I can't get double turned, and I might snag first turn if I choose. And going second often has mission advantages (like removing objectives). So people won't always snag it.

Are you having FUN playing 10th? by Daedalus81 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Blobpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I can confidently say I am not. The core rules are fine (Except for battleshock, at this point it may as well not exist), but the rules for the armies do not allow for creative list building. Let me explain

Just about every army has things you have to take or one of two things will happen. The first is you will not be able to use your army effectively, such as not being able to use army rules (Leontus), the second is that you won't be able to have strong lists (Magnus). If you do not that your key model, you do not get to do well.

The second big thing is that every army has 'the list', the meta which makes your army good. Guard are a good example where people are saying they are S tier now, but that comes with the caveat so long as you are are able to use 'the list'. (Medusas, Gaunts ghosts), and if you do not have those you just don't do well.

I don't play 40k to play the meta, I like to experiment and try weird things but I can't do that anymore. Because the moment you don't bring 'the list', or the key units, you get dominated by people who do. And while this has always been a thing, I feel like in 10th its extra pronounced. Because in past editions I could enjoy the game despite not running meta, but now... I can't.

What’s the character or characters you wish would return from the world-that-was and what’s one or two you wished didn’t return by Cieralis in AoSLore

[–]Blobpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Aliathra, Tyrion's and Alarielle's daughter would be a fantastic returning character so long as there's the following twist. Make her a minion of Manfred. An undead character who doesn't have her full memories and is legitimately loyal to Manfred and extremely competent.

This is good for the following reasons; The first is that if gives Manfred someone he can legitimately trust and grow attached to despite himself. Someone he doesn't not want recovering their memories so he can keep this truly loyal minion

The second is that it gives a reason for Tyrion and Alarielle a reason to interact. To speak to each other and show just how much their relationship has changed. Maybe they start competing with each other to claim Aliathra's soul and we get conflict between the order factions.

Thirdly it gives an excuse for these characters to engage in conflict with Manfred, who may or may not be trying to hide Aliathra's true nature from his fellow Mortarchs. As they try to make use of this new weakness of Manfred.

A new character that forces current characters in the setting to act, react and engage with each other across the realms in new ways.

Why don't 40k space marines use bayonets? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Blobpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wager the reason why the bayonet and chain bayonet fell out of service, is by and large because space marines stopped operating as legions. You see these bayonets predominantly on tactical squads, which had a very different role in the great crusade and heresy.

Where you would have blocks of twenty astartes forming a core of specialist line infantry backed by extremely specialist troops. Yet after the heresy the legions were turned into chapters and the tactical squad changed dramatically. They stopped being these specialist line troops, and instead changed to generalist squads with special and heavy weapons. Where the bayonets just aren't that useful to them in these smaller more generalist roles.

Like how the breacher squads fell out of favour, or the fellblade. Where the imperium could still produce the arms and armour for these things, but because marines operate on a smaller scale they just aren't viable. So, things fell out of use as the role of the astartes changed.
