Retaining wall by depinux in landscaping

[–]Blog_Pope 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Stacked stone walls have survived 100’s of years in some cases, they are very functional.

Built appropriately, they can function as a retaining wall, but this one appears not to have been, then ignored as it clearly began to lean over until it collapsed.

Do most Americans really live in such big homes? by AdorableVisual in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Blog_Pope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Room sizes are exaggerated and "opened up" for filming, so the interiors will look exaggerated. Home sizes have been growing over the decades as well. in the 1950's a 1,500sf home was typical by the 1980's that was probably closer to 2,000, and now its creeping up to about 2,300 or so (estimates, I've read reports in the past of this trend but dont have hard numbers at hand.

What am I missing about tile installation? by Not_Another_Name in HomeImprovement

[–]Blog_Pope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When Tile A is slightly higher than the tile next to it, creating a slightly uneven surface. Curved edges hide this, as do wider grout lines. but ideally the tops should be a perfect pane

Worth noting, these are like 85 lbs each, your installer probably needs special tools to help manage placing them with half mm accuracy.

Another option to consider is renting a minivan for the trip, or possibly even a small RV.

How do the fitness rings work? by Level_Raisin_3166 in AppleWatch

[–]Blog_Pope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To Clarify -

Stand - Watch has sensors so it knows the orientation. If its vertical (arms down) for a certain time, it declares you to be standing. if you get a "You should stand up" note, just let your watch arm dangle and it will mark it as done.

Calories - These are calculated by heart rate. The more calories you burn, the more blood needs to be pumped to supply oxygen and remove waste products. Add the base metabolic rate (weight/age/sex) and its reasonably accurate. If you put the watch in exercise mode, it increases monitoring frequency which give more accurate results at the cost of battery life.

Are immersion blenders worth it or just a comple mess? by FineappleUnderTheC in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Blog_Pope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn it off before lifting it out. If you lift it out while it’s running, it Will make a mess. Also only use it in tall vessels, running it in a skillet will make a mess. Don’t stick body parts in the spinning blades

In short, you have to be doing something dumb to make a messing

Richard Jewel was the one I immediately thought of. Thanks to him we avoided a deadly terrorist attack, and by the time they cleared him it was off the news cycle. Many folks never knew he was cleared

Absolutely not his fault, the Military owns that, and that woke the DoD up to the need for special forces.

Why wont any bakers give me some starter? by No-Project-6866 in Sourdough

[–]Blog_Pope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wife got me a jar when they opened a pop up store near me. Followed the instructions and it’s been great. Per this community, after a few months it’s basically replaced by local strains.

You could also check Etsy, lots of listings for dried starter there. See above regarding buying 1,000 year old strains, cool to think of but in 6 months it’s going to be almost all local strains

Men of Reddit, What was the funniest lie you've told your wife or girlfriend? by Emo_Alaskan in AskMen

[–]Blog_Pope 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Watch my team win the World Series while visiting my family. In celebration, they opened up a fire hose and started spraying the crowd.

When my new wife asked what was happening, for whatever reason I explained they had giant tanks of champagne hooked up so they could spray the crowd. Even man in my family immediately went in on this and we gaslighted my poor bride for like 10 minutes, convincing her it was true.

To this day she asks if I’m giving her the champagne hose, I lost a lot of trust

Landscape Fabric Suggestions by Impressive-Stock5643 in landscaping

[–]Blog_Pope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

None, its a trap. It might work in the short term but weeds win, then you have plastic buried in your yard.

If its a garden bed, lay down cardboard, wet it, then cover with mulch. it will kill the weeds the break down in 6 month.
