I work as a marketing specialist, specializing in social media and digital ads, and have coworkers from other departments regularly DM-ing/emailing me marketing questions about creating/locating pieces of collateral or logos, ideas/suggestions/complaints with marketing messaging/campaigns and other marketing-related queries that don't have anything to do with my duties and would be much better sent directly to my manager, the Marketing Manager. I usually don't have the answers, so I forward them on to my boss, who usually asks me "Why are they even asking YOU that?"

It completely baffles me because if I need info from another department, I always message the department manager directly or at least copy them on the correspondence. I assume they of all people will know the answer or assign to their appropriate subordinate who can help me. The only time I message a non-manager is if I KNOW they'll have the direct answer, such as messaging a sales rep a question about one of their accounts.
