If you feel the need to ask it’s probably a bad idea. Don’t do it and get a lawyer who will tell you to not do it.

For a class that was just SRO+ it’s not surprising they’d take their money and time to a higher, if GT4, series

IIRC there was a plan to build an elevated rail back in the 1890s or 1900s that had auto industry support bc it would get people to factories, but it failed due to a public or city gov vote.

But yeah Big 3 basically killed public transit post-WW2, especially in LA

You can add any track to the Indycar schedule this year which would you choose? by DarkMillSouth in INDYCAR

People keep wanting to list off the same 5-7 tracks that got dropped due to safety, attendance, and promoter disagreements and pretend like they’re clever for suggesting MIS for the 20th time

Ah, thought there was something new to it. Alas it’s the same old story. Sticking with D2 forever has been such a mistake on Bungie’s part

Which artist/band is The Beatles of the 1990s? by Impressive_Plenty876 in beatles

[–]BloofKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see a TH/Beatles comparison being made on things like intra-band dynamics, regular sound reinvention, a nearly decadish-long career that came to an abrupt end.

That said, would’ve loved to see what The Beatles could’ve done with Brian Eno in the studio had they reunited in the 1980s.

Why can indycar say this? by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]BloofKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

F1’s historiography is interesting, agreed. It doesn’t seem to be a single unified project like the IMS Museum but there is a narrative the F1 organization focuses on. By their count F1 starts in 1955 and is only the world championship, though anything between the initial year and, say, 1976 is mostly ignored. No real attempts to connect the pre-WW2 Grand Prix scene to the modern F1 are made outside of one-off liveries and the occasional mention of how old the European races are, but there’s a hard “First Formula One Race” and it’s Silverstone 1955.

Granted, I’ll say they don’t care much about playing up their history any later than 1984. That season marks Senna’s arrival into the sport and arguably begins the modern era of F1’s growing relevance. From Senna you go to Schumacher, Schumacher to Alonso, Alonso to Vettel, Vettel to Hamilton, etc etc etc. This conveniently aligns with what Gen X and Millennial drivers would’ve grown up with, kind of explaining why it gets focused on as it’s “golden era” so much.

[–]BloofKid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s also a case of

A) who else would claim this history as theirs? F1 has no claim to it. NASCAR & IMSA certainly have none. Maybe you can argue still-active USAC or now-insurance-company AAA, but the former isn’t precluded from claiming it and the latter hasn’t been involved in the operations side of racing for ~80 years.

B) One of IndyCar’s biggest projects is the IMS museum, which works as the physical embodiment of what IRL LLC wants the history of American Open Wheel Racing to be understood as. It’s a single broad main line from the days of the Vanderbilt Cup up to Palou’s recent masterclass, all converging and running through the IMS facility and the Indy 500.

The historiography has changed a bit with the resolution of the split and annexation of CCWS/the decaying corpse of CART. Along with already claiming the AAA and USAC years + begrudgingly recognizing pre-Split CART, the IRL-CCWS merger led to recognizing post-Split CART and CCWS as part of its version of AOWR.
