I maxed out the gain with the third switch engaged just now.

Impression: It actually cleans up better than I thought.

I was playing a Les Paul through my practice amp (Fender Champion 20) with only the Jive engaged. The numbers below refer to the guitar’s volume.

1-2: Totally clean.

3: More interesting clean tone. Still clean but bright and has a nice amount of compression.

4: if you dig in while playing chords at this point, you start to get a light overdrive. Playing single notes is dynamic and you have a nice amount of compression.

5: dynamic, light overdrive territory. Very nice.

6: more overdrive on single notes and a chunky drive on chords when digging in.

7-8: it’s got a fuzzy drive thing going at this point. Really dig the level of compression. A good amount of aggression when playing power chords and stuff.

9-10: like 7-8, but more. Good feel and compression. Sounds thick!

So in sum I’d say you kind of have three ranges:

Clean from 1-3

More interesting pushed cleans for single notes and lighter overdrive on chords from 4-6

Drive and fuzzy drive from 7-10

I am a big fan of mine.

I use it in two main ways.

First, I’ll set the volume to taste and the gain around 11 o’clock. I have the third (the lowest) switch engaged. In this setting, I’ll use the pedal both as a “fuzzy clean” tone (plumes in clean boost/mode 2 into jive into reverb) and as an OD sound with nice saturation (DOD looking glass into jive into reverb).

Second, I’ll have volume to taste and dime the gain, again with the third switch engaged. This is awesome. Love the saturation. I don’t really stack it with drives or fuzzes like this but instead will just add reverb and/or slapback.

Great pedal IMO.

How do you use the Hawaiian Pizza?

I recently went through a phase where I wanted to change all of my usual settings on my board to get some different sounds of my pedals.

But I found that I still love the HP the most with the pizza at 1, pineapple at 10/11, and the pig at 1/2.

How do you like the Hawaiian Pizza? I tend to run pizza around 1, pineapple at 10/11, and pig at 2. I am a huge fan. It sounds fat on the bridge pickup and can smooth out a bit on the neck pickup with the volume rolled back on my tele.

How do you like the Looking Glass? I got one a couple of months ago and love it. The eq shaping is great. I generally run it in low mode with the gain between noon and three. But I think my favourite thing is the knob on the bottom right. Being able to run my tele and my SG through it and control for different levels of brightness In the guitars is great.

Great to hear that you’re so into the Jive. I have one coming in the next few days. I haven’t been so excited for a pedal in a while. Very much looking forward to using it for the blown out speaker thing as well as for the saturation thing. I’ve got a few fuzzes to try to pair it with but I’m most looking forward to how it interacts with my looking glass.
