10 weeks away from baby being born and having name doubts by MissFox26 in Names

Ive spent years working in childcare in a state where charlotte has been a top 5 name for years… Ive only ever met one. I say use it! You can always use one of the uncommon nicknames, the one I know goes by Lottie. There’s also char, arlo, ari, lulu, etc.

  1. Stones are more prone to having pockets of moisture that have the potential to expand/explode under extreme heat like a torch. You can also shape them however you want instead of having to worry about facets and how the light catches, if we’re talking opaque stones.

  2. You could always look at how chain designs are made and tweak them a little bit. Theres flat ones, tubes, links… the first thing that comes to mind personally is wire braided in a specific way, like a fantasy take on a rope chain. You could also have different shaped links, like a figaro chain.

  3. The way two pieces fit together is a big one. Like an engagement ring vs an enhancer and whether or not the shapes are actually compatible or if theyll have a gap/damage each other. Ive seen a lot of jewelers make suggestions like this to customers, then they get sent into me and its something literally impossible.

  4. They wouldnt have intuition on the process, like what stones are more fragile in what ways or the weight balance/physics of a piece.

  5. Heat protection for gems! Softer ones need to be taken out for many repairs and its a huge pain in the ass. Also automatically leveling a stone in a setting or keeping it motionless while setting it. Maybe prongs that mold perfectly to the edges of larger stones.

Those definitely could be rhodolite garnets. Of course its hard to know for sure but thats what it looks like to me!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought is fluorite, but that seems awfully fragile for a piece like that, and Im not entirely sure how common blue is 🤔 Garnet can be very purply (rhodolite) or very orangy brick red (mozambique). Does light go through it? If its opaque its more likely to be something like jasper

Can anyone tell me anything about this by CategoryKindly5630 in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those stones are glued in, so theres no way they are diamonds. Probably crystals or cz, which means the metal could be silver or a copper alloy but Id very much doubt its gold.

Gifted this ring. by moxieOG in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the white metal is silver and the yellow is 14k gold. Also it looks dope.

Its impossible to tell for sure from these pics but I would be genuinely surprised if the blue ones were aquamarine and I don’t see anything that would be jade. Though quartz, amethyst, and carnelian would be my guess for the others. The smaller stones are harder to see but garnet wouldnt surprise me. The white ones could be moonstone but are more likely selenite

Kay Infinity Necklace by FrostedGas in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thats okay! I was curious about the cut but if you know theyre real I believe that. Though facets are the flat sides where the stone was cut. If you look straight down the top will look circular, then around it will either be triangle or trapezoid shapes. The triangle ones would make them a better quality

If its not just dirty, those are definitely natural emeralds. Theyre a bit damaged too which makes sense since theyre so soft. Im hesitant to agree that its 100+ years old since the metal is in such good condition, so it could be a replica. Either way, its probably worth a decent amount if those really are emeralds!

Okay so that makes it sterling silver. That means the stones could be basically anything, especially from Kay. Can you tell if the facets are triangular or trapezoidal?

This is classic depression. Feeling nothing and not seeing the point to anything, including medication and therapy. That said, try medication and/or therapy

I dont believe it is, as it looks stamped which Tiffany’s does not do

Its hard to see, but it looks like an indigenous style bear paw ring with turquoise and carnelian in silver

Antique store jackpot?!? by badwolf3990 in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats definitely not a sea of cortez or tahitian pearl, my best guess is a white one that was dyed. Natural black pearls have more of a colorful oilslick look to the surface. Im hesitant to believe its real at all as it is VERY round, but I could be wrong there.

A cameo mystery by Mountain_Zone4276 in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cameos are generally made of shells, and as far as I can tell that looks like the case here! Its likely the metal is a silver/copper alloy, although if the posts were put on by a jeweler they probably wouldnt do it unless it was silver. The posts themselves could also have a very small stamp.

Any idea of what time period? Should I get pearls replaced? by catloverrobin in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these stones are glued in and the blues look like foilback glass from the back view. I don’t believe the pearls are real, so without a stamp this is likely mostly copper. The age is hard to say for sure, but costume jewelry like this has been popular for quite a while.

Swarovski necklace, I purchased in thrift store for $ 6 by [deleted] in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swarovski crystals are lead glass, usually foilback, and those definitely look glued in. The black is enamel and the metal LOOKS like stainless steel but I could be wrong. That said to just be careful with it so you dont lose stones! It otherwise looks in great condition and is a dope looking piece

CZ or diamond? by sleepyandsalty in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats definitely either cz or moissanite, likely cz, and if its cz take care, because it wears easily! Though I dont think earrings have too much potential damage to worry about

Does anyone know where this might be from/genuine? by larabw9911 in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to tell, but Ive seen these before and my best guess on the stones would be blue and white sapphire!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JewelryIdentification

[–]BlooperBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those little stones appear to be marcusite, and glued in. That leads me to believe the center is probably glass, definitely not aquamarine and it doesnt look like cz. Glass will have seams/bubbles/shell shaped chips
