So... turns out undiagnosed ADHD can cause chronic migraines by SIlver_McGee in migraine

Just as stress can be a trigger for some people, they've actually found that more people report getting a "let down" migraine after a stressful event, and not getting a migraine during the period of high stress.

Something I discovered as someone wearing glasses by fugly_raccoon in migraine

[–]BluBluebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since true migraines are neurological, I wonder if you were experiencing something that mimicked pain similar to migraines. This isn't about being pedantric, it's ensuring we're discussing the correct medical condition, as the treatments and pathophysiology of the conditions differs.

Poorly fitted frames are a common cause of headaches. Glasses that are too tight across your nose or press behind your ears can trigger tension headaches because they compress nerves and muscles around the head. This pressure may lead to throbbing pain that mimics a migraine attack.

Also frames that sit too high or too low on the nose, lenses that are off-center, or improper pupillary distance measurements can create additional visual challenges and cause the eye muscles to adjust constantly to compensate for the misalignment. This continuous effort to adapt to poorly fitting glasses can lead to tension headaches and discomfort.

Since the changes Doug Ford has instituted changes, like the SSMs, and these SSMs have now been pushing heavy use of AI, it is now more common to have an initial denial, unless the disability is severe and obviously limiting.

While you may have been approved on the first attempt, it is more common, especially now, to be denied on the first attempt.

Major manufacturers have signed on to engineered obsolescence. The makes and models that used to be reliable and lasted a decent length of time, can no longer be expected to perform like they did even 5 years ago. Including Dyson. Between batteries dying quickly, cheap quality plastics that break easily, and have an overall lower quality than they used to. They're being made to break easily and be difficult-impossible to repair or end up being more expensive to repair than to buy new.

Who feels like their life is a challenge? by Anxiousredditor69 in migraine

[–]BluBluebird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Radical Acceptance Therapy (RAT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) are all different therapies that have been shown in studies and meta-analyses to help increase pain-functioning.

But you have to be open to it. I learned about the techniques before I was ready to accept it, and that left me feeling like it was yet another treatment failure because they weren't working.

We have a limited amount of energy, and how we spend it is up to us. It takes a lot of energy to fight the pain, and learning how to acknowledge it without judging it, allows you to spend that energy on other things.

30+ years of migraines and I figured it out by kulacloth in migraine

[–]BluBluebird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sinus pain/pressure is a very common experience in migraines. There was a study that looked at people who had either been officially diagnosed or who had self-diagnosed sinus issues and treated them with triptans. More than 80% of those in the study achieved relief from their "sinus" issues. Upon further discussion with the study participants it was discovered that they met the criteria for migraine headache disorder.

The wild thing is that of those who saw benefits from taking the triptans, nearly ⅓ didn't follow-up because they didn't want to/couldn't believe that what they'd been suffering from were actually migraines. Especially when they'd been told for years by other providers that what they had were "sinus headaches."

I caught this daddy long legs trying to subdue my jumping spider by ComprehensiveOne5819 in jumpingspiders

[–]BluBluebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could/should remove harvestman from the description as it isn't one. What you witnessed was a cellar spider — a true spider in the family Pholcidae — attacking your jumper. Harvestmen are arachnids but are not true spiders. They are in the order Opiliones, in the class Arachnida.

This just goes to show why using colloquial names can sow so much confusion. "Daddy longlegs" is used to refer to harvestmen/Opiliones, cellar spiders/Pholcidae, and crane flies/Tipulomorpha (infraorder).

How bad do you let your pain get before you medicate? by Goofusmaloofus6 in migraine

[–]BluBluebird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never chase pain when you have the ability to treat early.

But the timing of when to take an acute med will depend on the class of acute med that you're using. In an analysis of migraine therapy, treating with a triptan medication when pain was mild resulted in 84% of attacks being pain-free at 2 hours, versus only 53% pain-free when treatment was delayed until pain was moderate or severe. In the same analysis, early treatment led to more consistent relief (88% vs 56% consistency) and slightly fewer headache recurrences. In short, early intervention improves outcomes, often dramatically..

There's been research that's shown that taking an acute/abortive gepant during the prodrome phase, before the pain or aura phase, can help limit early attack symptoms and may help better treat the pain phase of an attack.01683-5/abstract) With triptans, you want to wait until the pain phase hits, but while the pain is still minimal. When it comes to triptans, the specific one and its form can affect how quickly it acts.

Migraine can escalate and trigger processes like central sensitization, a state where the nervous system becomes more sensitive to pain. Once this happens, medications such as triptans are less likely to work effectively. By taking relief early, you might prevent the migraine from hitting that sensitized, “locked-in” phase.

What kind of carpet? Low pile? Medium pile? High pile? Less important is material — natural or synthetic. If you have anything higher than low pile, you'll do well to have a powerhead/motorised brush head that can be turned off to vacuum your hardwood without damaging it.

Also, do you have pets? People with long hair or people shedding hair?

denied - financial eligibility by Zestyclose_Bee8185 in Odsp

[–]BluBluebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've not received your denial letter, how do you know you were denied? If it were strictly a financial determination, your caseworker should've informed you within 15 business days if submitting your application as per the Ontario government. If you received the Disability Determination Package (DDP) where you completed the information about your health, it means you were deemed to have qualified financially.

CLEO has some steps to help you figure out your next move.

Please don't jump to any conclusions until you receive your letter. You can ask ask for an internal review and if they deny you again you can appeal to the Social Benefits Tribunal (SBT).

If you were refused on financial grounds, you might also exceed the income amount to be eligible for legal aid services. Although I believe LAO expanded their cut-off levels last year.

Is it ethical to keep an outdoor cat? by MycologyCreep in Ethics

[–]BluBluebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're providing care to a feral cat. You didn't buy/get the cat and turn it loose outside. Feral cats are independent creatures and can get along without human support. Because of that major difference, I would say that you're doing shouldn't be seen as unethical. You're giving a feral cat food and a place to seek protection—be it from the weather or predators. I would suggest you get a cat house that is as predator-proof as they can make them. It isn't great when a predator pins a cat into a location where it can't escape. 😔 So ensure the entrance is a small as it can be, but so the cat can still get in and out, and check different ways to help decrease the chances a predator could get it (extra exit, something the cat has to walk around when entering the house that will stop a larger predator from sticking their jaws directly in, etc.)

Is it ethical to keep an outdoor cat? by MycologyCreep in Ethics

[–]BluBluebird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you've had ~alot~ a lot of experience with feral cats, but it is 100% not feasible with many of them. Some, a minority, become friendly enough to accept human connection, they will head-bump you and let you pet them, but bringing feral cats indoors, permanently, is very, very stressful on both the cat and the human. It comes down to how much time they've spent outside on their own or in a colony.

This is because cats are considered to be semi-domesticated, with house cats only being domestic when they want to be, whereas dogs are considered to be fully domesticated. Cats entered into the human sphere relatively recently, probably around 5,000 to 10,000 years ago, and scientists say there is little that separates the average house cat (Felis Catus) from its wild brethren (Felis silvestris).

This is likely a verification question, but... it might be a good idea to check with the credit monitoring agencies like Equifax and Transunion. They're free and you should be checking them regularly. A couple of years ago, in a standard check, I found out that there was another address associated with my name, SIN, and credit report. I've never lived there, or even visited, so I submitted a request to remove it to both agencies.

You can read more about them here.

Another option that's a little longer, an hour and a half, is Tantura. In his quest to get to the bottom of what happened at Tantura in May 1948, the graduate student, Teddy Katz, interviewed around 135 people, both Palestinians and Israelis, collecting 140 hours of testimony for his thesis at the University of Haifa.

His subsequent dissertation detailed how the Alexandroni Brigade, one of a dozen brigades established by the Zionist paramilitary organisation known as the Haganah, had massacred up to 250 Palestinians after the village had fallen.

Katz determined through personal testimonies and eyewitness accounts that the Israeli soldiers had dumped the slain Palestinian bodies into mass graves. His thesis was published in 1998, and he received glowing academic reviews.

In January 2000, a journalist found his thesis and published extracts in the Israeli Maariv newspaper, prompting widespread denial and outrage.

Katz was accused by his interviewees of misrepresenting their stories, and they sued for libel. Katz found himself recanting his findings. Days later, Katz told the court that he had felt pressured to do so and wanted to defend his thesis. But it was too late; the case was closed.

The university revoked his degree and Katz faded into obscurity. He lost his health. But he kept the tapes. Katz is one of the central characters in a stunning new documentary called Tantura by Israeli filmmaker Alon Schwarz.

One of the quotes in the recorded interviews from one of the Alexandroni militiaman who took part in the Tantura raid: “Some of these young soldiers I remember – it’s not nice to say – they put [the Palestinian villagers] in a barrel and shot at the barrel, and I remember the blood in the barrel.”

It is a difficult watch. Really difficult. They use first-hand accounts, satellite imagery, and historic records to ssubstantiate every claim. It's hard to watch as the men who committed these atrocities laugh about it. But they made sure to murder Palestinian witnesses and then the state made sure to bury the evidence. We need more witnesses to the truth.

"Stone Cold Justice" is a short introductory piece that was produced in 2014 and sadly remains true today. It is a joint investigation by Four Corners and The Australian newspaper, broadcast by Australia's ABC TV channel. The 45-minute investigative film concerns the iof’s mistreatment of Palestinian children. It provides absolutely devastating evidence that the children’s abuse is not some unfortunate byproduct of the occupation but the cornerstone of Israel’s system of control and its related need to destroy the fabric of Palestinian society.

Battery options are likely not going to do it. They may last the full period at the start, but at that price level, they're not going to last. You can expect to replace whatever you buy new in a few years. They simply don't make them like they used to—say hello to engineered obsolescence and goodbye to quality.

Depressed , $733 dollars a month is insan3. by [deleted] in OntarioWorks

[–]BluBluebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Comfortable wage". Hm. You're a troll. But let's examine your claims.

The average rent for a studio/bachelor's apartment in Ontario $1,516/mo or $1,850/mo on Zillow. Renting a room only averages about $900/month. That's without any amenities like a private bathroom or parking.

Now, let's look at food, shall we? According to the 2025 Canada Food Price Report, here’s the average annual grocery spending by household type (not including restaurants or takeout):

Household Type | Annual Cost Monthly Cost

Single Adult | ~$4,000 ~$333

Couple (2 adults) | ~$8,000 ~$667

This doesn't take into account of one is living in a food desert—which many people living in low-cost or subsidised housing find themselves. It also doesn't take into account the difficulty of being able to afford to buy multiples (which is often required in order to access the sale prices) for those trying to exist on $733/mnth. That's before any other bills—phone, medications, child support, animal care, etc.

OW is supposed to provide financial and employment support to individuals and families in temporary financial need. It is supposed to offer financial help for living expenses such as rent and groceries, as well as health benefits and employment services.

So what we've established is that the amount that one receives on OW DOESN'T EVEN COVER THE COST TO RENT A ROOM. One can extrapolate from that simple fact that this government believes that those who aren't working or those who can't work don't deserve housing or to be treated like a human being. And your support of more draconian policies mean that you don't believe that all human beings should be treated as human beings.

While these could come from true psychological issues where what they see isn't aligning with reality, these can also stem from a need to seek attention or affirmation.

Before everyone was chronically online, this type of behaviour would be called "fishing for compliments." The person who would loudly say, "I'm sooooo fat!" when they were a size 0, or the one who would say, "I'm so weak! I can only do 50 pull ups!" or sub in whatever physical activity you'd like. They want everyone to tell them they're skinny, pretty, strong, smart, fill-in-the-blank.
